Pesch's new version of the WARLOCK classic "All We Are" — featuring a backing band consisting of DESTRUCTION frontman Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer, AFTER FOREVER guitarist Bas Maas and well-known session drummer Tim Husung — was released on June 8. The 45-minute CD includes other rare material and bonus video footage and was issued on the AFM Records label.

SCORPIONS Guitarist Reportedly Injures Leg At Clermont Concert- Dec. 2, 2007
According to a posting on the SCORPIONS fan site Scorps News, the band's guitarist Rudolf Schenker hurt his leg/ankle during the third song, "Love 'em or Leave 'em", of the group's set Friday night (November 30) in Clermont, France. Schenker reportedly finished the show while standing at the back of the stage protecting his injured leg.
Low-quality fan-filmed video footage of the Clermont concert can be found at YouTube.
SCORPIONS' concert at Wacken Open Air in Wacken, Germany on August 3, 2006 will be released on DVD in Europe on December 7 via Sony BMG Music Entertainment GmbH. A North American release date has not yet been announced. Entitled "Live At Wacken Open Air 2006: A Night To Remember - A Journey Through Time",
the disc will include the German hard rock band's historic performance
at the festival during which they were joined by former bandmates Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker and Herman Rarebell.
"We are considering starting an album at the end of next year at this point," D'Antonio said. "We're not gonna stop touring on this record ('As Daylight Dies')
until at least the end of April, and I know we're probably going to do
a run of all the festivals in Europe in June and July. After that, I
believe then we're gonna start talking about writing a new record."
According to MTV.com, SLIPKNOT percussionist M. Shawn "Clown" Crahan will be teaming with Lincoln, Nebraska, bandDIRTFEDD for their new album, "The American Nightmare". The recording is set to be held at Omaha's ARC Studios, which is owned by indie-rock producer Mike Mogis.
"They are from the Midwest, which gives them a big advantage in how to
shape their own vision, rather than get caught up in clichéd scenes," Crahan said. "I personally cannot wait until we give this art to the world. It's time things change."
As previously reported, SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor will produce the upcoming, yet-untitled WALLS OF JERICHO
EP over a 14-day period next month at his home studio in Iowa. "I love
this band, and the fact that [they have] trust in me makes me
incredibly grateful. I'm so excited to do this," he said in a
statement." The EP will be included with WALLS OF JERICHO's upcoming DVD, "Live in South America", which comes out in March.
Cameron Atfield of MX
reports that rioting hardcore metal fans have led to the iconic Arena
Entertainment Complex in Brisbane, Australia being closed after they
caused extensive damage.
A police spokeswoman said sections of the 2,000-strong crowd, there to see Byron Bay band PARKWAY DRIVE on October 9, got out of hand and police reinforcements had to be called.
She
said about 30 patrons were evicted for aggressive behaviour and one was
arrested and charged with disorderly behavior and resisting eviction.
Brunswick St was blocked in both directions as the riot spilled outside, the spokeswoman said.
Management at the Arena refused to comment, but MX understands fire exits at the venue were so badly damaged an event scheduled for this weekend had to be moved to another venue.
MX also understands Arena management has decided to no longer host all-ages gigs.
Queensland Fire and Rescue safety assessment officer Keith Hansen said: "We have met on site with management and left them with issues to be rectified."
Concert promoter Anthony Palmer said his Festival of the Dead
extreme metal event, which was to be held at the Arena on Friday night
(October 19), had to be moved to Rosies in the city in the wake of the
riot.
PARKWAY DRIVE released its new album, "Horizons", on October 9. Produced by KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's Adam Dutkiewicz (UNDEROATH, AUTUMN TO ASHES, EVERY TIME I DIE) and recorded at Zing Studios in Boston, "Horizons"
"awakens the inner-beast with an enthralling avalanche of sound,"
according to a press release. "From grinding math riffs and palpitating
blast beats to haunting death growls, 'Horizons'' brutal mix of metal and hardcore excels with songs such as 'Carrion' and 'Breaking Point', which are enough to have anyone running for the circle pit." Ex-PANTERA Bassist REX BROWN: The World's A Far Less Beautiful Place Without DIMEBAG
- Oct. 8, 2007
Patrick Douglas of The Culture Shock recently conducted an interview with Rex Brown (DOWN, ex-PANTERA). A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
The Culture Shock: So, how good does it feel to be back on this ride with DOWN? You've got the touring you've already done and the upcoming record release.
Rex:
It's really cool. It's taken two years to get the thing back together
and kind of moving and getting everybody in the same head space. Shit a
lot of stuff's happened in the last few years. You've got Katrina and
we've lost a lot of loved ones. Trying to put all this together and
keep it a really concise and very focused … what am I trying to say?
You know when you listen to a record like "Back in Black"? It's
a fuckin' record. You wanna hear the whole thing. You don't wanna stop
at just one song. We consciously tried to do that with this one.
The Culture Shock: You can listen to the new album and realize that there's nothing out there that sounds like DOWN and there'll be nothing like it after. Basically you know when you're listening to it, that it's DOWN.
Rex:
Yeah. It's kind of funny 'cause people will ask me, "Who's influencing
you guys these days?" First of all, pretty much us. That's who's
influencing us. We just wanted to put a record together that's real
cohesive. A real positive message. Phil's singing his ass off.
It's the best he's sang in twenty fuckin' years. I mean, the cat can
sing and he can also bark like a dog. This record is what we've been
striving for as a band for a long time and now it's finally coming to
complete fruition to what this band needs to be.
The Culture Shock:
It's cool that you mention that you don't try and sound like anyone
else because you can tell. The great bands feed off each other and
don't have to rely on another band's sound.
Rex: Right.
And it's a process. I mean, the second record, we had some skeleton
tracks that we had laid down and the whole bit. I'd gone down and
jammed and we had some stuff. We kind of got in the mode of "let's go
down to the fuckin' barn." For the second record. Just rent a shitload
of fuckin' gear from Nashville, bring it down and just make a fuckin'
record together. Well we did that in like twenty-eight fuckin' days and
it was a hell of a ride. But, this is more focused and we really
wanted, like I said before, to be really cohesive and just killer.
The Culture Shock:
This band has become one of those bands that people get really excited
about when you have tour announcements or rumors of songwriting and
ultimately the album releases. I've already heard people talking about
it as being one of the most anticipated albums in metal this year in
rock and roll. Do you guys feel like you're sort of carrying a torch
right now?
Rex: I've carried the torch before and it's
cool to carry the torch but at the same time, at the end of the day,
it's more about the songs and about going out and playing live and
having the kids react to it. That's really what it's all about. As far
as … Phil went through the "I'm the king of metal' and all that
kind of shit and that was cool, but that was then and this is now.
We've all matured a whole lot and gone through a lot of shit and
basically tried to make the band now compared to five years ago is
completely different. Even though it's the five of us, it's just more.
It's hard to describe. It's more cohesive and just where we wanna be
right now and keep this thing going. This isn't a side band anymore.
This is the real deal and that's what it's gonna be.
The Culture Shock: How hard has it been to recover from Dimebag's passing? I know that's a difficult question to respond to.
Rex:
I miss the dude every day. The world's a far less beautiful place
without him. I remember the good times. I remember all the good times
that we had. At first, it was such a shock that I didn't really wanna
talk about it. And, I still really don't wanna delve real deep into it
because this interview is about the DOWN music …
The Culture Shock: Right.
Rex:
But I miss that dude terribly. Just a terrible waste of fucking … just
the idiot. Sometimes I get to the point where I get really, really
hateful. Just pissed off because of some asshole. Just some fuckin'
lunatic that really changed … I really don't think that the guy really
… I don't know. I really don't want to get into it, but I don't think
he knew how many lives he fucking changed by doing that. I think it's a
terrible waste of life and talent and breath and I miss, we all, Philip
and I, we talk about him all the time. That's our way of getting
through it. After he passed, we talked every day on the phone until
Katrina. We've come to closure with that part of it. The mourning and
stuff. There is a song called "Mourn" on the record and you should listen to it. That is about Dime.
The album is aptly titled "By The People, For The People" because it is entirely fan-generated. MUDVAYNEis creating history by offering their diehard fans the opportunity to
participate in creating the entire content of the album. Starting on
September 26, fans will be able to visit www.mudvayne.com and
www.myspace.com/mudvayne to help pick the track listing, submit
fan-generated album artwork, and participate in creating the video for
first single,"Dull Boy", which makes its radio debut in early
October. "We have some of the greatest fans and this album is a way for
us to give back to those that have supported us throughout the years,"
states vocalist Chad Gray of MUDVAYNE.
"By The People, For The People" affords MUDVAYNE
a chance to give back to their loyal fans that have stood by them
throughout their entire career, one that exploded in 2000 with the
release of the MTV2-award-winning video "Dig". This album spotlights the disruption of traditional media and the band’s desire to further connect with their fans.
Every MUDVAYNE studio album has received gold certification including MUDVAYNE's last release, 2005's "Lost And Found", which debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and generated the hit single, "Happy?" Singer Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett are on tour with HELLYEAH for the remainder of 2007. However, MUDVAYNE will return with a new studio album in 2008.
Kris Osborn of Time.com
reports: The summer concert season of 2007 swept America back into the
1980s as scores of hard rock/metal bands from that decade began touring
again, drawing large crowds, new, young fans, and solid revenues 25
years after first emerging. Who toured? TESLA, DOKKEN, GREAT WHITE, WINGER, WARRANT, QUEENSRŸCHE, POISON, RATT, VINCE NEIL, FIREHOUSE, QUIET RIOT, OZZY OSBOURNE, L.A. GUNS, WHITE LION, SKID ROW, and BLACK SABBATH.
"Despite the fact that it's two decades later, people still like to
bang their heads, raise their fists, and have some fun," says Jeff Albright, president of the Albright Entertainment Group
and publicist for numerous top-tier hard rock singers. "The
opportunities for revenue are probably greater than ever before," says Albright, referring to concert video DVDs and downloads via iTunes.
In some cases the crowds and revenues have rivaled those of the 1980s. RATT and POISON just wrapped up a long, large-venue summer tour where they played regularly before 8,000 to 10,000 fans. RATT lead singer Stephen Pearcy says he noticed an emerging younger fan base of teenagers and twenty-somethings who were born years after RATT multi-platinum "Out of the Cellar" album released in 1984. "It has been a gradual buildup again. It's rock and roll — colorful, dangerous, exciting," Pearcy said.
