***All the Wrong Spies***

A comedy film that Brigitte made in the 80s – "All the Wrong Spies" also co-starred George Lam, Teddy Kwan Robin, Chun Pui, and Tsui Hark (the famous director of the "Swordsman" trilogy).

During the pre-WW2 year of 1938, the Jewish scientist who had the formula of the atomic bomb wanted to pass it on to the Americans. The contact was to be made in Hong Kong, but the news got leaked to the Nazi German and the Japanese, who both wanted to get their hands on the formula.

George Lam is a member of a Hong Kong spy organization. He is assigned the task of helping the Jewish scientist to deliver the formula to the Americans. Joining the fun is his chief police inspector friend (Teddy Kwan Robin), who helped him out with the mission. During their courses of work, George also coincidentally met up with Brigitte. Brigitte is his lover who abandoned him three years ago. Further heartbroken after reuniting with Brigitte, George found out Brigitte is now the fiancee of the HK police commissioner (Paul Chun). He misunderstood Brigitte for a change of heart, but unbeknownst to him, Brigitte is actually also a spy of the same organization. When she discovered that Paul works for the evil Japanese’s emissary (Tsui Hark), she went undercover in order to steal the atomic bomb formula from him. Being his fiancee (and supposedly leaving George three years ago) are all just required segments to her overall spy assignments.

After a whole deal of chaotic spy waves, disguising and chasing, and a finale which took place in a castle with numerous trap doors that required "vocal passwords" to open, George, Brigitte and Teddy managed to snatch back the formula to deliver to the Americans. George and Brigitte did not get together afterward though, because being the patriotic woman that she is, Brigitte went on with another patriotic mission. Oh well, at least George still had Teddy with him in the end there. =0

"All the Wrong Spies" can be quite funny at times as it is absolutely pact with jokes, parodies, and wordplays (check this out: the main secret password among the members of the spy organization is "I am a woman" – now you can see where all the gender confusion and zaniness came from ^-^). Brigitte went through many changes of outfits and hairstyles in here, with my favorite one being the black tight outfit she wore when breaking into the castle to save George. Brigitte had her hair tied up in a ponytail in this part - she looked totally awesome. =)

Shining in her role as the crafty double agent, Brigitte's performance was very entertaining. Having seen her in so many Taiwanese weepies lately, I never thought she can fare so well in comedies like this. By the way, her weapon choice in here was a whip. No, she didn’t slice any man in half with her whip like she did in "The Bride With White Hair" – Brigitte only used it to lash all the bad dudes in the finale. Which is always fun to watch. ^^ Don’t miss her dancing scene as well – that scene is going to plaster a big smile on your face for sure.
