Our first chickens were hatchery laying hens, purchased simply to provide us with eggs for our own consumption. What began as a practicality quickly became a full-blown hobby! As I researched everything I could find pertaining to our new feathered additions to the farm, I discovered the amazing amount of diversity within the different breeds and varieties of poultry... and also discovered that many of these breeds, and therefore much of that diversity, were becoming more and more rare and were threatened with being lost. I then became interested in breeding rare breeds of poultry with the goal of preserving those breeds and improving them according to each breed's unique "Standard of Perfection".
Currently I am working with Cuckoo and White Marans, Polish in Large Fowl White Crested Blacks and Bantam White Crested Blacks and Blues, and Ameraucanas in Blue and Black. In the future, as space and time allow, I hope to add more breeds and varieties to my pens.
Healthy and happy birds are a priority, and I free-range my chickens whenever possible. Hatching eggs are occasionally available; please see my Hatching Eggs page for availability and information. Please feel free to email me from the link below with any questions or comments.
