31/10/07

I've been pondering if I should say this, but there it goes... IT WAS DIGUSTING HEARING THE NEWS ABOUT THE SHOOTING OF THE HEN HARRIERS AT SANDRINGHAM. WHO DID THIS SHOULD BE PROSSECUTED, DOESN'T MATTER WHO IT WAS!

27/10/07

This morning at Burnham Norton I saw 3 Tree Sparrows, 1 Brambling, 2 Goldcrest, 1 Coal Tit, 1 Fieldfare and 1 Redwing.  After I headed to Wells where I've seen 2 Great White Egrets and more than 10 Little Egrets.

From Warham I could see the Great White Egrets , 1 Hen Harrier, 1 Marsh Harrier and also 1 Rough-legged Buzzard being chased by the Crows over Wells.  Also in Warham I've seen  6 Siskins and a pair of Stonechats.

At Stiffkey Fen I had wonderful close views (I say "really" close views!) of 1 Yellow-browed Warbler with the Long-tailed Titts and 1 Chiffchaff.

At the West End of Holkham 1 Spotted Flycatcher, sp. neumanni, eastern race, it had a shorter tail and some more apparent markings on its wings.  Also there 2 Firecrest and on the way back 1 adult Ross's Goose.

It was too chilli at Titchwell for me to record anything... brrrr....

23/10/07

I just check the MET CHECK, the forecast is good.  Easterly's.  Maybe some good birds will turn up this week in Norfolk!

22/10/07

Today driving through Gayton I saw 1 Common Buzzard.

21/10/07

Ashley and I saw 1 White-cheeked Rosella feeding on roadside in Marham.  Very good looking bird and I'm looking forward to seeing it on its original habitat, Australia.

At Narborough Railway Line: 2 Bulfinches, 1 Marsh Tit, 2 Woodlarks, 4 Skylarks, 1 Nuthatch,1 Great-spotted Woodpecker, 2 Goldcrests, 1 Yellowhammer, a group of Chaffinches and Greenfinches and lots of thrushes: Fieldfares, Redwings and Blackbirds about.

20/10/07

Today a flock of Fieldfares flew over my house as I was having my lunch in the garden.

18/10/07

This morning on my way to work I've seen 1 Kestrel perched in Narford, 1 Common Buzzard, 2 Grey Wagtails and 1 Nuthatch in West Acre.  At Hillborough I've seen 2 Woodlarks, 15 Fieldfares, 2 Coal Tits, 5 Blue Tits and 3 Great Tits.  And later in the afternoon in West Acre I heard 2 Tawny Owls.

17/10/07

Today in West Acre I've seen 2 Chaffinches and heard a few Goldcrest.  Wonder if there is any Firecrest wondering around there?!

16/10/07

This morning going to work I've seen a very different deer: dark brown, big also with big antlers.  Don't know it was a Fallow Deer or a Red Deer, gonna especulate with the locals from West Acre.  Also seen 1 Red Fox.

15/10/07

Coming back from work on my bike I've seen 1 Brambling in Marham Road also 1 Yellowhammer.

Today at Marham Fen I've seen 1 Barn Owl .  At Pentney 1 Common Tern seen briefly.

I've seen 1 very immature (almost young) Great Crested Grebe in Nar-Valley Fisheries also today, also 5 Swallows.

14/10/07

Good Heavens!  Finally I had a day off work on a weekend...  Anyway, I biked to Narborough Railway Line this morning and stayed there between 10-11.30 a.m. I've seen: 3 Long-tailed Tit, 1 Marsh Tit, 3 Great Tit and 6 Blue Tit, 2 Yellowhammers, 2 Chaffinches, 4 Greenfinches, 8 Skylarks, 2 Woodlarks and about 10 Redwings.    I've heard 2 Bullfinches and 1 Nuthatch.

On the way back home I stoped at Marham Fen, but it was pretty quiet, Long-tailed Tits, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Chaffinches and Greenfinches.  Maybe I'm going back later.

My new telescope is coming today from InFocus!

Yes I finaly got my new scope from InFocus.  It's a Nikon ED50 A, with a 20-60 zoom eyepiece, compact, yet very efficient.  It was very cheap as well!  Anyway comes with a Ten Year Limited Warranty.  It's pink and I LOVE IT!  I hope to see very good birds with it too.

I've been to Hillborough to test my new equipment, that luckly worked.  Anyway, I've seen 2 Siskins, 1 Goldcrest, 2 Coal Tits, 5 Blue Tits, 2 Great Tits and 4 Long-tailed Tits, 2 Nuthatches heard.

Headed to Great Cressingham and I've seen 15 Stone Curlews and a flock of about 25 Golden Plovers.

It was late afternoon when I went to Shingham and saw 1 Chiffchaff, 4 Coal Tits, 2 Marsh Tits, 7 Blue Tits, 4 Long-tailed Tits, 3 Chaffinches and 3 Greenfinches.  Didn't stay too long there because it was getting dark and cold.  I heard a funny sound that reminded me a big Deer like it was Simon King making the impression of it.

07/10/07

Hopefuly when I'm back from work I'll do some decent birding.

As I always say: "Oh, well!", unfortunately I finished work late today and had no time to go and see the stuff that Ashley found (£$%^&*()_+!?@~#!).  He found 1 male Waxwing and 1 Yellow-browed Warbler at Burham Norton and 1 immature Common Rosefinch feeding on the elder berriers at Warham.  I'm very happy for him, but I'm quite sad that I wasn't there to enjoy those sightings.  Luckly Robin Abel was there to witness the Rosefinch and the views were so nice that Ashley took some pretty decent pictures of it.

I've done no decent birding!  But I'm going to get my new scope next weekend!

06/10/07

Ashley told me that the Shag was still at Pentney.  Good job I've seen it on Wednesday, 03/10, when Ashley found it.

05/10/07

A long day at work no birding at all!

03/10/07

Ashley found 1 Shag today at Pentney, immature and very sleepy.  Also there 3 Common Terns, 1 Chiffchaff and 15 Long-tailed Tits.

30/9/07

What a B'day!

Before going on the Wells Harbour I had to stop at Holkham Freshmarsh where I've seen 1 ad. Ross's Goose (n.c.) and 1 Barnacle Goose.  Later from the boat I've seen 2 Little Tern, 1 Sandwich Tern, 5 Gannets and 1 Guillemot that was resting at the little island in Stiffkey, I suppose he was ill.

I saw today a great looking male... Sub-alpine Warbler! Wonderful plumage. I heard 1 Yellow-browed Warbler, 1 Chiffchaff and saw 1 Lesser Whitethroat.

Had to head to Gramborough Hill, Salthouse to see 1 Blyth's Reed Warbler.  I had a very good view of it on my scope, but briefly.  Tried to see it for the second time, but one birder couldn't stop moving in front of me, obstructing my view.

In Dauke's hide, Cley, I've seen 3 Grey Phalaropes, 1 Red-necked Phalarope and 1 Spotted Redshank.

29/9/07

This morning I had 1 immature Sabine's Gull at West of Cley Coastguards, wonderful close views.  I count this one as my birthday present in advance.

Later at Wareham I saw 1 Redstart, 1 Garden Warbler, 5 Goldcrest, 1 Fieldfare and 1 Wheatear.

Driving through Stiffkey I saw the Sacred Ibis, but I'm not counting it, of course!  Gonna wait until I see it in a trip somewhere else.

I had to go to work late afternoon.

28/9/07

Working 11.30 a.m.-09.00 p.m. today.

26/9/07

Today I've been feeling so poorly with my cold that I couldn't manage to stay in the shelter at Sheringham for too long: just seen 2 Bonxies, 5 Gannets, 1 Arctic Tern, 1 Sandwich Tern and 3 Guillemots.  Spent most of the time in the car.

Then I headed to Dauke's hide, Cley, to see 2 Grey Phalarope, really good to see it.  I've seen also 2 Little Stints and 2 Curlew Sandpipers.

Towards Congham I saw 1 Tawny Owl flying over the road.

24/9/07

The Little Owl was very upset last night with something I suppose, it was calling all night long outside my house.  Anti-social behaviour!

23/9/07

I heard early in the morning the Little Owl from my bedroom window.

Hopefuly I'll put more exciting today's news in the afternoon, after work.

Later in West Acre I saw 1 Green Woodpecker in the road and 5 Barn Swallows, 2 Robins, 3 Blue Tit, 1 Long-tailed Tit and 3 Carrion Crows at the ford.

And coming back from a friends place I saw 1 Barn Owl.

22/9/07

This afternoon I had to rush to Titchwell to see the Long-billed Dowitcher, I saw it but it was a bit distance.  I managed to see its dark crown and its bill when it woke up 'tough.

And tonight at West Acre I heard again 2 Tawny Owls.

21/9/07

Tonight at work in West Acre I heard 2 Tawny Owls nearby.

20/9/07

On my way back home I saw 1 Common Buzzard at West Acre this afternoon.

19/9/07

On my way to work at Narford I saw 8 Barn Swallows.  On my way back home at Narborough I heard 1 Turtle Dove (am I mad?).

The Red-crested Pochard was still at Pentney today.

18/9/07

Today right after coming from work I had to rush on my bike to Pentney to see an immature Black Tern, hoping it was a White-winged Black Tern, but it was not.  Anyway, I managed to see 1 immature Red-crested Pochard and 1 immature Garganey.

16/9/07

Today at West Runton I saw 1 Pomarine Skua, 7 Guillemot and 3 Gannet.  Afterwards headed to Holkham Freshmarsh where I saw 1 adult Snow Goose and 100's Pink-footed Geese.

There's a Little Owl that keeps calling in the middle of the night in my garden!

14/9/07

This morning I saw 1 Green Woodpecker and tonight I heard 1 Tawny Owl and 1 Little Owl at West Acre.  To finish my evening I had a pint of Flashing Harry, very good indeed!

12/9/07

UH2BII2WI! Again!

11/9/07

UH2BII2WI!

10/9/07

Ashley (YWNWA)  and myself decided to go to Sheringham, well he decided after checking the weather forecast

Boy oh boy!

It was very cold afternoon at Sheringham, From 4.00-7.30 p.m. I managed to see 3 Leache's Petrel , had excellent views of 2 of them , 2 Pufin , 3 Sooty Shearwater , 7 Manx Shearwater, 3 Bonxie, 2 Long-tailed Skua, 100's of Kittiwake and Little Gull, and 100's of Guillemots.

The fact that annoyed me most was that I wasn't able to see the Sabine's Gull (wich I thought I had seen, but I'm not confident enough to count it, I'm not a stringer) nor the Great Shearwater, because they were faster than my poor eyesight (almost * blind), not a fast trained eyes.  I have to wait 10 years now!

I was there feeling cold and hungry, but happy of being there in one of the best days for seawatching in Norfolk!

Beep beep: you have to be in it to win it!

09/9/07

Today at Titchwell I saw 1 immature Pectoral Sandpiper, 2 Bearded Tit, 2 Curlew Sandpiper, 5 Eider and 1 HUGE Seabass jumping in the sea.  Yum!

20/8/07

Today after work I went to Sheringham between 3.30-6.30 p.m. to do sea-watching.  It was pretty cold and windy, but it worth the effort, as I saw 1 immature Long-tailed Skua, 1 Great Skua, 1 immature Arctic Tern, 2 Kittiwake, 10 Arctic Skua, 1 Bonxie, 2 Manx Shearwater, 1 adult Little Gull, 15 Gannet, 2 female Eider, 15 Common Scoter, 10 Knot, 1 Grey Plover, 1 Golden Plover, 1 Curley, 2 Fulmar, 1 Bar-tailed Godwit, Common and Sandwich Terns.  After I had Fish and Chips, was very good.

It's 7.05 a.m. and I would like to appologise to you all that I delayed to put my news, I've been busy at home and also jobseeking.  But will try to keep it updated.

I'm so upset that the Surfbirds website is still out of the web (of order)!

Had to rush to Pentney this afternoon to see 1 Black-necked Grebe that was feeding in the lake found by Carl Donner.  Brilliant views!  It so cold, so cold...  brbrbr!  The Goosander was there, but I haven't seen it.

04/02/07

Ashley, Carl Donner and myself have been to Lynnford Arboretum in the morning.  Getting there a flock of more than 20 Hawffinch was there, I've got 21 so far.  Not very good lighting conditions for a picture 'tough, a very thick mist was surrounding Norfolk.  Walking around we've seen 1 Firecrest, 2 Goldcrest, 1 Willow Tit being chased by a group of  3 Marsh Tit, 2 Great Tit, 1 Coal Tit and 5 Blue Tit.

January 2007

31/01/07

Out to Farnham to see the Pacif Diver (Loon), had great views of it.  It was too active diving, preening and then it flew of.  Simply a brilliant bird!  Pitty I didn't have my camera with me to take some pictures of it.

Am I the first Brazilian to see the Pacif Diver in England?  If yes, cool!

Afterwards I headed to Bingley to see the American Robin and also had great views of it, but, sadly, no pictures!

28/01/07

Not an early morning today, started birding around 10.00 a.m. at Shingham: 1 Nuthatch, 2 Coal Tit, 2 singing Marsh Tit, 3 Siskin and 1 Sparrowhawk.  Headed to Tottenhill for a Smew that was there, but no sign of it, I've seen 1 Lesser Spotted Woodpecker instead.  Also there about 10 Goldeneye, 10 Shoveler, Mallards, 4 Pintails and no sign of the Pink-footed Goose I've seen yesterday with Ashley.

Afternoon birding in Shingham produced 1 Nuthatch, 1 Marsh Tit and 1 Great-spotted Woodpecker and few Redwings.

A big search for the Long-eared Owl was carried between Drymere and Beachamwell, but unfortunately not a successful one!  I flushed away a Woodcock, but only Ashley was able to see it, as it was too dark for my apprentice's eye!!!

15/01/07

Birding at Blackborough End Tip today Ashley found 1 adult Yellow-legged Gull.  I was freezing cold, but it was a nice view.  Also there Hering Gulls.

No Med. Gull and Goosander today at Pentney.

14/01/07

Today Ashley and me tried to see as many birds as possible in the Narvos area, not the Narvos Bird Race, but the Banwell's Bird Race.  Family members racing only!  Just for the fun.  Click here to see the scores.

The Goosander and the Med. Gull were still at Pentney and I've found early in the morning 1 Lesser White-fronted Goose that I cannot count on my list, 'though it had no colour rings 'coz it was heavily reintroduced anyway!  +_)(%^&$£"??!!

I had a good birding afternoon today, bearing in mind that it was my official first day birding in Norfolk.  Nar-Valley Fisheries: 8 Reed Bunting, 5 Wigeon, 14 Tufted Duck, 7 Mallard, a pair of Goldeneye, 5 Cormorant, 3 Yellowhammer, 4 Brambling, 5 Tree Sparrow, 2 Greenfinch, 3 Black Bird, 2 Magpie, 1 Redshank, 1 Jackdaw, 1 Great Tit, 4 Collared Dove, 2 Chaffinch and a pair of Grey Partridge with a naughty male chasing a not that naughty female.  Is that Spring?!  I'm confused... 'coz it's Winter!  Anyway, at Pentney: 1 first winter Med. Gull, 4 Goosander, 2 Grey Wagtail, 2 Egyptian Goose and several Black-headed Gulls.

In Marham I saw 1 Grey Squirrell with a redish coat!
