BACKGROUND: Britney Jean Spears was born in McComb, Mississippi, and raised Southern Baptist in Kentwood, Louisiana. Her parents are James Parnell Spears, a building contractor, and Lynne Irene Bridges (born 1956), a former grade school teacher. Spears' brother, Bryan (born 1977), is one of her managers, and her sister, Jamie-Lynn (born 1991), is an actress and singer.
Spears first came to fame as a member of the Mickey Mouse Club in the early 1990s, after which she took a five-year break from entertainment. She subsequently emerged at the forefront of the pop music scene in early 1999, thanks to her debut album, ...Baby One More Time. She has released five more albums in addition to this; "...Oops I Did It Again", "Britney", "In the Zone", "Greatest Hits: My Prerogative", and "B in the Mix" a remix album.
In addition to her albums and hit singles, Britney has tried acting briefly. In 2002, Britney starred in the film "Crossroads" as Lucy Ann Wagner. The film has received mixed reviews. In addition, Britney made a cameo in 2000's "Austin Powers Goldmember" and also in the 2000 film "Longshot" as a flight attendant.
In 2004, Britney married a dancer/aspiring rap artist named Kevin Federline, with whom she has since given birth to two sons; Sean Preston in 2005 and Jayden James in 2006. Spears filed for divorce from Federline in 2006. It is said that Britney notifed Kevin via text message on a cell phone.
Towards the end of 2006, Britney was making headlines due to her recent "wild partying behavior" along with her friends Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. Britney received public & media criticism for several photos taken in which she was not wearing underwear underneath her nighttime party clothes. Britney is said to be returning to form in 2007 with the release of a new solo album with help from the production team, The Neptunes.
