The Celtics Announce the Selection of Nate “Tiny” Archibald
On Thursday the Celtics took a step towards the playoffs. It was a big step but it came from a small foot. The Celtics came into the draft with the 3rd pick and having traded Carlos Sevillano for another pick, the team needed to find a replacement for the young point guard. After the selections of Julius Erving and Bob McAdoo the Celtics found their young PG. With the 3rd selection in the GlobalABCA draft, the Boston Celtics select Nate “Tiny” Archibald out of the University of Texas-El Paso. The UTEP product brings amazing handles and brings in great scoring from the point guard position. Nate, although only 6 feet tall, averaged 20 PPG in his last 2 seasons at UTEP and was also the WAC MVP and Honorable Mention All American in his senior season. Archibald brings outside shooting to the Celtics who are led by Dave Debusschere and Ray Felix and the inside presence they provide. Nate is usually the fastest man on the court and will get a lot of easy points for a struggling Celtics offense. Nate, along with the 3 other picks the Celtics have this season, should speed up the rebuilding process and get the Celtics into the playoffs in the next few seasons. Nate will wear #7 in a Celtics uniform and hopefully will have that number retired after his playing days are over.

The Celtics also had 3 other picks in the draft and they decided to build around the 3 players they see as the core. So with the 22nd selection, the Celtics drafted PF Dwight Davis out of Houston. Davis is a good complement to Felix down low and should compete for the PF spot depending on Free Agency. The 29th pick was Don Buse, or Boo as his friends call him. Buse will provide some solid ball handling and defense from the SG position and also shares a birthday with the Celtics GM. Buse is also a solid scorer inside and has the potential to become a solid starter for the Celtics.

The final pick for the Celtics was 35th overall, and with this pick the Celtics went after Dean Meminger the star PG at Marquette. Meminger is a great ball handler and will be the primary backup to Archibald as Robert Busnel will move back to the SG position. The Celtics will have cap space again this season, and are looking at Wilt and Elgin just like other teams, but the big splash will probably be made by getting the lower caliber impact players like they did last season with Carlos Sevillano. This is all from Madison Square Garden and this is Daniel Torres reporting from the GlobalABCA draft.
