Bradley MethodŽ Childbirth Classes

Christina Barkley's Natural Childbirth Education in Cedar Park & Austin, TX

My Birth Philosophy

This is how I see it:  women were created to be able to birth babies.  Simple as that.  My desire and hope for my students is that they get to the point where they completely and fully trust themselves, their bodies, and their babies in the natural birth process.  Birth really is an inherently safe process.  It has worked for hundreds upon thousands of years and it still works today.

I truly believe that if women today actually took the time to educate themselves on the natural labor and birth process, most -if not all- of their fear and anxiety would be replaced with confidence and excitement.  Moreover, I also believe that if couples researched and investigated the effects of medication on mom and baby used during labor, they would think twice before using them as their source for labor management.  There really are methods (comfort measures such as relaxation, massage, walking, change of position, etc.) that can help you confidently and successfully work with your labor.  The real key is to replace the anxiety and tension in your body and mind with knowledge and confidence.  And, of course, as with anything else in life, PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!  This is where your Bradley MethodŽ classes come in.  Over the weeks you attend classes, you will gain the tools you need to replace the anxiety and confusion that surround labor & birth.  You will be prepared!

No question about it - labor and birth can be difficult.  But, the satisfaction gained from knowing that you were able to give your baby the healthiest start to life is enough to motivate a mom through the hard parts of her labor.

All this is not to say that there are not genuine issues or emergencies that call for the need for medical help and intervention.  What a blessing to have the benefits of modern medicine today!  But, overall, for the vast majority of low-risk, healthy pregnant moms, there is no reason to automatically defer to a "medically managed" labor.  Why essentially give your labor over to a medical team without first deciding what YOU want for your birth experience?  Allow it to remain your and your partner's experience by trusting in yourself, your body and your baby.  By doing that, you will likely avoid feelings of helplessness and increase your self-esteem as you find yourself using your inner strength and knowledge to work through labor.

Above all, remember....THIS IS YOUR BIRTH....EDUCATE YOURSELF ON HOW TO MAKE IT YOUR OWN!
