History of Bradstone Rovers F.C.

The club was formed in 1996 as CAMAS Sports and Social Club. This was because all the players and management worked for CAMAS Building Materials Ltd (Calne).

Our first ever tournament was the Calne Town Six-A-Side held in May 1996. Our "A" Team did not manage to qualify from the Group stages, The "B" Team fared a little bit better reaching the Quarter-Finals before being knocked out by Gladstone Liberal Club. This defeat was due to the large amounts of alcohol that the team drank between games. All in all a excellent day was had by all, and this inspired the Club Commitee to enter the Devizes and District Sunday Football League. We were unable to for the1996-97 Season and decided to enter the following season, in the mean time we appointed Dave Lowe as manager, Darren Morse as Secretary and Mick Taylor as Club Captain. We got sponsorship from CAMAS Building Materials Ltd and Sports Division (Bristol).

We entered into the League for the 1997-98 season in Division 2.

Our Home Ground was Calne Town F.C. Our Club Colours were (H) Blue Shirts/Blue Shorts/Blue Socks, (A) Maroon Shirts/Blue Shorts/Blue Socks.

On the 24th August 1997 we played our first game as CAMAS(Calne) Sports and Social Club against CAMAS(Derby) Sports and Social Club at Calne Town and won 5-3. Paul Bates being man of the match with 3 goals.

Our first game was against Drummerboys F.C. (Who's manager was the League Secretary). They were previous winners of the Division. So with this in mind we were not concerned with winning but, with limiting the score by which we lost. We ended up winning 4-3 with Paul Bates2,Warren Drake and Darren Webb (With the best goal ever scored in a CAMAS shirt). Everybody involved with the club could not believe the start to the season, but this all changed after 8 games we had only won once and had been outplayed and heavily beaten in the next 7 games. So the Club parted ways with Dave Lowe and Jon Roberts stepped into the breach for the remainder of the season. In his first game we won 13-1 against Munnellys. We never won a game after that and finished 12th out 13. We never made it out of the group stages of the Tamara Hinchley Shield or the first round in the Roundway Cup, John Strickland Memorial Trophy.

For the 1998-99 season we appointed Mick Taylor as Manager and proceeded to have our best ever season. We finished as Runners up to Imber United and made the Semi-finals of the Tamara Hinchley Shield losing to Black Horse(Devizes), and the Quarter-finals of the John Strickland Memorial Trophy losing to Select-a-book. Both teams were in the top half of Division 1. We had remained unbeaten for 18 games which is a Club Record.

At the end of the 1998-99 season the Club changed it's name to Bradstone Rovers F.C. and also lost the services of Mick Taylor as Manager and Darren Morse as Club Secretary, also the club decided to change League's and enter the Chippenham and District Sunday Football League which was successful. Darren Webb took over as Manager and John Edwards took over as Secretary.

The club's first game in Division 4 on 5th September1999 was against recently relegated and hot promotion favourites Old Lane United 'B', although putting up a brave fight we lost 4-2.  We finished 3rd in the Division (narrowly missing promotion) and also reached the Quarter-finals in 2 competitions, these being the Wiltshire Sunday Cup and the Eric Hughes Memorial Cup. The club moved from Calne Town to Goatacre during the season.

Darren Webb and John Edwards left the club at the end of the season both being replaced by Kelly Guy.

The 2000-01 season was declared null and void for the first time in the league's history due to the Foot and Mouth outbreak.

The 2001-02 season saw the return of Darren Morse who took over as Manager. The club had seen major changes in player personel after the previous season. Along with Darren the club also saw the return of the influential midfield player Chris Hehir from North Star and a number of young players. The club fared quite well until with 8 games to go, we moved down the table and losing a promotion place in the process. Holt F.C were outstanding in their first season.

The 2002-03 season saw the club equal the club unbeaten record until losing 5-1 in the Wiltshire Sunday Cup to George and Dragon (Salisbury). We also beat local rivals North Star 'A' 4-1 in the W.G Parr Trophy. We also gained promotion to the 3rd Division.

The 2003-04 season started well but we fell off the pace early in the season and found ourselves in a relegation battle, which we successfully achieved with 5 games to go.

During the close season the club suffered some massive changes to the playing personel, with the club's top goalscorer for the last 4 seasons (Alan Eades) leaving and a number of other players. Kelly Guy left the club and Chris Hehir took over as Secretary.

The 2004-05 season started so good with a 4-3 win over Pig and Whitle United, but this did not last and the slumped to worst run of defeats for 4 seasons. Darren Morse left and Martin Belcher was appointed Manager. The club have just managed to escape relegation again this season.
