BRAZOS RANGERS

Cowboy Action Shooting "Texas"

News

4/26/08
From the Office of Judge Walker

Howdy to all, I hope that everyone has had a good April.  As I had stated that we would have a 3gun for May's shoot, this has been dropped from the planning.  Reason,is we found a problem with the berm that leads to our back area being low at one corner.  This area has been worked on by Rail Boss and he has talked to the safety director(Bill Hunt) of Greenwood Gun Club.  Bill is to be out at the range on this Sat the  26th to take a look at the work, I hope he will approve of the work.  If it looks good he will bring it up at the next board meeting to be approved by the board.  We will still close the front range down during our shoots.    We have a new VP with our group and it is Longshot Mike and we do welcome him on board to help NoGunzKay in her President's.

Well that s all the news for now.  I hope I will see all May 11th for our next shoot, I do know it is Mother's Day so lets still have fun.  If you know anyone that would be interested in Cowboy Action Shooting invite them to come on out and have fun with us, they don't have to shoot, they can watch and who know they might just get hook on the fun we are having.

Our president has requested to be able to set down from his office.  He will assume the position of Construction and Range maintenamce.   He will still fulfill the lasion between Greenwood Gun Club and the Brazos Rangers.  This new position will allow him to be able to travel to other clubs and get more ideals to help us build a better outfit.  The group has come a long way with his leadersihp and I feel he has done a great job and will contintue.

Our new president will be Kay Bensuk(NoGunKays), she has been our vic- president and will move up to the new position.  Everyone will need to give her the support as you have given Rail Boss during his term.

I hope to see all at our next shoot 13 April.

Howdy:
Rowdy and I spent the day at the range.... The doors are hung on the fort.
The walkway is completed to the West. The roof and runners are set over the
walk way and ready for tin roofing..... Didn't get to mow today, but will get
to that sometime Saturday, as well as getting the tin up... Still need to build
loading and unloading station between the fort and Jail. Starting to look
more and more like a town....

We will have a new shooter, from the local area, out and watching and possibly
shooting with us this weekend... He is awaiting the arrival of his lever gun,
but has the shotgun and pistols.... Lives in Lake Jackson and has been a
Greenwood member for numerous years.... His alias, which I will not try and
spell, comes from one of his past family members... Also will have to check
out his shirt.... It is from a family member that was in the movie "Dances with
Wolves", and was worn in the movie.... Should be interesting, and he is one
of my bowling compadres from the past....

Will be out there early Saturday morning, finishing up the target setup and
   roof, as well as mowing....

Well, I got a email from one of the guy's, to remind me that this Sunday is spring forward with the time.  So set your clocks Sat. nite forward an hour.  Get, I think they should get rid of that deal.  Thanks for keeping me up on the time changes, I tend to let those things slid.

Howdy all; from the Office of Judge Walker

Well February went by quickly, and our monthly shoot is next Sunday.  I do hope I will be able to see all at Brazostown to get into some pratice for the up comming Trailhead at Columbus, Texas.  So lets all come out and have some fun shooting and bring along your long gun to get some shoots on the long range.  Don't know how we are going to shoot this one but we will see next Sunday.  Make sure you get in town by 830am so you can register and make the safety meeting, ifn you don't make the meeting you want get to shoot.  So grab your boots, jeans and hat and come on out and have fun.  Ifn you know someone that might be interested in our sport or would like to watch bring them out, please let them know that this is an old West shooting group and try to wear something Western, if they don't have anything, then we will let them shoot after the match if finished and give them some pointers about our sport and see about what is going on.  Also, if any y'll have some old duds that you want to get rid of, bring them on out and someone might be looking for something to add to their outfit.

See y'll, Sunday

Ft Tyler has been installed (sorry for the bad
pic...camera at home and only had camera phone).  We
really appreciate the Regulators donating it to us.
We are going to continue to honor "Tyler Beasley" by
still calling it "Ft Tyler".  With the help of Rowdy
and Railboss, we were able to get it up today.  We are
all looking forward to shooting yet another new stage,
and I'm sure we will enjoy this for many shoots to
come!

I hope that everyone had a great time.  The next shoot will be on Feb 10th and look forward to seeing y'all again.  We need someone to take over the rains from Rail Boss and this outfit, it is y'all shooting outfit and Rail Boss has been doing a super great job of keeping the group running.  We need to give him a break and let him just be one of the shooters and have fun.
Please me know, who can fill his boots.
Mark your calendar again for the 10th of Feb. For those that are shooting Trailhead at Columbus, this will give you more practice for March 27 to 30 so you can be top gun at Trailhead '08.

Happy Holidays All....
Wanted to let you know that the Los Brazos Cantina is now complete and open for business (Newest Stage)!  Here are the pictures (just click on the link...)
Rowdy & Railboss have worked real hard and we now have a Long Range.  It looks like it is between 125 and 150 yds for now....So after the Main Match is over (Jan 13th), we can (with donated targets) either have a big bore side match or just a cowboy rifle side match (or even both).  We can set up about three targets for the time being..ranges from 75 to 150 yds.  Let's just have some fun!  If you are interested in shooting the Long Range, just email me at swa88@yahoo.com.
Happy New Year!

At this time I do wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  Remember our next shoot will be 13 Jan 2008.  I hope that all were able to get what they had wished for, but remember that there are those that are serving in locations so you might enjoy this day.  It is hard being seperated from loved ones as I have had to go throught this myself at different times.

So to all again "MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR"

Greetings:
Yesterday, (Thursday), the construction crew of Rowdy Yates, Johnny Morris, and myself, with
shop foreman Renegade, built another building at Brazos Rangers.. Not yet sure what it will
be called or what color to paint it, but at least it's there.... Got to watch that Renegade, he's a
slave driver...... Not to mention his measurements are sometimes not too accurate.....

Best to all

I want  to thank everyone for taking the time at this time of year to come on out to the shoot today.  It is hard with Christmas two weeks away and all the shopping going on and plans being made.  The food was good and had fun again at the shoot, I hope the Brazosport Facts will print a good Article on the Brazos Rangers.  I do hope that someone was able to allow them a chance to shoot.  Sorry, I left my camera behind so I don't know if we will have any photos to post to the web for the end of year.  But to all, this is your group of friends to get together and I will close with "TO ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A VERY HAPPY YEAR"  and do very much hope to see you guy's in  2008;  January 13, 2008, will be our next shoot.  You guy's are the best.

I do want to thank all for showing up for the Brazos Rangers shoot today.  I do hope that everyone had a great time.  We had a very good turn out with 27 shooters.  The scores are out, so you can see how you did, alot of ammo was needed for the shoot, but they where fun.  When all was done, I was ready to start over again because it was a good shoot.

Well mark your calendar for the 9th of Dec.  This will be our next shoot for the month and we will shoot about 3 or 4 stages and have a Mex lunch.  Will need everyone to bring something out for the lunch, so wip up a dish and bring it along.  After we chow down, we might even come up with a side match to around out the day.  So hope to see everyone again on December 9th.

To all, have a very good Thanksgiving and a happy November.

Til December 9th, take care

Well it is a new month and we will have a shoot at Brazos Texas Town on Nov 11, yes I know it is Vet's, but that is ok.  Well the stages this time are done by No Gunz, she says we need to check out the movie called "Crossfire Trail" to get an ideal of what is happening.  We have one stage that will require extra guns and these will be staged for your use.  We have located some special guns for 3X8 and Dimond Jim, from an arcaid vendor, hahahahah.  I hope we will have a good turn out and I am sure everyone will fun.  Now for the town Rail Boss has been putting alot of hard work on our town and I do think everyone will like what is going on, a bunch of us will be making a trip this Sunday to take down a fort and move it the town.  So I look forward to seeing everyone at Greenwood Gun Club on the 11th of Nov., safety meeting will start at 845am and shooting will commence at 9am.

All make sure to set your clocks back this Sunday .

Well still working with Comcast email system, I hope this will get all the scores to everyone.  I had about four different address book in by systems and have been trying to get rid of them and keep this newly built one. I thank thoses that offered the use of their rifles, when mine failed to operate, but with my luck at the shoot, I didn't want to take the chance of something else going wrong, man what a bad day. Make sure you mark your Calendars for Nov 11th, Right it is Veterans Day, maybe I will have better luck, sence I am a Vet with over 20yrs.

Here are the scores for Sept 9th shootout ant Brazos Town.  For the new shooter that came out you will need XL reader, all scoreing is shown in xl format.  I am glad to see such a good turn out and hope we will get more to showup and have fun with us.  We had one of our new shooters doing some photoing shooting and maybe we can get his photos on our web page if it is still operating, I haven't been there in a long time.  I thank all of you for enduring the heat and hope everyone had a great day at our town.  Rail Boss, 3X8, Loranzo and Rowdy Yeates(who was not able to attend due to work) have put in alot of work.  Rail Boss plans on installing the new boardwalk if anyone can show up Monday, he would like the help.
If any one might have an email add on Randell, I would like to add it to my list, I missed getting his.  Again, I thank all of you comming out and haveing fun with us and hope to see u'll on Oct 14th., have a great month until then.

Howdy to all

Well it is a new month and we will have Sept shootout at Brazos Town on Sept 9th, we need to get together about 8 or 830am so we can start shooting at 9am.  Rail Boss still has someones chair that was left behind at our last shoot that I am aware of.  With the rain that we have been having I hope that the range is still in good shape.  Rowdy,3X8 and Rail Boss have been doing a great job and alot of hard work out at the range getting the town put together, if any of you have time to come out contact Rail Boss and make arrangments with him. Diamond Jim is looking for 357 lead, so ifn anyone has some might bring them along and work out a deal with Jim. I would like to get some news from you guys, been thinking about getting the old paper going again and need to know what u'all want to do. I haven't been doing to much except traveling back and forth to ER taking care of problems arriving back from the old C word but I will be there on the 9th and I hope to see u'll out there too.

So mark your calendar and lets have fun and a safe and great shoot.

Well, I checked the rain gauge this afternoon and had 2 1/4" in it. This comes out to over 10" of rain in the pass three days and we have more to come. The bad news is that I will call the shoot for this month and we will have to try it for August 12th. I had thought about shooting up front but it will be to confinning and I don't think it would work out to well, we are to have more rain on Sunday and that would make things bad as well. So everyone have a good weekend and take it easy and hope August will be better.
Sorry to call the shoot , but I think it is for the best.

Well it is a new month and looking at the calendar, I see that our next shoot will be next weekend. Time does fly. I do hope the weather will stay some what cool. It looks like rain all next week, but that might be only in the early morning and stay cloudy, will have to see later. I do hope to still have our shoot on Sunday, we will get shooting at 830am instead of 9, mabe this will allow for some coolness. Safety meeting will start at 815am and regeristering will start at 730am. Please bring plenty of water to drink. If the weather does get to hot we might call the shoot, we will shoot 4 stages instead of the 5 or 6. I hope everone has a good week and will be able to attend the shoot Sunday, July 8th.

Howdy:
Went to the range this morning to mow, and there was a CHL class going on, so I wasted time
till they finished and then got the town mowed around noon... Charlie Robuck has sprayed
weed/grass killer around the buildings, this appears to have helped some... The dirt on the
burm to the West is high enough now that the folks next door are no longer a problem....

I did go back around 2:00 PM to do a little shooting, and didn't stay long, it is HOT  out
there.... No wind at all... So guess we need pleant of water on Sunday... The marks are in
place on the ground to lay the new conduit for power and a water line to a point near the
Flag pole.... Guess that Grenwood is going to lay the lines.... They are also going to cease
using the shallow well and have a deep well dug, this should be good drinking water....

Hope to see all you folks this Sunday... I have had about three parties call wanting info on the
shoot, so they all sayed that they would be there this Sunday...

Have a great day

Due to the indicive weather and showing rain for the morrning and Easter, Brazos Rangers will not be having a shoot Sunday the 8th of April.  Rail Boss Hoss will be out and the gate will be opened for awhile ifn you want to comming out and do some practizing.
I hope everyone have a nice Easter.

Judge Walker

Howdy:
Well, the April shoot is approaching.... This brings a delima that needs to be
    addressed...

First, our shoot is scheduled for April 8th (Easter Sunday).... May no have too many
    show....

Second, the Renegades have their two day shoot scheduled for the 7th & 8th.

What to do.... Being on an active gun range, all of our shoot dates are pretty well stuck
in stone untill the dozer work is accomplished.... After that we may be able to move
some stuff around without having to close anything else down...

So do we have our shoot on the 8th, or cancel it due to the Holiday and other shoots.
If we decide to canecl it, we need to get the word out....

Input from all would be appreciated.....

Rail Boss

BTW you know me (bent wing and all) I am ready to shoot....

Greetings All:
We have been planning the get together in April for our second FEAST.... However
the Judge brought to my attention that our shoot day in April will be Easter Sunday,
so we may need to rethink the dates...... There are a good number of Greenwood
members that have shown an interest in the Cowboy Action Shooting Sport...
Since Charlie Robuck has sent me a list of their names with Email addresses, we will
be trying to get a date set that we can have some type of demo. of the sport.... Probably
will be at the range.... All we can do until that time is invite these folks out to our shoots
so they can get an idea of what is going on.... Some want one on one instruction and
that can only be done either after a shoot or at some other time more convienent for
  person....
So lets collect up the cowboy chronicles and any magazines anyone wants to part
with, and get ready to have a good ole sit around the campfire type chat with these
  folks on some future date....

Howdy:
To all the brave soles that ventured out to the Brazos Rangers Shoot... I thank you... The weather
thought to be bad was really great with no rain or low temperatures, all that remained well North
    for the shoot Sunday...

Here are the scores that were on the cards that were turned in to me... I am not sure on a couple of
them as there were Penality Seconds in place of "Procedural". The Procedural is an automatic
10 second penality... Some of the penality's were 5 and on 10 second... Not sure how but that is
what was on the card.... From this point on, we will no longer have and odd number of penality times
added to the scorecard... They will only be procedural and have a value of 10 seconds. Only the
"Bonus" section will be available for and entry of "seconds".....

Again, thanks to all who showed up for the shoot, it was a great time....

I have been keeping up with the weather this week and the old weather people are saying that we aren't get it til Tue, we have a 30% and a Hi of 75 for Sunday. I hope it stays that way, hope to see you guys out at the range. It has been brought to my attention that the gunclub would like us to have a Cowboy workshop on CAS, ifn any of you have any old Cowboy Chronicles you want to get rid of I will be glad to take them, bring them with you, so ifn this work shop goes I will use them for handout so ifn any one intrested shows up they can have an ideal of what is going on. It seems the article that I wrote, stured some intrest. We are still in need of building material and will be buying more steal as things keep going.
Well I hope to CU u'll Sunday

I wish to take this time to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a Great New Year.  We are approaching another year of 2007 and 2006 is passing behind us.  Everyone has been working very hard on improving the Brazos Rangers and it is looking very good, I thank you all.  Monday is the day for the Creator and I hope all shall remember and set aside time for thanks to him.  I hope old Nick will drop you all some new duds, leather or irons, that you might have put on your list.  Well I see that THSS has got End Of Trail set for march, if you are able to attend you need to make it.  THSS has great show and match, everyone needs to go and watch the shoots or sign up and take part, you will have fun.  I am going to try and work this year there and enjoy the group, dought if I will shoot, I like to watch more on these things it is great and a lot of fun to boot.
Our next shoot will be the 14th of Jan 07, need to start getting together about 8am because the safety meeting will start at 830am and if you don't make the safety meeting then you want be able to shoot.  We will start burning powder at 9am.  Shooting fees will be $10 starting at Jan shoot, we are increasing the fees to cover the price of building materials and new steel for targets.  We have one of our younger shooters back from New Mexico and I hope he will be able to start shooting again;  TD made it to End of Trail there and said he had a great time and is glad to be back.  So I look forward to seeing you guys at Brazos, Texas in January.

Again everyone have a Merry Christmas

Judge Walker

Howdy:
Many thanks to the folks that made this Decembers shoot a great success... I think
all had fun and also some great food.... Many thanks to Judge for the cooking of
the meat and to all that brought goodies....

Attached is a copy of the scores that we had today.... I am at a crossroads on the
scoring, so I will ask the opinion of you folks.... I am doing the scoring for another
group and it has been said that they want the scoring done by "Rank Points" with
any tie decided by the "Final Total Time". In the past I have been keeping places
by the "Final Total Time".  So when you view this scoresheet, it will have both
listed just after the shooters name.....

Judge Walker, if you want to send this entire Email to all, or delete this part and
send just the Excel attachment, I will leave that up to you. Need some ideas as
to how things really need to work. WOuld like to use same program that I made
for THSS..... That is where the "Rank Points" came from..... Any ideas would
   be appreciated.....

Great Shoot and Hope all have a Merry and Safe Christmas and a Happy and
  Safe New Year....

Well it is the wrap of the end of a year and Christmas is here and we have all given Thanks that we are still a Free Country.  I hope that all have made their wish lists and have been good little girls and boys as I know we are.  This is a time for the creator and not to be given to all the retailer's, it is a giving from the heart, so those that are gifted I hope you are able to give of your pride of talents.  We have those to thank that walk among us that have put alot of effort forth in keeping the Brazos Rangers together and moving forward and I at this time thank you all for the time and effort you have given, if it were not your support we would not exist.
I will be cooking this week, so to get thing ready for this comming Sunday.  We will have a short shoot and Rail Boss Hoss has told me it will be fun as always.  We will have a meeting and Safety meeting at 8am Sunday the 10th and all need to attend before the shoot.  Bring a chair to sit on and we can set trucks in a circle and drop tailgates to give extra sitting.  3X8 has been working on a new web site and it looks very good, you might take a look.

So I hope to see all of u'all at Brazos, Texas this next Sunday and ifn I might have left anything out let me know.  Have a great week and once again, thanks to all
