Brightheart was born in Frostfur's litter along with Cinderkit, Thornkit, and Brackenkit. She is not mentioned much in the books before A Dangerous Path, but then, in this book, she thought she could take on the dog pack and drive out the dogs with another apprentice, Swiftpaw, but was seriously injured, while Swiftpaw was killed. Bluestar then gave her the name "Lostface". After that, Cloudtail hardly ever left her side. When Bluestar died, Firestar changed her name, using a never before seen ceremony, to Brightheart. She was disappointed that she wouldn't become a warrior, so she and her mate Cloudtail worked out a special fighting style that she only needed one eye and ear to use. This fighting style turned out to be very successful. In the New Prophecy series, she and Cloudtail have had a kit named Whitekit, later named Whitewing. She, along with her mate, Cloudtail, are captured by Twolegs, along with Mistyfoot, and later Leafpaw, and the rogue, Sasha. In The Sight, she mentors Jaypaw for a short time before he becomes a medicine cat."
