Last record bought ... trick question - the last record I bought was probably something by The Tindersticks. However the last CD I bought was either the Lon Gisland EP by Beirut or The Walkmen's "A Hundred Miles Off"..

What is the essence of SxSW?
Seeing music as it was intended, intimately. Seeing music as you would want, in countless settings , head spinning. Seeing music you long planned to see. Seeing the future of music you never planned to see. Seeing Music.

Best Show? In 2007, Beirut @ Emo's, or, The Walkmen @ Bourbon Rocks, or Malajube @ Brush Square Tent, or Ghostland Observatory @ La Zona Rosa, or Cold War Kids @ Maggie Mae's. In 2006 Toss up between The Go Team in the Mean Eyed Cat car park or Editors at Deisel Clothing's private party at Scholz's Hall, but Giant Drag at Emo's and Billy Bragg @ Austin City Limits Studio were good too.

What is the essence of SxSW?
Over 1000 (1400+ this year) bands from all over the world, most of which you have never heard of and also most of which are wonderful. The spectacular thing about SXSW is iscovering what the music is all about. It's not at all about radio, or the web, or CDs. It's about seeing music live, in intimate settings, with other music lovers. It's about the flash of amazement at hearing something new, something undiscovered (by you at least) and having that explosion of excitement that comes with that. And then it's about doing that over 40 times across about 5 days. Indescribable!

What are the ten bands you must see t his year?

Apostle of Hustle (the only one on this list I have seen before)
The Frames
Menomena
Antibalas
Forro in the Dark
Bloc Party
Special Guests

Best Venue?
Best venue - the open air. Due to the warm climate, many, many shows are outside. Day or night, being outside, preferably in a small venue, is the best.

Best Show?
Johnny Cash at Emo's, somewhere in the mid-1990's.
