Bourton Buses

Buses serving the Greater Bourton area.

Welcome

This website is dedicated to the everyday bus scene in the City of Bourton, which is located to the south-east of Manchester.  There are a number of bus companies in the area such as City Bus, CityLynx and other well known companies.

This area may be familiar to those of you who have visited the Bourton High Street website.

History

Bus services in Bourton were provided by Bourton Corporation Services (BCS) until renaming in 1986 to Bourton Citybus.  The fleetname was always given as Citybus, legal lettering was Bourton Citybus.  Various operators provided services into the area over the years until many of these (Stockport, Hyde, Manchester) were merged to form SELNEC and later GM Buses.  GM buses suffered heavily from competition but still managed a unified network until the company was split into two, GM North (GMN) and GM South (GMS).  GMS was the operator into Bourton until privatisation saw it sold to Stagecoach.  City Lynx are a more recent operator and more detail is given about them on their section of this website.

Bus Wars

Since Deregulation in 1986 there have been numerous battles between the operators in Bourton.  Some operators have come and gone just as quick.  Some remnants of the past remain and every so often a new 'attack' may ensue.  At present Citybus, City Lynx and Stagecoach are competing over sections of the Bourton area.  Operators such as UK North may brief appearances in the area.  All adding to the colour of the area!
