The B-P Guild Capricorn Sub-Branch Newsletter

Edition 1 August 2008

Fellow Members and interested persons

Welcome to the first newsletter of the newly formed BP Guild Capricorn Sub Branch.

What began as an idea after the 100 year Scout reunion has now taken it first tentative steps with the formation of a Guild in Rockhampton.

After a meeting at Ray Young’s house a committee was formed and the plans put in place for the investure of the members by Mal Cull [ State Guild Master ] and His Wife Brenda who Ray had meet in Brisbane while at the Gang Show weekend.

On the 2nd of August after our numbers had increased from 7 to 9 the investure took place. With the skill and daring that only past scouts and guides can muster flags were hung from the rotary cloths hoist and with fan fare supplied by a passing flock of geese and a 747 at 20000 feet the ceremony passed without incident. Everyone involved can now earn a badge on how to operate a digital camera

The committee is as follows:

President;        Raymond Young OAM
Vice President;         Mary Biles
Secretary;         Lance Watson
Treasurer;        Geoffrey Biles
Newsletter Editor & PR;       Daniel Oram
Quartermaster;          Mal Strack

Mal and Brenda Cull spoke to everyone about the guild and its aims and how to enjoy Fun, Food and Friendship [this is not listed in order of importance] and some of their past activities in the guild.

The best wishes from the Executive Committee BP Guild of Australia along with Southern Cross, Valley, Karawa, Allawah and Stephens Sub Branches was conveyed to everyone and a presentation of $100 from the State Guild was presented to Ray to help our sub branch get a head start. This was followed by the “ FFF “ a sausage sizzle, a couple of house whites, a desert tray to please any weight watcher and a good time meeting old and new friends.

Saturday 16th August: - This afternoon the Guild went on a tour of the Rockhampton Military Museum in the old 42RQR Barracks, the display of Scouting memorabilia was impressive and the Guild has undertaken to maintain the display and change it when required. Our thanks to Joe for the personal tour. The collection of effects from the conflicts that Australian service personal served in was of great interest and presented to a high standard and well worth a visit. The admission is free although a donation would be appreciated. Later we went to the Guide hut in Larnick St for our meeting and afternoon tea, a selection of sweets supplied by Mary & Ann went down very well [thank you both]. Thanks also to Margaret Hale and the Guides for allowing us to use their hut for our meeting.

We have arranged a program for the next few months and we would invite anyone interested in attending our functions or joining our group contact the Editor or Guild member, everyone is welcome for a good time.
