***Burn Phoenix Burn***

"Burn Phoenix Burn" started with two little girls playing together. The younger sister then took fall as her older sister was pushing her on the swing. As a result, she lost her eyesight.

Years later after the two of them have grown up, we now have two young women, beautiful both inside and out. Brigitte played the older sister and Lu Xiu Ling played the younger one. Because of what happened in their childhood, Brigitte always carried with her a complexion of guilt. She felt she is responsible for Xiu Ling’s blindness and tried to make it up her whole life to her sister. She loved Xiu Ling more than her own life, and sacrificed everything that she could for Xiu Ling’s sake.

Brigitte was first seen together with Liu Wen Zheng, but she ended up giving him up to Xiu Ling, who also loved him very much. Xiu Ling knew this and fell into another of her regular self-pity notch, and Brigitte had to try to comfort her: "No, the feeling between him and me is not love. Trust me sis – if I really loved him, I wouldn’t give him to you." But she did make it clear that she will not let similar situation happen again in the future. "I can give up anything in this world for you, with the exception of the love for my man–" Brigitte said.

Later on, Brigitte was pursued by another man (Wan Jong Awk), who met her in the library and whom she came to accept and reciprocate his love. She introduced Wan to her parents, Xiu Ling, and Liu, and everything seemed to fare well. That is, until the day Brigitte caught Xiu Ling hugging Wan and crying in his arms. She was deeply hurt. How could the same thing be happening again? But this time, she wasn’t willing to give up her lover like she had once did in the past.

Wan and Xiu Ling both came running to Brigitte to apologize for what happened that day. They told her it was all just a misunderstanding. It took a while for everything to cool down, and Brigitte even almost broke up with Wan because of this. She also had a "cold ignoring period" with Xiu Ling that had Xiu Ling come into her room, crying and asking her sister to forgive her at one point. Of which she did. Brigitte and Xiu Ling sewed up their sisterhood and Xiu Ling got married to Liu soon afterward.

Life was not easy for Xiu Ling after the marriage – she was having trouble adapting to her in-laws family because of her blindness. This caused Xiu Ling to fall into an even more serious notch of self-pity. But with the help of Brigitte, Wan, and Liu, she gradually managed to change her attitudes toward life, and was able to live a normal life again. In the end, the two couples met up at a family party and everyone was happy to see Xiu Ling a cheerful and dependent person now. Brigitte took Xiu Ling around to introduce to her friends – she was very proud of her younger sister. The two couples danced and joyfully embraced each other.

In my happiest dream, I remember seeing myself getting to play Lu Xiu Ling’s character of the younger sister. =0 Though this character is pathetically full of self-pity most of the time, what's appealing is the fact that she is loved so much by her older sister, a.k.a. Brigitte. And you can see this love being demonstrated both verbally and physically. That alone, makes this character worth the hotspot.

Brigitte and Lu Xiu Ling had a lot of on-screen chemistry playing as sisters. Every "sisterly" chit-chat or physical action they shared was very effective. The scene when Xiu Ling got down on her knees to ask for her sister’s forgiveness did have me make use of the tissue box. You can tell from this scene that the only reason why Brigitte was so mad at Xiu Ling is because she loved her – and it sure hurts when someone you love that much disappoints you (i.e. the incident of Xiu Ling and Brigitte’s boyfriend). But of course, the divine theme of the movie is sisterhood, and so we have Brigitte forgiving her sister, hugging and pulling her under the blanket afterward. That part was mad cute. ^-^
