Micha Chappelle

Dark Angel

In the beginning, Micha was born to a respectable wet-nurse in Manchester, England. Her mother Georgiane was widowed in the first trimester of her pregnancy due to a work related accident.

Georgiane obtained employment with a very prestigious family in town, the Rosiettos. The head of a family was an heir of family fortune who had become an influential businessman with two young sons, Ezra and Jacques. Their mother had passed on in an accident the previous year. Life for Micha was an uneventful sort of thing.  The mother and daughter pair lived in a small house nestled in the back garden of the immense Rosietto Estate.

As Micha aged around the impressive education instilled in the Rosietto children, her aptitude for arithmetic and language arts was brought to the attention of Edmund Rosietto.  Fond of young Micha and a Sunday believer in opportunities for the less fortunate, he arranges for Micha to be schooled alongside the youngest son, Jacques. Receiving the best education alongside the Rosietto children, it was a reminder of exactly what she would have had without the Rosietto's kindness and love for her mother.

At seventeen instead of accepting elder Rosietto's offer of finding her a suitable husband, she entreated to be apprenticed to the family’s' Governess. The Governess was grateful for the help at her respectable age, happily instructing Micha on how to care for the families already in her employ. The next year was spent in abroad in
Germany, where Micha took in two families on her own. The pay was pittance of what she earned- the Governess instructed Micha on finances and the violin in exchange for Micha tutoring most of the children in their care. It was an enjoyable life, one where she took pride in accomplishing a difference in the children.

When Micha returned to
Cambridge and returned to the house on the grounds with her mother, she and Jacques pursued a romantic relationship for several years while Micha continued to work as a Governess. There was a fall engagement with a spring wedding planned- while the winter of 1905 vaulted Micha into the Danse.

Ezra Rosietto, the elder of the Rosietto sons, had been Embraced four years prior of Councilor Mariel Versailles. Unknown to Micha, he had planned on Embracing her the following year- although the wedding plans spurred him to Embrace her sooner than he planned.

Micha awoke to the Danse alone, secured within a haven of Ezra's. While he had left to bring back sustenance and danse for her very existence, Micha panicked at the new sensations and feelings within her and frenzied. Tearing into the Cambridge streets, the frenzying vampire seized the first passersby and drained her. Although Micha never knew for certain later, she reasons that she likely killed the young woman.

Fleeing the morning and the horrible sensation the approaching dawn was causing in her, Micha fled into a train station at the edge of town. Finding a collapsed section of tunnel, Micha would make this her temporary haven for the first few days of her Danse. When hunger drove her into the street, Micha accidentally interrupted the feeding of a Mekhet. Having been alerted that a newly Embraced kindred had been on a 'Mekhet Endurance test’; she was brought before the Prince for Presentation and reunited with Ezra. It was during this confusing first week of her Danse that Micha developed the Flaws of Dirt and Light Sleeper from the hustle and bustle of adjoining (functional) train tunnels.

Once the pair was reunited, Ezra moved them abroad to Prague. There the new sensations and strict tutelage distracted the young Mekhet for several weeks. As she mastered teachings under the Au Pair, Ezra personally instructed her in Botany and the language of flowers. One of her first tasks was maintaining vast clippings collections of her Sire, in the process she became enchanted by the subtle nuances one was able to convey.

In month of January 1905, Micha discovered that Ezra was a Cleaver- and that their mortal family had no idea that they were dead. An unexpected surge of disjointed emotions filled her. Ashamed and fearing that she was going mad, these echoes of love and loyalty were hid from all.  Feeling an intense need to see what had become of their family, she returned to the Rosietto Estate in
Cambridge.

For weeks she haunted the Estate-observing her fiancé and mother mourn the absence of Ezra and herself.  Ezra had provided no reasonings, apparently enjoying the torment it caused. It was not enjoyable for Micha. Shrouded in shadow in the Estate, she planned out a way for her Mortal family to have closure. In doing so, she inadvertently set up a way to be connected to these echoes of feelings forever.
Micha set in motion events that provided a body for burial presumed to be herself and a baby on the Rosietto doorstep. That was more complicated. In the end, Micha returned to Ezra and her tutelage in Prague.

The following twenty years found Micha under Ezra's tutelage.  An exacting taskmaster, the first few months were spent on his pet projects- cataloging the nuances of one Ladies jewel choice, monitoring the herd of Councilor Versailles and Micha’s personal favorite- transcribing Ezra’s accounts as a Notary. Pressing issues of his Cleaver nature caused Ezra to move the pair and his aging, inherited ghoul to Cambridge in the June of 1905.

Fearing discovery of her involvement with the Rosietto family line over her anger and brief loathing of her Sire, Micha strove to handle monitoring the family’s progress for Ezra.  The Rosiettos were watched in newspaper clippings, the wedding of Jacques ‘daughter’ dominated a small niche in Ezra’s personal study- and as always, the family was jealously guarded from any supernatural influences.  Ezra had a habit of corresponding with his ailing father and gentle younger brother in letters, claiming a variety of excuses for his long absence.

As time passed and Ezra became more enthralled with the political tide of Court and briefly lost interest in his Mortal Family’s day to day affairs, Micha became responsible for their ‘lost Family’.  It was the most loathed task.  While she recognized that she was morbidly fascinated by the life Jacques crafted for their ‘daughter’ and her young family, she felt detached and alien from any affection for the living Rosiettos.  At times, she felt nearly afraid to continue correspondence with her estranged fiancé – not for fear of discovery of her true identity, but for fear of discovering any remaining feelings for him. What had happened to her love of her family? Had the trials Ezra set her on hardened her heart, forever denying emotion?

Confronting her fears, the young Mekhet began to steal into the back garden at night and observe the family.  Her Mortal mother retired and took a place in the Rosietto family, welcomed by gentle Jacques and his ‘daughter’, Nora and her husband. With fascination, young Nora’s infants were observed with a nearly fanatic devotion.  Here was the emotion Micha craved- the plethora of uncertainty, doubt and self loathing that she soaked up as she observed the infants from afar. It was in the next generation that Micha recognized Ezra’s need to have something… survive that was of him. In a way, they belonged to her as well.

. This realization allowed her to scale back her involvement with the family, inventing a family of Ezra’s own in some rural part of Germany.  The wife was a woman of some political influence, causing a need for her presence to explain his absence. Carefully crafted histories were invented and fed in realistic bits between letters and (on her part) manipulated family photos. In later years, this would allow the Cleaver Ezra to continue to influence his Mortal family more directly.

That’s not a part of Micha’s desires, however. While she  is not ashamed to acknowledge her  ties to her Mortal family any longer, she fears that becoming too involved with them will cause harm to befall the family.  She has become a Monster. While she does not crave or willfully harm children and the innocent, she has  done things for the  'greater good' that she is not proud of. More importantly, she would not want it to befall their Mortal family.

Sometimes she hates Ezra for this Mortal tie. Other times she marvels at his wisdom and foresight.  Mostly, she is simply grateful the floodgates of these pale comparisons to real feelings have opened.

The young Mekhet was instructed in the social arena and in Ezra’s forte, finance.  What an abrupt shock to see Ezra subtlety playing the markets to favor his Mortal family- even doing business with them behind faceless corporate names. No slouch in her own rights, businesses of her own were established to run alongside her Sires.  Finances were in important part of Micha’s Danse. Embraced owning a chest of handmade clothes, she quickly established her own wealth.  It was a matter of personal pride that a wet-nurse’s daughter owned wealthy trinkets- trinkets, serving no purpose!- but to maintain the façade that she was meant to be First Estate as much as the blooded.

Her own curiosity over why Ezra chose her was never fully satisfied.  He often alluded that he planned to Embrace her at the height of her mental aptitude- personally. Micha half wished she would have been allowed to mature more.  She Dansed with the daughters of merchants and less savory types, tarts and barely raised above harlots from which she looked identical at first glance- all Embraced when they looked their best.

A bit of disdain grew from those who flitted with their physical favors, instead spending her small wealth on furthering her education.  Fact finding trips to personal libraries were a favorite past time, lending the need to assuage an Elders ego, impress a protégé – one who had access to his masters history, anyway.  From this Micha began journaling her own knowledge- events and consequences of before and after Ezra’s Oaths and Covenant delegation were needed.

She came from a respected line of Notaries, of course- from the glacial Councilor and her fastidious childe.  Her Sire’s oddities became more pronounced as her tutelage neared its end. An education of their line had been an important milestone for them, but seeing the affects in Ezra startled Micha.   Erratic behavior became the norm. For the Seneschal with whom he held favor, he could slyly insinuate who was hiding secrets and manipulate situations to embarrass some. As much good as she saw, she witnessed his dream walking and when he took leave of his senses to try and ‘attend Court’ at noon.

She had her own standing to think of and Ezra became obsessed with the dream.  A frigid set of meetings with her Grand- Sire ensured that Ezra would be protected from himself as she was released to her own Danse.

The first act as Kindred in her own right was moving to Prague and frequenting a Salon there.

She toured
Europe for the first few years, settling into one city to set up a herd and enjoy the political tide before moving on. In 1960, Micha arranged a voyage back to the America that she and her sire had visited once in 1929.

Consumed by the need to investigate her own studies and further her knowledge of the Kindred condition and the world in general, she pursued the Sight in Germany. The Christmas Markets in Bavaria gives a great boost to her understanding of the family Blood Gift.

In the spring of 1935, she lands on the shores of Greece.  Having arrived to plunge herself in its local lore and history, she quickly sought out a native to assist her endeavor.  There was only one Kine that fit her impossible profile.

The woman’s name was Kyriaki  Totolos. For nearly eight months Micha amuses herself by stalking the young woman, following after the woman’s own quest for learning.  It was quickly absorbed that this culture did not put proper respect on knowledge- and that young Kyriaki was fighting a losing battle.  Captivated by the young woman, Micha initiates a meeting of the minds and meets Kyriaki face to face.

Having been observing from afar to avoid being observed, the young woman is not what Micha expected. She’s far more.  Kyriaki’s gaze pierced Micha from the moment that they met.  Its… honest yearning for knowledge so mirrored her own. Playing a hunch, a difficult research project is given to Kyra.  When Kyra excels, the Notary considered Kyra’s future very seriously.

The two women get along very well, kindred beings one could say. It’s that bond of mutual obsession for knowledge, Micha assumes. She is worthy of the Blood of the Mekhet.

In 1937, Micha is granted the Right to Embrace Kyriaki and does so. As the two women navigate the tutelage in the standard Invictus way, they discover that they have a further bond- their mutual fascination with the Echoes of Emotion.

The tutelage sails along until a staggering feeling strikes Micha from Kyriaki- regret. Immediately consumed by the need to soothe her Childe, they investigate Kyriaki’s path until it leads her to the Ordul.  While it pains Micha to accept the decision, she continues to support and teach her childe.  It is not as though Manumission has been looming on the horizon.

Kyriaki still has quite a bit to learn from her sire- yet this is about being of their Bloodline, the Alucinor.  At this point, all of what Micha knows is what was taught to her by her Sire.  Long, lengthy lectures of swimming in dreams that were drilled into her head are tailored to suit Kyriaki. At this time, whispers of Ariadne Metaxas in Paris reach the two Alucinor in Greece through sporadic communication with Ezra’s co – sanguineous sister, Jacqui Belloc, who has taken residence in Paris.

Micha cautions against revealing their Blood to anyone as Ariadne has done, concerned that they would become tools of the Court or worse yet, be persecuted. Kyri’s acceptance of her Blood concludes her Tutelage and Micha officially releases her.

Having grown curious about her Sire and their Mortal Family’s well being in this decade, Micha invites Kyri to go abroad to Cambridge to meet her family. The two are received warmly by Micha’s Sire when they arrive at the Rosietto Estate in 1947.

From the lunacy – infused last few years of her tutelage, this was not what Micha had cautioned Kyri to expect of her Grand Sire. Over the course of their visit, they discover that ‘Aunt’ Jacqui had taken Ezra in hand years ago and embarrassed him brutally for letting the Dream make him an embarrassment of the line. As this comes out, the two learn of their family’s line in more depth- specifically of Councilor Mariel’s co – sanguineous brother Laird Hoyt who vanished in the seventeenth century. He is assumed to be lost to the Dream.

Notary Ezra imparts some wisdom that he has gathered of their Blood to Kyri and Micha for several weeks.   Jacqui returns from Paris around this time, her vast experience in the dream serving as an excellent resource for Alucinors.  While the visit is a fact finders dream, the four Alucinors soon discover that sleeping near one another does nothing to inspire rest.  Micha and Kyri take their leave of the Estate, better off for the visit. In 1960, the women decide to voyage to America together. Arriving in Boston, the two part ways to follow their own paths.

Landing during a rave at a pier, Micha took part in the festivities- and quickly learned that the Kine were experimenting with mind alternating drugs. The first few months Micha spent in Boston, learning to lose her accent yet not pick up any vulgar American habits.

Pressing on her contacts, Micha finagled current papers and attended college- a delight to pursue the knowledge that had been gleaned since her death.

Around 2005, Micha moved into
St. Louis looking for something new to learn and further herself.  Her friend Alexander McCairn was discovered to have also come to St.Louis and the two often share news and resources. Becoming friendly with Garreth Slade, the two 'peas in a pod' Mekhet Invictus teach each other a few things. One of the important things implored were fencing and swordplay.

In a few short months she was swept up in the Brood incursion, garnered more wits in the burning of the Hyatt, and witnessed the burning of Soulard. A first friend, Carson Harper, invites Micha into Soulard Mansion where she learns from his past and borrows several tomes on his recommendation, learning of Egyptian Kindred and some Kindred Lore. The friendship between Micha and Carson seems to anger the Acolyte Veruca Paine.

At this time, a new friend Alice Nightengale tells Micha that a powerful Kindred has become possessed. She plans to free her friend from the fiend within his body.  Micha’s coterie – sister Linda Winters, three younger vampires and Queen Cara MeCeoud join
Alice in her undertaking- an Exorcism. Alice gives Crone Daggers to Cara, Linda and Micha and instructs them to use it to impale an assigned body part. Alice takes the most difficult position for herself.  The other vampires stand ready at the chains that hold Morden down.  As the Exorcism begins, the entire ordeal becomes a living nightmare.  Shadow tendrils become impossible combatants, flinging vampires into walls and compressing their bodies. Twice, Micha feared that Linda had met Final Death.  The spirit defended itself with the Mastery of Nightmare, causing their own minds mind to turn against them.  Alice and Micha suffered from a powerful application, causing their hair to turn bone white from root to tip.

Through it all, the women manage to impale Morden and exorcise the demon from his body.  For the death of such an aged Spirit, each of the women receives a black mark upon their Aura.  This mark is similar to Dialaberie, but separate in that the death of Kindred is not within those Black veins.  Instead, a sensation of acute Dread attaches itself to Cara, Linda, Micha and Alice, making it near impossible to be in the same room as two of these women for other Kindred. As a thak you, Alice lets the woman keep the Crone Dagger from the Exorcism (which causes Aggravated damage).

Later that year, the Sheriff Exodus and Queen Cara vanish in suspicious circumstances and Micha is named Sheriff by the Prince Percieval
Kent.  In the following months, Micha would combat a few times, investigate some, danse the political tide and mince no words with then- Priscus, Veruca Paine.

A sort of feud wages between the two Shades, the Whip and the Priscus. Micha and Garreth Slade decide to have Garreth take the Pricus position of the Mekhet, hoping to have the Family thrive under stability and with an agreement with the Invictus.  As it would benefit the Invictus to be connected to the Mekhets spy system, Micha acts as Notary over two Oaths – Oath of the Bloody Hand and Oath of Blood Focus -  that cause her and Garreth’s Statusy to rise, making Garreth’s claim on the Priscus role legitimate. The feud comes to head when Veruca sires a childe, Phedre, without Permission and is arrested by Micha- prompting a fight between the two in Elysium.  After the arrest, Veruca is held prisoner in Micha’s jail cells while the Prince, Eden Ai, decides her sentence shall be to sleep for ten years.

In these years, Micha learned many skills- her sister Linda assists her gunplay and fledgling Alucinor abilities.  Micha occasionally sequesters herself off to 'study' and better herself, futhering her understanding of  the gifts of the Mekhet line of Auspex, Obfuscte and Celerity. Later, she managed to trade or intimidates some into teaching her their family gifts of Protean, Animalism and Resilience.

In 2007, the decision is made to awaken 'the criminal' Veruca before her sentence is passed. Micha takes offense to this and sees it as a miscarriage of justice. She happily chains the Mekhet up and applies 'behavior modification' when unkind words are spoken to the Prince, Eden Ai.

One positive aspect through the chaos Veruca’s behavior caused is that Micha found that her friendship with Garreth transcended normal friendship.  Garreth Slade and Micha formalize their close, eternal bond by forming a Cyclical Dynasty together. Slade dubs it House of Blue Convulvus- for the flower represents the quality that he and Micha both value.  Remembering the loyalty and friendship of her good friend Alexander, Micha and Garreth happily accept Alexander Mc Cairn into the House.  Due to Alexander’s different covenant, Micha creates an Oath to be sworn to protect one another’s Covenant secrets from House mates of a different Covenant.  While the House shares resources, knowledge and protection freely amongst its members, Covenant secrets are forbidden to even be discussed with a member of another Covenant.  After Hunters arrive in the city, the House notarizes it’s Dynastic Pact detailing all eventual outcomes.   The Hunters find Garreth, force him to kill his ghoul, and Torture him into Torpor.

The fights with hunters grow fierce and Garreth’s fate is unknown.  Micha turns to an unlikely ally- Justin Sane, Veruca’s Sire. He knows of a secret Discipline that allows him to use the blood from Garreth’s amputated hand (that had been used to seize Vercua’s Priscus position) to locate Garreth and the Hunters. Kindred across the city came together against the threat, including Justin Sane and Linda Winters.   The trio lead the Kindred against the Hunters, sparking a spectacular conflict that includes minefields, fire fights, and then the detonation of the factory where Garreth was being held. Justin Sane seized Garreth and ran to get him to safety, with Micha on his heels.  The two threw themselves down an access pipe into the river to escape the blast- and Linda Winters rescued them from its waters, having led the Calvary to them.

When Garreth is found, Micha becomes Successor of the House and his Priscus position of the Mekhet flows to her. His body is secured in safety until he awakens.  Due to the potency of his blood, is likely this will not be for at least a decade.

Various changes occur in
St. Louis that lend for a change. Nothing new can be learned in St. Louis. As the Dynastic Pact is shown to Eden Ai, Invictus Prince of St. Louis in lieu of a Tribunal, the two discuss the dangerous undercurrent the city is facing.  The Prince sees the House fo the Blue Convolvulus as a way of helping to further the tenants of the First Estate and becomes the fourth House member.

Micha arrives in
Toronto with Alexander McCairn, Eden Ai, and Garreth’s Torpored form. Later, they are joined by a Knight of some renown who is hoping to impress the House in order to gain membership into House of the Blue Convolvulus. A former associate of Garreth Slade, Octavian Godwin impresses the House with his martial aptitude and convictions of an Invictus Knight.  Alexander McCairn, Duchess Eden Ai and Sir Octavian Godwin are accepted into the House, sharing in the Houses' largesse under Micha's watchful eye as Successor. The Mekhet continues to remain very close to the sleeping Founder, speaking with him nightly. At times, she seems to have believed that she has conversed with him.

After the Invictus Meet where the ship was struck by a plane, the Micha & Octavian adjoin to the Estate to check on Garreth and Alexander's safety before meeting up with the majority and rejoining
Eden. The blast and fire blinds Micha, who pretends to be able to see to all who are not House and Luba, who realizes the truth during their talks. Micha refuses to divulge that she utilized a gift of the Blood taught to her by a Gangrel in St. Louis, although she worries some might wrongly suspect Alexander of teaching her forbidden Ordul knowledge.

In the Aftermath, Eden and Micha are appointed to positions of Primogen by the Steward, Cardinal Santana.  In the coming days, betrayal seems to be around every turn. With old Allies acting suspiciously out of character, the House was unprepared for the arrival of Hunters in this
new city.  The House counsels prudence, but their words fall on death ears. When the situation escalates to nearly breaching the Masquerade, the House gave the last of its experience fighting the Hunters and moved to another city.  This time, they settled on the banks of Rio.
