SOME GYMPIE NEWS

  Gympie have a NEW Centenary Badge to celebrate their coming of 100 years age!  Contact them for details.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Scouting in the Gympie region celebrates 100 years of continuous scouting this year. To commemorate this event, the Moonga (Gympie) Baden Powell Guild has commissioned a special edition badge to celebrate the occassion.
The sales of this limited edition centenary badge will assist funding of the Moonga (Gympie) Baden Powell Guild’s Scouting Hall of Memories Centennial Museum project.
All badge collectors; Scouts and Leaders of the Scout Movement; and members of Baden Powell Guilds may now take advantage of obtaining a badge (or badges). If you want one of these badges, order as soon as possible – it is expected there will be a high demand for this historical badge.
The special embroidered badge in black and gold can be obtained by writing to:
The Secretary,
Moonga (Gympie) Baden Powell Guild
2 Main Street,
Gympie Qld 4570
Or contact:  Donald & Margaret Butler (07) 5482 5151 (E-mail:  dmb@spiderweb.com.au)
Cheques/Money orders should be made out to: Moonga (Gympie) Baden Powell Guild)
The badges are being sold at only $2.50 each. If return posting is required:
. . add 55c for 1-5 badges;
. . add $1.10 for 6-10 badges;
. . add $2.00 for orders in excess of 10 badges.
... for personal collection – contact the Secretary Donald Butler (07) 5482 5151
The main celebration day for the Centenary will be Saturday 3rd October in the Gympie Civic Centre. It is expected that Vice-Regal representation and State Scouting officials will be in attendance to celebrate the occasion and to officially launch a proposed two-volume book on the history of Scouting in the Gympie region. Entertainment is to be provided by this year’s Gang Show cast. A celebratory lunch will also be held.
More details will be made available shortly on:
1. A limited edition of only 100 framed presentations of a much larger centenary badge of similar design supplemented with special accompliments will also be available – the details are not yet available. The larger badges in this item will be exclusively specially numbered as a much sought after item of memorabilia. The specially framed versions number 1 and 100 will be auctioned at the centenary event on 3rd October.
2. Details and pricing of the proposed two-volume limited edition historical book recording all the histories and events over the past 100 years are not yet available. Persons wanting to obtain a copy should place their names on the pre-order list now to ensure they get a copy.
All correspondence in relation to items to be on sale should be directed to the Secretary at the address given earlier.
Please pass this information on to all persons interested in obtaining these historical items of memorabilia.
CHAIRMAN'S TALK
ISGF         AISG
  International Scout and Guide Fellowship         Amiti Internationale Scoute et Guide
Februaury message 2009
G'day all,
Wow, 3 months has gone since our last Talk. So much to say and so little space to write.  Your WCom has been proactive and we have opened all of the windows to blow some fresh air through the ISGF. Everything is up for review. By the end of our time you will see a well run tidy "Home".
Mario and his team have been busy tidying up our Constitution and updating our records with NSGF Constitutions.  Linda has been over to Haiti on an ISGF service project. Rigmor has been preparing our new image.  Muftah has been meeting with our members in the Arab Region. Harald has a draft for the plans on Young Adults recruitment and retention.  Anne has been updating our UNHCR working relationship.  The Secretary General has reviewed cost saving measures for the WB.  The rest of the WCom are working on Regional Development.
The new Website isn't it great!  Leny has been very busy transferring and updating files as well as uploading posts from around the world.  The front page will be updated every month with a new article, so log onto it regularly.  There are already texts on there in several languages.
These are mainly general information topics and you are invited to translate ISGF documents into your national language and send them to the WB for uploading.  Whilst Legal Documents will be in English first and then in French as per our Constitution and will be used as the official documents to work from, translations of these documents will only be viewed as giving an insight into the body of the Documents.  This is because not all languages have matching words or meanings.
The role of the International Secretary within the NSGF is an extremely important one.  As our documents are released in French and English, as per the Constitution, it is important that International Secretaries understand that it is part of their actions to translate these Documents into their NSGF's preferred language.
The cost of this action to be done at the WB would mean an increase in member fees and delay the posting out of the document by several weeks due to translating and proof reading.  So the WCom asks that the International Secretaries be proactive in this action either by translating the ISGF documents themselves or arranging for someone to do it for them.
Once they are translated fully, email a copy to the WB for posting on the website.   This is an important promotional action as a potential member visiting the ISGF site might be more motivated if they see Documents they understand.
The WCom is blown away by the pace in which Facebook has taken off.  Our ISGF page is now up to 900 members, most of whom are not ISGF members.   What this means is there are people in our Scouting and Guiding communities that are interested in what we do.   So they are now getting updates on what we are doing within the ISGF.  Ages range from young adults to not so young adults.  The personal stories they post makes interesting reading.
Congratulations to Spain and Italy who have started their own Facebook pages.  Facebook is a method of communication used by young people on a grand scale.  Our presence in this forum shows that we are moving with the times and relevant to the times.  So come on everyone, get your own NSGF Facebook happening.  Get the word out there.   Post your activities.
There are a few actions the WCom would like you to undertake with your National Facebook page.   First is that your introduction, which is in the national language, be translated into English, French, Spanish and Arabic as well.   Our aim is to show the Scouting and Guiding communities that we are a world wide organisation.   Then anyone visiting your page will have some idea of what it is about.
Next we would like you to list the ISGF and other NSGF pages in the "Related Groups" section.   Again this is so people can see our Fellowship is a well supported organisation.   Adding the ISGF website address will help get the word out.
Lastly, contact Ales on our WCom and inform him of your NSGF page and he will update our Related Groups section on the ISGF page.   Twinning of the 21st century.
The passing on of information.
Please send the WB information on what you are doing.   Let us inform the world of the activities you have coming up and the service work you have done.   India put in a report on its service work within the community and the United Kingdom joined in to assist in the service. Now that is Fellowship.   Team work. Scouting & Guiding.
Informing our ISGF members in some NSGFs seems to be a low priority and we are getting feedback that they are not being informed and updated on what is going on.   Is it possible that a local member send in say 4 stamp addressed envelopes to their NSGF that the NSGF could pass on this and other ISGF information?   Help local members who are not on email feel part of the world still.
The WCom Meeting is on next month so we shall be reviewing the WConf and 2008-2011 Action Plan.   If you have suggestions that might be of use or feel should be discussed please forward them to the WB.   We shall try to send out an agenda for everyone to see what is to be discussed and are planning to send out the Actions from it shortly after the WCom meeting.
Founders Day/Thinking Day is around the corner and the WCom wishes you a glorious day.
Oops, run out of page again.   Till next time.   May the sun be to your back and the breeze to your face.
Yours in Fellowship,
Brett D. Grant.
Chairman.
ISGF World Committee.
VALE
EV INWOOD & DAPHNE McMILLAN &
DON BOWLES
I advise the arrangements for the farwell to Ev Inwood from Toowoomba Trefoil Guild and Daphne McMillan from Rockhampton Trefoil Guild.   Please circulate this information to the members of your guilds/guiding. .
Mrs Ev Inwood is a well known and loved by many. She began her guiding life in 1956 in Toowoomba and this was the beginning of many years of leadership until her retirement from active guiding September 1985.   During that time Ev has staffed/attended many State, National and International events/trips.
On the1st August 1985 Ev joined Toowoomba Trefoil Guild where her memories and friendship continued to grow.   Ev attended many Qld T G Conferences and National Gatherings and was also an active member of Friends of Kindilan.
Ev was a support leader in the Toowoomba and Darling Downs Border Region and contributed much to guiding in her area and state. . Ev’s family invite you to attend her service to be held in Toowoomba on Friday 2nd October at Burstows T S Funeral Palour,1020 Ruthven Street... Please wear trefoil dress or guiding uniform if applicable.  Ev is missed by her many guiding/trefoil friends.   Go Well and Safely Ev.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Both Daph and Dudley McMillan have given an enormous contribution to Guides.  Daph was a leader and camper at the Coast for many years and was a strong worker towards the most impressive Burleigh Guide Hut.  Then they worked so hard for Kindilan through Claytons, culminating in their time as Caretakers for Kindilan.
They have both retained their interest and love of Kindilan through Friends of Kindilan and Daph has been a member of the Trefoil Guild in Rockhampton since March 2004 and prior to that was a member of the then Redlands T G from 2001.  Daphne served on Guides Qld Property Committee, Guide panel, served a term aw State Executive Commissioner and State Camping Committee.   Daphne will be missed by her many guiding friends. .

The family will hold a memorial service for her at the Burleigh Heads Uniting Church next Friday 2 October at about 11am. Details will appear in the Courier Mail on Wednesday 30 Sept.  Dudley will be pleased for everyone to attend. Please wear trefoil dress or guiding uniform if applicable.

Two wonderful women who were loved widely and will be missed greatly.   We acknowledge their contribution to guiding and trefoil.
