Breckland conceded the re-arranged fixture scheduled for Sunday 29th March at Taverham.

Broadland II gained 3 points and 3 goals.

Martin & Acock Norfolk Ladies Hockey League - Premier League

Pelicans II 1  Broadland 1

Broadland pressed Pelicans II in the open minutes but conceded an early goal when a right wing cross come shot was deflected into the path of a Pelicans player who made no mistake from close in.  As both sides battled to control the midfield and with both defences on top of their game, and a rising temperature to the game, there were few clear chances from either team, until Pelicans failed to clear in front of their keeper minutes before half time.  Broadland’s Helen Brockington lunged in to force the loose ball under the keeper and over the line for their equalizer.  In the second half with both teams looking for  points the game opened up but with both sides failing to make the most of their opportunities at penalty corners there were no meaningful strikes on target.

Division 2

Broadland II 0  Pelicans Colts 2

Broadland had the worst of starts conceding two goals in as many minutes within the first quarter of this division two fixture.  Emma Tilbrook swept round her marker to set up Kathryn Hainsworth who fired in Pelicans first goal and doubled their lead when she dinked the ball in for her second.  Try as they may Broadland could not break the visitors down and any chances they made were let down by nervousness and anxiety in front of goal.

Broadland 9 Reepham 0

Broadland raced into an unassailable lead within 10 minutes of the start of this local derby. Lydia Lawrence started the ball rolling with her first goal in 2009, 45 seconds after the push back when she calmly finish off a flowing move by the far post. On form Kelly Duthie picking the ball up in the midfield, skipped through and beat the visitor’s keeper with arguably the best goal of the game to double the score. Lydia Lawrence then grabbed a second goal before Reepham rallied and took the wind out of Broadland’s sails as they broke away themselves and went close on pulling a goal back. Kelly Duthie, however, restored Broadland’s grip on the game, lashing in a half chance, again by the far post, just before half time.

Any hopes of a Reepham second half revival were dashed within minutes, as again Lydia Lawrence popped up by the far post to complete her hat trick, flicking in a loose ball over the keeper’s extended body. Broadland's flying winger and star player Kerry Payne set up Tracey Buxton to score and then moments later Tracey Buxton hammered in a second at a penalty corner as Broadland’s strangle hold on the game tightened. Danni Pointer released from her defensive role then grabbed a goal before the hard working Helen Brockington using the advantage given, swept the ball in to complete the scoring. To their credit Reepham battled all the way, but had no answer to the faster, experienced and more determined Broadland side.

Harriers 1 Broadland II 1

Danni Parke scored for Broadland II at Harriers as the visitors challenge for promotion hit the buffers for the second week running.

Broadland 2 Sprowston 3

Sprowston the league leaders maintained their challenge for promation against a strong Broadland who pushed them all the way.  After a period of total Broadland pressure, when the home side could of gone ahead on more than one occasion, Sprowston broke away and went ahead with Kerry Hamilton being well placed to run on to a loose ball and finish by the post.  With all to play for in the second half it was Broadland who racked up the pressure as with minutes they were on level terms when the Sprowston keeper stopped Tracey Buxton's strike but the rebound fell to Kelly Duthie whose instinctive finish went in off the base of the post.  Sprowston responded well and were back in front as Amy Butler shot hit a defender's stick and was deflected up and over the line.  Again Broadland pushed forward and were back on level terms with in minutes as Kelly Duthie with lightening reflexes smashed the ball in for her second goal of the game.  With both sides looking for the winner and Broadland looking most likely to score it was Sprowston however, who took the points, as Maria Hood's effort at a penalty corner went through a host of legs and in for their third.  Broadland continued to press as Sprowston hung on, but in spite of their best efforts could not hit the target again.

Division 2

Sprowston II 3 Broadland II 3

Broadland took an early lead when Danni Parke broke through the Sprowston defence and although the keeper got a hand to her rising shot all the keeper could do was to take the pace off it so that in spite of the defences best efforts the ball just crept over the line. Sprowston responded well and equalised before the break and then score twice early in the second half to take what looked like a commanding grip on the game.  Broadland, however, had other ideas, as Danni Parke slammed in her second before lobbing the keeper in the final few seconds of the game to complete a hat-trick for the second week running.

Briston 0 Broadland 3

Brockington Braces Beats Briston

Broadland dominated the first half of this Premier League fixture but could not find a way through a stubborn Briston defence until Kelly Duthie turned a ball inside from Kari O’Brien to Helen Brockington who ghosted past a Briston defender, her reverse stick strike bouncing over the outstretched keeper and in for their opener. It was Duthie who put Broadland further ahead slipping the ball across the keepers body and into the net for their second. A poor clearance from Briston just before the break was picked up by Brockington who advanced into the circle, her well struck shot going in of the keepers arm for her second and Broadland’s third. With Broadland resting on their three goal cushion, Briston set about restoring parity but in spite of Gail Rudd’s best efforts Briston could not break down the Broadland rearguard.

Division 2

Evergreens II 0 Broadland II 7

Baker and Parke spark Broadland

With both teams suffering from an early start it took a long time for this game to spring to life. Nikki Baker fired in a brace of goals from the left wing just before the break to settled Broadland before centre -forward Danni Parke fired in three strikes in succession early in the second half to record her hat trick. Broadland’s star player and speedy right winger Abi Dennison pounced on a loose ball forcing it across the line for Broadland's sixth, before Carolyn Duthie lurking by the post snapped up a half chance to complete the rout just before the end.

Pelicans 3 0 Broadland II 1

Although Pelicans III battled bravely against a resurgent Broadland II they could do very little to dent the visitors well orchestrated defence conducted by Broadland's star player Catherine Bone.  Broadland's midfield dominated with Emma Grosvenor, in particular, chasing down every loose ball.  It was Grosvenor who scored, what turned out to be Broadland's winner, minutes after the restart, running onto and sweeping in a defence splitting Emma Gibb cross from the right.

Broadland 7 (or was it 5)  Beccles 1

The known facts are that Lindsay Hyde scored four goals and Helen Brockington at least one.  Beccles scored a goal which could have been before half time or even after. A witness thought it was 5 = 1 at half time while one of the players was convinced that it was 6 - 1 and both sides kind of drew 1 - 1 in the second half.  In view of the different statements a dubious goals committee will convene on Tuesday evening in the club bar to review the evidence.  The decision will by simple majority.

Broadland 3 Watton II 0

Watton II struggled to contain a lively and forceful Broadland who dominated much of this Premier League fixture. Broadland's star player and penalty corner specialist Carre Mills held of two strong challanges to fire in an unstoppable shot for their opening goal.  Kerry Payne put the home side further ahead ghosting in and snapping up a half chance by the far post.  Ruth Aldous deflected the ball round the post to deny Watton their only clear sight of goal.  Likewise Watton's Gail Dyer prevented a certain goal but even she could do little to prevent Broadland's third goal when Carre Mills fired in one of her penalty corner specials.  Emily Francis on her debut for Watton II had a noteable game.

Division 2

Broadland II 6 Old Buckenham II 1

Star player Emma Gibb dominated the midfield and score a hat trick as Old Buckenham crumbled against a resurgent Broadland II.  Nicky Baker also claimed a hat trick with three powerful strikes as the home side bombarded the visitors goal.  Ellie Shaw scored a consolation goal for Old Buckenham near the end.

Broadland 3 Norwich Dragons III 0

Norwich Dragons’ Hazel Medlar worked hard to prevent her side from being overwhelmed by an enthusiastic and determined Broadland. Kelly Duthie put the home side in front sweeping in Carre Mills powerful penalty corner strike by the post. It was Carre Mills who doubled Broadland’s lead collecting a rebound from the keeper, her strike being deflected off a defender’s stick and into the roof of the net. In spite of constant pressure Broadland could not break down the visitors stubborn rearguard until sylph-like Broadland’s Kerry Payne latched on to a loose ball and drove it through a sea of legs and passed the unsighted keeper to tie up the game for Broadland.

Broadland 0 Loddon 3

Loddon consolidated their lead at the top of the Premier League against a spirited and stubborn Broadland, who could have quite easily have been a few goals to the good themselves, had they taken some of the many opportunities they created in the first half. Loddon by contrast rode their luck and maximised their chances as Elizabeth Skinner deflected a cross come shot to put them ahead and then as Katie Konieczny chased a loose ball down it bobbled over defenders sticks and in for their second. Skinner added a third just before the break lashing in an unstoppable shot from a narrowing angle. Broadland prompted by captain Rachel Aldous, their star player, again dominated most of the second half but still could not find a way through to the Loddon goal.

Division 2

Diss 2 Broadland II 1

Broadland quickly fell behind to a uncompromising Diss side who held the advantage through two penalty corner goals and might have had the game sown up by half time, had not Broadland’s sweeper Jackie Glenn been on top of her game. As it was Nikki Baker pulled a goal back just before the break to give the away side some hope. Neither side, however, created enough opportunities in the second half, to find the net again.

Norwich City II 4 Broadland 4

Buxton brace boosts Broadland

Star player Tracey Buxton put Broadland ahead within minutes of the start of this local derby, picking up a rebound of the keeper’s pads and hammering a vicious shot passed the static home defence. City replied in similar style as Ann Worrall broke through and rifled the ball into the Broadland net and then took a first half lead as the same player flashed in a narrow angled cross which was deflected in by a Broadland defender.

Carre Mills fired in the perfect penalty corner to put Broadland back into the hunt after the break and then took the lead themselves when Kelly Duthie slotted the ball in by the post from astute Carre Mills pass. City rallied and equalised as their outstanding forward Worrall completed her hat trick. As the frosty playing conditions deteriorated Broadland continued to press forward and were reward with another Tracey Buxton goal as she turned the defender and fired in. With both teams starting to loose their foothold in the freezing conditions, City were awarded a penalty corner and equalised through Emily Anthony with what turned out to be the last hit of the game.

Harleston Magpies III 2 Broadland 2

In a keenly contested match with the game scoreless at half time both teams had all to play for. Broadland took the lead minutes after the restart when Julia Mills stormed down the middle of the pitch and all though she lost possession at the edge of the circle, the ball fell kindly for Tracey Buxton who slipped the ball under the Harleston keeper. Within minutes Harleston drew level when they were awarded their first short corner of the game. Although the first shot was well defended, the rebound fell to a Harleston player whose shot was deflected downwards by Jas Bartlett, who had crept in by the far post, the bounce of the ball clearing the defender’s stick and goalkeeper’s outstretched leg. Harleston turned up the pressure and went ahead when Lauren Barber’s well struck ball went in through Helen Hanley the Broadland keeper’s legs. Broadland, defending in depth broke away and as Tracey Buxton harried a Harleston defender on the goal line Carre Mills snapped up the chance to squeeze the loose ball in for a well deserved equalizer.

Harleston Magpies IV 5 Broadland II 0

Harleston Magpies IV were too fit and too fast for a well below par Broadland. Harleston took an early lead when a rising shot at goal was deflected into the roof of the net by Becky Ross, the Broadland captain. From then on Broadland were chasing shadows and although they rallied in the second half they never looked like scoring.
