KART RACING 2006 Summary

The first season of kart racing is over for the year for us. We ended up doing very well. In the first races ever I finished dead last in four heat races and two features in two classes at Badger. I was ready to throw in the towel and sell the whole team. The second weekend I ending up winning a feature. Mostly to attrition of others. We started with eight karts in the morning and by the end of the day, there were three of us left but I did end up in the front. That gave me the confidence to keep going. In the next few races at Badger I was finishing middle of the pack and I was ok with that. Then we started the Road America Kart Club series and that put a damper on driving all the way to Badger. We didn’t have a ton of competitors in my class at RA but I never broke, never spun, never crashed, and never missed a heat, or feature. We ran fourteen heat races and seven features for the season and I ended up winning every one of them. We ended up winning the Yamaha SSX Heavy Championship!!!!!  I was very pleased with that. We also ran the Championship Enduro Series races at the Supernationals on the big track at Road America and Blackhawk Farms. We placed in the top ten Saturday and Sunday at RA. I was pleased with that because it was my first ever Enduro race. Running a kart at over 100 MPH on a 4-mile track is a real rush !!!!!!!! We finished in the middle of the field at Blackhawk due to a bad carb that I should have found but didn’t. We were rained out on Sunday after Darrel Kienburger and I found the problem Saturday night. That sucked because I think we could have won on Sunday or finished in top three for sure. Oh well, there is always next year. Near the end of the season my back was getting so bad I had to skip a couple races I really wanted to run. I had my back surgery scheduled four days after the final RAKC race and after that I was done for the year.

Thanks go out to everyone that helped me through the first season. Special thanks to Janet for being the best pit girl I the world and putting up with me all season. Thanks to Darrel and Sherrie’s Trails End for being my biggest sponsor and Darrel for pitting a few times. Thanks to GPI and all the MN boys, racing the CES races was a hoot with you guys. Thanks to Laker, TJ, and Steve, and Boyd for pitting and trying out kart racing for their first time. It’s fun racing with you guys, and hearing your comments after the day is done. LOL Thanks also to Jeff, Matt, Anne, and Courtney, and the rest of the RAKC club for giving us a great place to race. I attached a few pics of the season. Enjoy.

Road America Karting Club Weekend Series 2006 Champions

ELKHART LAKE
, Wis
– The fourth season of the Road America Karting Club has now drawn to a close following the season finale on September 30th.  After a great season of close racing, class champions were determined in seven classes.

One championship just wasn’t enough for Jeffrey Bartz and Collin Jackson, as both drivers grabbed an RAKC title to match their 2006 TERAKC crowns.  Bartz brought home the championship in the Animal Sports division while Jackson won every race on his way to the Animal Junior title.

RAKC newcomers dominated the top spots in both Yamaha classes.  Scott Kopp took victories in the final three races of the season to close out a hard fought battle for the Yamaha SSX Lite championship.  In contrast, Mike Balz dominated proceedings in the Yamaha SSX Heavy class, winning all seven events on his championship run.

Meanwhile, three past champions brought home more hardware in their respective classes.  Mike Mueller took his fourth consecutive RAKC championship in the HPV division on the strength of five mid season victories.  The RM-1 class saw last seasons Yamaha champion Alex Langer move up and take three wins and the class championship for his efforts.  Finally, Jeff Markwardt made it back-to-back championships in the G125 shifter class, taking victory each time out.

Special thanks to all the competitors and especially those who volunteered to help make this another successful season for Road America Karting Club.  An awards banquet for both RAKC and TERAKC will be held at Racer’s Hall in Plymouth on November 4th.  For more information please visit www.rakartclub.com

All in all, a very good weekend.  Top 10 Finish both Saturday and Sunday.  I am satisfied with that for the first Road Course Race.  Lost a motor by the end of Sunday but what the hell?  After 73 laps of driving on a 4 miles track for a total of 292 miles of driving, that's to be expected.  That's like driving the kart from Kiel to the Twin Cities !!!!!!!!!

In all the Motorsports I have competed in, this was the most fun I have ever had.

We will be at Blackhawk Farms the first Weekend in August to run that CES race for sure !!!!!!

Downloading Data after every session.
