Burger Chef Memories

above, One of the first four Burger Chef's.  This one is in Madison Indiana  - July 1957

These first stores were to spotlight the equipment in a working store, in trying to sell the equipment,

investors wanted to lease the whole concept, in 1958 the new restaurant design was created and franchising of Burger Chef began.

Super Shef Meal 1969

Super Shef Meal, The name "Shef" came from President Frank Thomas, when the Big Shef was intoduced in 1965.

Notice the older logo on the fry bag, new cup logo design.   This was one of the first sandwich additions from new owners General Foods Inc.

It has been said the people could not pronounce "Chef" when Big Shef was introduced, so it was spelled with an "S" by Frank...

This Super Shef came out in 1969 as the "Jumbo Shef", then changed names a year later... introduced as 1/4 lb beef patty, not sure if it beat McDonalds Quarter Pounder Sandwich or not?  Anyone know?

above, Same 'ole picture everyone's seen, but it's a classic - about 1966-67, location not known.

Notice "15c" on sign covered up... booths run across the front of this style Burger Chef (bc-08-16).

Concept photo of a mid 60's Burger Chef

Below is a artist rendering of how the new Burger Chef would look like, about 1967 or 68.

They keep the lava rock and white brick, but re-did the sign and orange roof to the yellow sign and red roof.

This design pictured never made it to reality, but became the COSMO II beginings.
