welcome to my music page. this page contains both my commentaries and the links to my own collection of songs- by famous composers, popular groups, my friends and myself. it also contains scores to some of my songs. please observe intellectual copyright and do not make my songs appear as your work. other than that, enjoy yourself.
chopin was an excellent composer who composed mainly for the solo piano and sometimes with the accompaniment of the orchestra. his works are skewered towards the ends of the technical scale; either it is very easy, or it is very hard. no one sees any chopin works being tested in the ABRSM syllabus up to grade 7. but it is a highly popular choice for pianists taking high order examinations. although personally I prefer the scherzos and ballades as examples of chopin's genius, here i have put together a collection of chopin's finest etudes.
etude op. 10 no. 2 is an interesting etude in a minor working on chromatic scales with the third, fourth and fifth finger. it poses a large challenge as the last two fingers (4th and 5th) are weak and generally disadvantaged when playing chromatic scales. chopin addresses this problem very well; and kevin hadsell's interpretation is wonderful. etude op. 10 no. 4 is a classic etude in C# minor, addresses general problems about finger litheness. op. 10 no. 5 is black key, in Gb major. brilliant interpretation. quite difficult. op. 10 no. 9 is in f minor, addressing the problems of the left hand; the left hand spans over two octaves at some intervals in this song.
opus 25 is far harder than opus 10. op. 25 no. 4 is in a minor, and requires pianists to play chords lightly and off beat at a fast rate. opus 25 no. 6 is a ::highly interesting:: etude which kills pianists at first look. [w00t w00t] running thirds all over the place! and op. 25 no. 9 is the butterfly; quite nice.. op. 25 no. 11 is winter wind and it's a bit crazy.. op. 25 no. 12 is oceanic. another of my favourites, but i prefer op. 10 no. 1 as the arpeggio kind of etude.. they differ a bit.. heh. i prefer opus 10 no. 1 cuz the bass effect is more there, and the chord progression is so nice and clear... ::sigh::

Mahler- Symphony No. 1 in D Major (Titan)
1. Movt 1
2. Movt 2
3. Movt 3
4. Movt 4
I have currently encoded Symphony No. 1 and Symphony No. 2 into 64kbps MP3s. Playing time approximately 2'23'18" for 2 symphonies. I have Symphony No. 8 in WMA format (playing time about 85 minutes) and it's 1029 people playing simultaneously! Recommendations for all who listen to Mahler (by Mr. CB Tan)- Listen the symphonies in order, and move on when you fully understand the symphony. This is most beneficial. I shall upload Mahler once I have the time. Currently the mahler collection contains symphony no. 1 in d major (titan).
symphony no. 1 speaks of a titan.. if you fully understand the symphony (ie- understand why each note and each melody and each instrument was so critically chosen) you understand why it is called titan. the first movement is really nice.. relies on string harmonics. movement 2 is quite pompous and i like the main theme (a major). movement 3 is really familiar... ::wondering where the theme came from:: and movement 4.. culmination of it all.. wonderful. the theme which surfaces at the end in d major (2d4 1a4 1b4 1f#4 1g4 1f#8 1e8 1a2) (interpretation of theme: number in front- octave; number behind- length of note in terms of divisions of a semibreve- 2:minim 4:crotchet 8:quaver) anywayz enjoy it if you do download it.. hope they wont take it down coz im linking from another site haha
