July 4th, 2006:
When others were getting ready to wake up,
get started on cleaning their grills,
cleaning their pools; and enjoy their one day off,
we were loading up for the ride that would change
all of our lives.

We were to all meet at Big Daddy's Bar & Grill
at 9 am.  The group consisted of 12 bikes and 2 vehicles.
We left Florence and drove to Lexington, SC
to meet the rest of the group.
Though, we did have to make a stop on
the way to Lexington in Sumter to
fuel up and stretch our legs.

Our ride to Lexington was to escort the Vietnam Memorial Wall.
This was called "The Wall that heals."
It was the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall.

For those that went, the ride touched all of our hearts forever!
There were Vietnam vets, that were allowed to ride up front of
all of the other bikers.

The newspaper & the news reported that there was
only 400 bikes that arrived in Aiken, SC.
There was more like 2000 bikes that arrived.
The whole procession was over 8 miles long.
Here is the news clip that we got from Pee Dee ABATE
president, Tony Hensley via e-mail.
http://www.wistv.com/global/video/popup/pop_playerLaunch.asp?clipid1=858057

Here is a copy of the news that we got from Tony Hensley about the ride:

[OPEN] Re: [Biker Ezine] 2006-07-05
Pony Express/Helmet Debate Gets

Bad in P&C

The count was over a thousand. Per Aiken public safety, it stretched for over 8 miles. There were 300
that left for Columbia from the Aiken waffle
house alone.     They even had a helicopter overhead, so 400 hundred don't make sense. I heard that news report also. Two of
our newspapers have the count
somewhere between 1,100 and 1,200. The press was very positive, even our county
council chairman made the ride. He thanked us for our work in
Columbia. There were many stories surrounding the ride.
A guy came up to me
at the truck stop with tears in his eyes, thanking us for doing it and said
he never knew we could be like this. Picked up some new members and made one
hell of a statement to the people of South Carolina.
    The spin off from this
should also impact our role in the statehouse. Somebody please tell me if anyone has put 8 miles of motorcycles on a South Carolina freeway for 50
miles before going into town?
It scared the hell out of our local police. I
had told them there would be a thousand bikes but they must not have
believed me. As I understand it, when they finally knew it, they say the scanners were on fire looking for back up.
    Hats off to the Richland,
Lexington and Aiken county sheriffs. They not only gave us respect but bent over backwards to make this a safe ride. Here is the last one
of many
stories.
A trucker at the Flying J truck stop, on his way from Wisconsin,
came running up and ask if he dropped his trailer could he follow us. I said OK but you have to stay in back. He said thanks and did just that, following us all the way, 65 miles to the park in Aiken. People were so moved by his
gesture, they took up a collection for his fuel to get back to the Flying J.
Ahh yes, just another fourth of July. One last comment, I lost count of the Bronze Stars and Purple Hearts I saw on vests. I don't need to look for a hero, they were riding beside me. DEUCE

Some pictures from the rides:

July 4th, 2006:
We went on a ride with ABATE of SC to escort the
Vietnam Memorial Wall that was traveling to Aiken, SC.

We all met at Big Daddy's Bar & Grill on Palmetto Street on
July 4th, 2006 at 9 am.

We had to wait on some of the group to meet us
so we all sat around, socialized, and enjoyed ourselves.

Tony, the son of our vice-president "CJ" got in on
the act and picked on Ola Mae while
we waited for the rest of the gang to show up.

These are just some of the bikes that we saw when
we all arrived in Lexington, SC.  There were over 12,000 bikes there

These are just some of the bikes on their way to Aiken to escort the Vietnam Memorial Wall.  There were many more behind this group. The Vietnam Vets were the only ones that were allowed in front of the line.

Our own vice president of the club:
"CJ" {K-man}

{USMC Retired Sniper} was our only Vietnam Vet that rode up front from our group.

Even the bartenders got in on the act and rode.

Our vice president, CJ & his daughter,
Michelle were really disappointed
that the wall didn't get unveiled that day.

{Pictured here: CJ {Vice-president}; Nereyda {his wife} & his son, Tony}
Though, our vice president, CJ was the only one that had
his whole family along for the ride.

Here is another one of our members, Tony and he is Cj's son.
He served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and came home in October, safe & sound.

Cj's son took it upon himself to pour some cold water
on his dad to help cool him off.

Some of our club members rest under the shade of the tree in Lexington. How do you like our coat tree?

{Pictured left to tright: Bandit & Hippie}
We have dubbed these two as
"Double Trouble."
You never know what they are up to.

The crew decides to fill up on the way home.
It is a long ride home from Aiken.
