***Love Under a Rosy Sky***

"Love Under a Rosy Sky" is by far my all-time most favorite work of Brigitte from the 70s decade. The plot itself is actually just another love story, similar to many of her other 70s films. It is probably the idea of this love story being so pure since it sprouted all the way from childhood that had me engaged most. Needless to say, Brigitte’s acting is #1 in here, and she is just oh-so very lovely and beautiful. I especially adore her image in the first part of the movie as a highschool student. She is simply dripping with innocence and honey sweetness – no wonder Chin Han's character was willing to go through it all just to be with her! Chin, who shared such an amazing amount of chemistry with Brigitte in here, also turned in a solid performance as Brigitte's lover. It's really no surprise to me that directors had them paired up in so many movies of their shinning film careers.

SCREENSHOTS PART #1

The storyline of this movie is base on one of Qiong Yao’s books of the same title. For those who are familiar with this famous Taiwanese novelist... yup, "Love Under a Rosy Sky": (1) is a love story with plenty of sweet romantic scenes from the age of innocence, and (2) has some major *watering the lawn* work being done throughout. But this is not just any ordinary person shedding tears. This is the legendary Lin Ching Hsia we’re talking about, so you can imagine the difference in the affects that had on me. =0 And after all, if compare to Qiong Yao and Brigitte’s other collaborations (such as "Cloud of Romance"), I guess this one wouldn’t be considered a tear-jerker to the extreme yet, because at least it has a happy ending for the couple. ^-^

SCREENSHOTS PART #2

Brigitte's character name is Yin Tsai Chin. She is the daughter of the 2nd wife in the Yin family. Her mother does not have much position in the family and as a result of that, she is treated very poorly by her stepmother, her stepbrother, and even her own father. Brigitte and Chin Han are childhood sweethearts. Chin, who goes by the name of Chiao Shu Pei in here, is the son of a scholar who does not want him to be involved in any way with the people of the troubling Yin family. But as fate would have it, ever since they were still in kindergarten, Chin and Brigitte have been quilted together, of which brought them into trouble many times.

SCREENSHOTS PART #3

Brigitte and Chin have a special meet up place, which is the beach. Since young, they have always loved to come here together to watch the twilight (a.k.a. the ‘rosy sky’ from the movie’s title). Years passed and soon, they were now in high school. One day, Chin’s drawing did not make it to the school’s competition. He felt depressed and took a walk to the beach. Brigitte followed the lad and comforted him. Unexpectedly, Chin’s drawing disappeared on the beach that day. It turned out that Brigitte’s father caught them at the beach together and the old man sure wasn’t too happy about it. As a result, he beat Brigitte and took the painting to Chin’s father afterward, along with some insulting remarks, asking him to "watch for his son".

SCREENSHOTS PART #4

Brigitte’s brother (played by Ma Yong Lin) is just as bad as their father. One evening after school, he brought some bullies with him and started a fight with Chin. Brigitte (looking so frail and thin back in those days), who was also there with Chin, rushed up to try to stop her mean old brother. She was then hit by him and fainted. Chin also passed out after the fight and was carried to the hospital. When he woke up, he found out from a good friend of them that Brigitte has been taken back by her father. Not too long after that, Chin also received a letter from Brigitte, in which she let him know her father has been caught doing illegal business and has been put on trial. As a result, she and the rest of the family had to move to another faraway town. Chin was heartbroken.

SCREENSHOTS PART #5

Things took on a twist for the worse after this point. Apparently, our heroine seems luckless in here. In order to save her father, her mother and stepmother decided to marry her off to an old lawyer, who claimed that he could get Mr. Yin out of all legal troubles. Under one condition, of course, and that was if they’d give Brigitte to him. Sadly enough, they trusted him when in fact, he couldn’t do anything and lost the case in the end. Brigitte’s father was imprisoned for life. Her mother also bitterly found out that the lawyer is actually a married man. Unable to take all of the concurrent coming shocks, Brigitte's mother soon passed away.

*Brigitte & Chin Han: "Memories Under a Rosy Sky" (thanks to Moon for making the poster)

After her mother’s death, life was like a living hell for poor Brigitte. She was abused by her husband and at one point, he threatened to kick her out of the house and just let her starve on the streets. Brigitte then left him and guess who was the first person she thought of after leaving? Of course, her childhood sweetheart Chin Han – who was seen together in several scenes with a female classmate by this point of the movie. Brigitte only secretly followed Chin and his friend, but one night, Chin finally caught sight of her. The two of them reunited and shared a kiss that had my heart melt like a bar of hot chocolate. ^-^ Brigitte then told Chin of her story. Chin’s heart ached at hearing what she had been through all this time. He was determined he would not let anyone hurt his vulnerable Brigitte anymore. Brigitte, ashamed of the fact that she is now no longer a virgin, did not want to be with Chin at first, but Chin swore he could never let Brigitte out of his embracing arms again. "I love you. I want you. And I will marry you." And that is all there is to it.

SCREENSHOTS PART #6

So the happy couple folded up with whatever little savings they had left and rented a small cabin. Life was good to them in the beginning. Almost too good to be true. Everyday Chin went to school and work, while Brigitte stayed at home to take care of the domestic chores. When Chin got home, Brigitte would then wash his face with a warm cloth, hug him, kiss him, and have cooked food ready for him to eat (Chin is in paradise!). There is a cute scene where the two of them had dinner under the candlelight and drank wine in a bride-groom crisscrossed manner, and then shared another tender kiss (without even bothering to remove the dining table that laid between them ^-^). *sigh* Okay, I admit – my heart is melting again. I know, I’m such a hopeless romantic soul. =0

SCREENSHOTS PART #7

Problems began to occur though after the day Chin, due to his pride, quitted his petty tutoring job and then found it a hassle being able to find another one. The couple was so poor that at one point, Chin didn’t even have enough money to buy a full glass of sugar cane juice for Brigitte. Because of this, his pride suffered a heavy blow and he occasionally took out his frustration on Brigitte. Well, being the once-in-a-life-time wife that she was, Brigitte always endured his temper and forgave him afterward.

SCREENSHOTS PART #8

To help out with the financial situation, Brigitte got herself a job as a singer/organ player at a restaurant. The senior musician there taught her the basic of playing the organ. They performed together and what do you know… this guy soon also fell in love with our pretty Brigitte. Brigitte, of course, only had Chin in her heart. However, a number of visits from Chin’s friends, including the female classmate who was seen with Chin when Brigitte first returned, had Brigitte’s confidence take a fall (she thought of herself as lacking the education and social status compare to them). Using this chance, the senior musician further philosophized with Brigitte about all the problems the different classes of two people can create, in hope of being able to win her from Chin.

SCREENSHOTS PART #9

Chin also knew of Brigitte’s co-worker and wasn’t happy. He wanted Brigitte to quit her work. To add to the hot spot, Brigitte’s stepbrother reappeared and pressured her to help pay off his gambling debt for him, else he would give Chin trouble. In order to earn the extra money, Brigitte then had to work endlessly, juggling several jobs all at once. Chin, who didn’t have a clue about the matter, accused Brigitte of a change of heart. To top it all, Chin’s father showed up one day and had a talk with Brigitte. Everything just weaved together like a storm and finally, poor Brigitte collapsed, both physically and mentally.

SCREENSHOTS PART #10

At last, Chin found out the real reason for why Brigitte needed to work all those long hours, and thus not had enough time to spend with him lately. In addition, he was also enlightened by his female classmate and his own father, who both encouraged him to treasure the priceless love Brigitte has always given him. Regretted, he came to the hospital to apologize to Brigitte, bringing along with him his father’s letter with the approval for their marriage. After shedding a couple more tears on her beautiful face, Brigitte forgave Chin and the two of them got married. Happily by each other’s side, they took off to the beach on the wedding’s evening to enjoy the most beautiful twilight of their lives.
