A Tribute to Caddy
Caddy, a female, English spot bunny, was surrendered to Bristol County Rabbit Rescue in January of 2006. At that time she was 7 years old. Her temporary care taker noticed something wrong right away, Caddy was not eating regularly and had thick urine. The vet determined Caddy had a stomach ulcer, she was put on medication and started doing great! Unfortunatly, the stomach ulcers were reoccuring, therefore Caddy could not be adopted out. Caddy didn't mind living with her Foster Mom, Shellie. She would lay in a "sunspot" on the kitchen floor as Shellie prepared dinner then run to her plate of salad when served. Caddy was treated as a part of the family, even occasionaly sleeping in bed with her Foster mother and their cat,Ottis. Everything was going really well.
Then the thick urine and odd eating habits came back, this time accompanied by a dramatic (and very quick) weight loss.
In March of 2006 it was determined that Caddy had liver cancer. She underwent months of treatment without giving up. Caddy was a true fighter, she wanted to survive, to spend one more night with her family, To take one more trip to Vickie's house to play with her bunny freind, Jack.
Sadly Caddy ended her fight on April 27th 2007, just a little over a year after her diagnosis. Caddy fought and survived cancer for 422 days.
It is in her memory that this article is written, as the thought of her sprawled out on the sofa with Ottis still makes me smile, and the thought of loosing her still makes me cry. ~ Shellie, Foster Care provider
