EXCITING DISCOVERY MADE

In 1912, Craig Crecelius made a curious discovery while plowing his field in Meade County, Kentucky.  He had unearthed a limestone rock slab, which evidently had tumbled down from a stony cliff located next to his field.  Odd characters were engraved on the face of the flat stone.  Crecelius immediately recognized he had made an important historical find.

For over 50 years, Crecelius fruitlessly sought the opinions of many as to the significance of the strange, runic-type script carved on the stone. Recently, it was discovered that the characters may be Coelbren, an ancient script used in Wales about 500 A.D.

Special thanks to Bett Etenohan, Naturalist at the Falls of the Ohio State Park, and to Dana Olson, author of Prince Madoc and the White Indians, for help in gathering information for this website.

I would also like to express my thanks to the librarians of the Charlestown, Indiana Public Library for their assistance during my numerous visits to photograph and examine the Brandenburg Stone.
