3rd leg of the UPF Triple Crown Series
When: June 6th and 7th, 2009 ---registration opens at 8am-- events starting around 11am (registration for the weight pull will be open until at least 2 pm.)
Where: Jasper County Fairgrounds/ Newton, Illinois
Details are still being worked out but we are planning a super-spectacular event this year... See bottom of this notice to get directions.
List of events:
***UPF/IDWP sanctioned weight pull ( Sat & Sun) 20$ /dog/ 15$ / dog if pre-registered ( Judges Becky Graham & Steve Holford) Ribbons and plaques given from the UPF and IDWP. In order to accomodate for travel time, the other events we are offering this year: the weight pull will start around 2:30pm on Saturday... 9-10am on Sunday.
**** FUN American Pit Bull Terrier conformation show (Sat only) 12$/ dog per class/ 10$ per dog per class if pre-registered (classes ranging from 4mths- 5 + years & Best Brindle, Best Blue and Best Rednose) . Medals and plaques will be awarded to winners. All purebred APBT's eligible to compete. Ed Winegarner is the judge scheduled to judge this event. Scheduled to start around 12 noon
General Public events: (Sat only) 12$ per dog per class / 10$ per dog per class if pre-registered.... Ugliest pup, Ugliest dog, Cutest pup, Cutest dog, Best Trained, Best Trick, Best Dressed, Prettiest dog, Medals and flea prevention coupons awarded for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place --starting around 11-12 noon
** GDT and DHT testing possibly available in evening, AFTER the general public events. ( Iron dog charges 20$ for these test. CGC testing will also be available.. call 618-793-2070 and talk to Shirley about setting up time for this test!
Hoping to have a lot of vendors and educational booths set up.. a very good chance there will be local media coverage froma couple of local newspapers.
** On site TENT camping allowed, fires in grills ok,---- 5$ a night/ free if pre-registered *** Showers on premises!
**** Concession stand on site ***** 2- 50/50 raffles on saturday One-time 2$ charge / per vehicle at gate

Percentage of proceeds are going to be split with an area Humane Society.
**Lodging ; We are offering tent camping at the pull site starting Friday evening. $5 per night. ( free w/ pre-registration) fires in grills ok, possible electric w/ extension cords.
There is only one motel in town; The River Park Motel located on St Highway 130 # 618-783-2327
We also have Sam Parr State Park They are located only a few miles north of town. Camping sites, RV hookups, restrooms, electric hook-ups, playground equipment. 618-783-2661
Greenup is 20 miles north of newton, they have a Budget Inn that allows pets 217-923-3176
HELPFUL DIRECTIONS TO SHOW SITE: Check your maps but this may be the shortest way to travel.
** From Northern Illinois… ( Chicago Area) .. Take I-57 south until you come to the I-57/I-70 split near Effingham.. You will want to take the exit to I-70 East towards Indianapolis. About 5 miles after getting on I-70 you will see an exit for Montrose, Il. Take the Montrose exit and go south thru Montrose towards Dieterich. About 8 miles you will come into Dieterich and a stop light. Turn LEFT onto route 33 going towards Newton. About 15 miles later you will come into Newton. After you pass the water tower you will go down a small hill and you need to turn RIGHT at the bottom of the hill ( Hutton Street) Go across tracks and the fairgrounds is on the left.
** From Southern Illinois like from Marion, Carbondale.. Etc) ..… take I-57 North until you get to the Salem exit. Take the Salem exit and go on route 50 East thru Salem, Flora and Clay City. About 15? Miles east of Clay City you will come near Olney.. After you pass the Walmart Distribution Center you will come to a 4-way stop ( junction Route 130 and Route 50) Turn LEFT on Route 130N going thru Olney.. About 20 miles North of Olney you will come to Newton. Stay on Route 130 until you come to the stop light.. Turn LEFT at the light onto Route 33 West. After you pass the high school you will go down a small hill -- turn LEFT at the bottom of the hill ( Hutton Street) Go across tracks and the fairgrounds is on the left.
**From Mid to Northern Indiana…. Take I- 70 West Thru Terre Haute, Marshall( IL) , casey.. After you go past Casey you will see signs for Greenup-- Take the Greenup exit.. Turn south on Route 130 South.. About 20 some miles south of Greenup you will come into Newton.. At the Second stop light go STRAIGHT -- onto Route 33 West. After you pass the high school you will go down a small hill -- turn LEFT at the bottom of the hill ( Hutton Street) Go across tracks and the fairgrounds is on the left.
***From southern Indiana.. You will need to get onto Route 50 west… go past Vincennes and into Il.. Passing Lawrenceville, Sumner and Bridgeport.. As you come into Olney you will come to a 4-way stop …( junction Route 130 and Route 50) Turn RIGHT on Route 130N going thru Olney.. About 20 miles North of Olney you will come to Newton. Stay on Route 130 until you come to the stop light.. Turn LEFT at the light onto Route 33 West. Directions from Interstate -70.. Take Montrose exit ( #105) Go SOUTH on Route 121 about 9 miles-- Turn LEFT on Route 33 ( east) Follow route 33 for approx. 10 miles.. after passing water tower and going down hill coming into Newton turn Right on Hutton st.. across tracks and fairgrounds is on the left...
