Bristol County Rabbit Rescue
"Saving lives, One bunny at a time"
Some of the bunnies enjoy some playtime in the "bunny run"
Our Beginings:
Originally named BackYard Bunny Rabbit Rescue,Bristol County Rabbit Rescue was founded in 1999. It all started with a rabbit named Playdoe. Playdoe was brought to me, by a freind who had found her in their backyard. I just had to take in this extremley dehydrated and malnourished Himalayan bunny. After about three weeks of being in my care, Playdoe gave birth to four kits (baby rabbits). It was a surprise to all, after being neglected and let loose to fend for herself, she became a mother. Playdoe was a great mother and all her babies were adopted, her babies were my first "official adoptions" .Playdoe then lived put her life within my care. It has since been my personal mission to offer a safe haven for rabbits like Playdoe. What started off as a teenager hopeing to save a few animals, has now evolved into a network of foster homes and countless dedicated volunteers. Not all rabbits involved in the program have suffered such circumstances as Playdoe had; most are plcaed into our care when their owners can no longer provide for them. To date (May 1,2007) Bristol County Rabbbit Rescue has taken in, cared for, and found loving homes for over 2,000 rabbits (and small animals).

Our Views:
Bristol County Rabbit Rescue is a no-kill, non-profit rescue for pet rabbits. The prgram consists of a network of dedicated individuals who provide temporary housing (foster care) for rabbits in need. Pet overpopulation is a growing problem in the United States. Even though we cannot simply "fix" this problem overnight, we can eliminate some of the cause. This is why we support and advocate the altering (spay/neuter) of companion animals. Bristol County Rabbit Rescue is not a breeding facility.None of the rabbits within the program are used for that purpose, nor do we support irresponsible breeding practices. Here, at Bristol County Rabbit Rescue, we view each rqabbit as an individual. Each with his or her own unique personality and needs. Each and every rabbit receives individual attention and is socialized to become a "good citizen" while in our care. We preform a temperment evaluation on all rabbits before they are places as being "available for adoption" We adopt rabbits to indoor homes only. It is our firm beleif that rabbits should be housed indoors along with other members of the family. Rabbits housed indoors live longer, happier, healthier lives.
Adoption:
Prospectives' interested in adopting a pet rabbit are welcome to make an appointment to meet available bunnies. An adoption application must be completed. Please contact an adoption counselor for more informnation. Rabbits are placed in indoor homes only. All rabbits are socialized and temperment tested before being placed as "available for adoption". All rabbits receive a medical evaluation as well as needed veterinary care and spay/neuter if already the appropriate age. Adoption fees are $40.00 for adult rabbits and $20.00 for rabbits aged 8-20 weeks ( this fee may fluctuate based upon many factors) The required adoption fee helps fund a smalll portion of the program's activities.

Surrender:
We do allow members of the general public to surrender their currnet pet rabbits to the program, should they no longer be able to provide care. We do not have a required surrender fee for individuals who provide a cage for their surrendered rabbit to reside in. If you are unable to provide a cage, a surrender fee of $10 may apply. If you need to rehome your current pet rabbit please contact an adoption counselor for more information.

Donations:
Adoption fees dop not provide the financial means to pay for the entire program's needs, therefore we are open to donations. We graciously accept dontations of pet rabbit supplies. All donations are greatly appreciated by the bunnies as well as the volunteers. Please donate if you can.

Services:
We provide additional services to the general public. These services help fund the program,as well as raise awareness of our work and mission.
services include:
Boarding- we can board your bunny in a rabbit savvy volunteers' home while you are on vacation, or if you just need a day to yourself.
