Better Buses for All

Fighting for Bus Passengers in West Yorkshire

So, 4 months down the line, has our campaign worked? Personally I must say that I have seen a LOT of new passengers, especially families and weekend passengers visiting Wakefield City Centre, Cineworld and Charlesworth Retail Park, and regularly we've been getting 25+ passengers on early, mid- and late afternoon journeys ex-Wakefield, including a huge shift from (in the old, pre-April, 435 days) Wakefield/Calder Grove only passengers (e.g. short distance) to mid- to long distance passengers, with many journeys not stopping at all between Wakefield and Clayton West, and most passengers travelling through to Clayton West, Denby Dale, Skelmanthorpe, Shepley and around 6 per journey all the way - 17-ish miles - to Holmfirth.

But what do you think?

Welcome to Better Buses for All!

Denby Dale - Stagecoach sells to Arriva!?

http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/business-news/2008/03/07/bus-firm-s-plan-to-sell-sparks-anger-86081-20571383/

Well, it looks like we now know why Arriva are suddenly more interested in keeping services in the Denby Dale Area (such as the new 435/436 services) "up to scratch" again after a seemingly very drastic loss of passengers after the loss of the 935...

Let's hope that there will be ticket transfer between the Arriva "The Huddersfield Bus Company" Huddersfield (Ex-Stagecoach) services and the new/old 435/436 service, Wakefield-Holmfirth in under an hour..

NEWSFLASH: Preview of the new (April) Timetables!

We now have a preview PDF of the new 435/436 timetables available here

All journeys will take around 55 minutes aside from peak time and school journeys - this includes Sundays, too! There will be some further alterations, mainly to include Clayton West (we hope this will go to The Green rather than through Chapel Hill, as we feel that services should be run along Wakefield Road in particular in Scissett, which has many housing estates and amenities along that road) on a few journeys

More:

Bus companies are commercial operations interested in the "bottom line" - without the passengers though they don't have a bottom line, without passengers they have no business.  They need us not the otherway round.

We want to be proactive in convincing bus companies that service delivery is important to the passengers and will be reflected in passenger numbers going up & by default turnover & profit,  Giving passenger what they want not what is perceived as wanted will guarentee use and income, forcing passengers to fit a model or pre-set plan that does not deliver the requirements of passengers will result in the opposite.

Bus companies seem to think longer more frequent services are more cost effective that less regular direct route, think about it guys.......  you argue a route is not sustainable becuaue of passenger numbers then extend these service (on the pretence that the passenger capture will be better) and throw more buses at the route.....................Think about it.........

More Miles = More Diesel

More Buses = More Staffing

Buses full every hour are surely more cost effective than buses every half hour empty!

LOL - YourNextBus goes 435-mad!

Found this on my phone this morning when "pinging" the W2 stop at Wakefield Centre - Help, an army of 435 buses!!!

Updates:

21/11/2007: April 2008 Target for Changes

It now looks like any changes to the Denby Dale Corridor services will take in April 2008 - we now have not only Neil Holt from Metro and Paul Adcock from Arriva, but also several councillors from South Kirklees and Denby Dale involved in trying to find a solution. We will at some point meet up face to face to discuss proposals to put to Metro - suggestions and ideas are more than welcome, and details of further meetings will be advertised on the forum and on this page to allow others to have a say as well!

1/11/2007: More Direct Services a Possibility

Metro may help push for an expansion of the X41 service after much lobbying from passengers - read more & let us know your views here
