Welcome ~to Sweet Summer's Boston Terriers~ Welcome

              Training for our puppies?

At SweetSummer's Boston Terriers, we believe that puppies are very quick learners, and that they start to learn from day one. Every day is like an open door, we don't like to let those early opportunities go by without taking advantage of them! We believe that by doing just a few simple things differently during their early developmental periods, We can help our puppies learn good habits that will benefit them throughout their lives and make training easier for them, and you!

We start to train our pups at around 3 and a half weeks of age using the Misty Method of training. We have found this to be the absolute best way to imprint our puppies for their future lives as indoor house pets and companions. Please follow the link to learn more about this method of training and why we use it. .

By the time your puppy comes home, it is already paper trained, and well on it's way to house training! You obviously have to keep up with training, as they still have a way to go. But they have a head start and have learned that clean is the way to be! Your puppy has also been exposed to the crate with and without the door on several times. It has learned that the crate is a nice place to rest and have quiet time. The crate is not feared or scary! It is viewed by the puppy as a sleeping place, and it will not soil it's sleeping, eating, or play area.

The Misty Method teaches our puppies that there is an area for sleep, and an area for eating, and an area for play, and an area for potty! We have very few accidents and the puppies learn very quickly. In the end it is so much easier to care for the pups this way because they are much cleaner and always potty in their designated area. Puppies who are brought up to live, sleep, play and potty in the same space are imprinted with that. Learning from day one that it is okay to be dirty and unclean, they carry that imprint for life and no amount of training can really change that. This is usually where you will run into problems with housetraining and many other behavioural issues.

As long as you keep up with our training methods, your puppy will be housetrained quickly and properly.

We also believe in early socialization. We always try to introduce the pups very gently to something new every couple of days. We always make this a positive experience! This helps them gain confidence and provokes curiosity and developes new Problem solving skills. It is really great to watch them learn and take in their environment. We know that everything we do, or don't do around the pups will effect their mental health and developement, so we keep that in mind with every bit of our daily routines.

We also feel that It is very important to allow the other dogs to help in raising the litter as soon as the dam will allow it. Our bitches often help eachother care for the puppies on their own without our instruction. (But never without our supervision!)

Our stud Dandy also has his place in bringing up the babies as does every member of our pack. This also gives the puppies a chance to socialize early with other dogs of all ages and personalities. Without the danger of contracting diseases from other areas outside the home.  This is another reason we do not believe in kenneling our dogs. We believe that it is much easier to socialize our puppies properly and to the very best of our ability when they are right there in our livingroom!  We take great pride in our puppies, and put our very best effort into raising each litter.  We also put just as much effort into choosing the right families for our babies.   When you take your puppy home it is up to you to keep up with the socialization and training we have started to ensure your pup grows into a well socialized and happy Boston Terrier. But  don't worry, we will be here to help you every step of the way! We have very good relationships with our puppy families!
