The Boston Fan's Autograph Locker

Grabbin' Graphs Through the Mail

Hello, and WELCOME to my website. This is sort of my way to display my collection so that other people can check out what I have. Its also a way to make connections to other collectors for trading and general information.

I collect a lot of autographs through the mail, though I tend to go through dry spells when I don't send a lot of requests out. My first ever TTM autograph was Doug Drabek back in 1995. Since about 2004, I have received over 800 signed cards, and 500 signed index cards. My best successes to date are Sammy Sosa and Roger Clemens.

I am a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. I love to add new items of these teams to my collection any chance I've got. I am also working on a couple of projects, and I am absolutely looking to trade. I am working on signed items of the 1967 Red Sox, 1975 Red Sox, and soon to be 2001 Patriots. If you have anything I need, shoot me an email. You can check my progress on these projects using the link at the top titled "My Projects"

If you have any interest in trading, or see anything on my site you might want, be sure to send me an email at Allon_Porter@hotmail.com

I also do custom matting for photographs, cards of whatever, ask about that as well!!!

March 16, 2008

Hey everyone. I'm still here. I haven't updated in a long time because I haven't really sent anything out TTM... Here's what I've gotten back over the past few months, either through the mail or on ebay

Carl Yastrzemski Cache envelope (ebay)

Reggie Smith index card (ebay)

Graig Nettles signed 1978 Topps card (ttm)

Clay Carroll signed 1973 and 1974 topps cards (TTM)

I'm sure there are more.. I'm just forgetting.

I'm also looking to add new matting projects. Check out my custom framing link to see examples. Prices are always negotiable, so just email me to inquire.

Thursday, July 26

Sorry for the lack of updates. My TTM action has been seriously lacking. That isn't to say, though, that I haven't made some improvements to my collection. Here are the updates I NEED to give you guys.

Carl Yastzemski Lithograph . I bought this baby at auction. I think it's really a nice looking piece, and I know it will look great on my future Red Sox wall!!! I bought it from Sportsworld in Saugus, MA.

Danny Cater~ 24 Days c/o Home. Cater was a marginal Red Sox infielder during the early 1970's. Unfortunately the Red Sox traded Sparky Lyle to get him. His best years were for the A's and Yankees. He signed 2 topps cards and 2 index cards for me from his home address.

Bill Landis ~ 24 Days c/o Home. Chalk another one up to my 67 team set! I am now at approx 72%!! So close! He signed 1 index card for me, personalized, in a little over 3 weeks from his home address. If anyone can help me out with the rest of the '67 team, please let me know!

Two Trades have come in. I received a signed card of Tim Blackwell for my 75 Team set, and an IC of Norm Siebern for my 67 Team set! Keep those trades coming!!!

ALSO!!! I went to an in-person signing and grabbed Red Sox legend Jim Rice on my Fenway 8x10. He signed over the Green Monster in LF. Also on the pic are Joe Morgan (MGR), Boo Ferriss, Bill Lee, Jim Lonborg, Frank Malzone, Fred Lynn, Dom Dimaggio, and Bobby Doerr.

And now for the finale!!! My successes from the 2007 Red Sox Wives food drive!
Jonathan Papelbon, David Ortiz, Josh Beckett, and Dice-K Matsuzaka!

This is always a great event! These 4 autographs were well worth lugging 40 canned goods around. In past events, I have gotten other signed photos of Pedro Martinez, Derek Lowe, Curt Schilling, Papelbon, Beckett, Ortiz, Todd Walker, and Kevin Millar!

Thanks for visiting the site. I hope to make many more updates to come! Sorry for the long breaks between!

Thursday, June 14

SORRY FOR NO UPDATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will hopefully be adding more pictures soon! I haven't been doing any TTM lately, but I have had some nice additions to my collection. Here's a list of what I got:

Frank Robinson ball signed on the sweet spot - PSA/DNA certified, won on ebay for $30

Dwight Evans game used bat! I won this at a local auction. Its a really unique piece, and I am psyched to add it to my collection

In the mail I received back an 8x10 and card signed by former Red Sox lefthanded ace Mel Parnell. He signed each in thin blue sharpie.

I also received two cards back from former Sox 2B, Denny Doyle. Another great addition to the 1975 team set! Really psyched to get it back after like 5 months!

I also received a very generous gift from AJ of SCN! He sent me signed index cards of former Impossible Dream members Rico Petrocelli, Bob Tillman, and Joe Foy! Absolutely unbelievable... it also puts me up over 60% for the entire roster! Perhaps this summer I'll be able to finish the team, and start working on its frame!

I am looking for any index cards of the '67 team, and cards of the '75 team. If you have any I need, PLEASE email me. You can check my progress under the link "My Projects" at the top of this page.

My email address is Allon_Porter@hotmail.com

Wednesday, May 16

Well, I haven't updated in quite a while. I am still here though. I just haven't sent very many requests out lately. Hopefully that will pick up sometime this summer. Anyways, here are the requests!

Paul Molitor~ 270 Days c/o Twins ~ To say the least, this one was a surprise. I sent it back in August, but received it today! Paul Molitor, the Hall of Famer, signed a Greats of the Game card for me. Awesome signature on my favorite set to get signed! Completely unexpected! Success of the year so far!

Joe Rudi ~ 100 Days c/o Home ~ Joe Rudi was a power-hitting outfielder for the great Oakland A's teams of the 1970's. He signed 3 cards for me in 100 days. Two of which are awesome sets to get signed... '73 and '74 Topps.

Mark Pavelich ~ 84 Days c/o Home ~ After a long drought, I've finally added another member of the 1980 USA Hockey team! Pavelich signed 3 index cards for me! This brings me to 36% of the team!

Ken Holtzman ~ 81 Days c/o Home ~ Holtzman was one of the best pitchers in all of baseball in the late 60's and early 70's. He too was a famed member of the Oakland A's teams of the 70's. His signature is but a scribble, but its still cool to add him to the old collection. Seriously, everyone should jump on the old A's bandwagon. A lot of players from those great teams are awesome signers TTM!

Don Nelson ~ 50 Days c/o Golden State ~ Nelly signed one index card for me in 50 days from the Warriors team address. He is another Celtics retired number to add to my collection!

Al Downing ~ 50 Days c/o Home ~ Downing, of course, gave up Hank Aaron's 715th homerun. He signed 2 vintage topps cards (73 and 74) for me!

Tracy Stallard  ~ 44 Days c/o Home ~ Tracy Stallard was an up and coming rookie for the Red Sox in 1961. On the last day of the season, he faced Roger Maris in what is now one of the most famous at bats in history. Maris, of course, knocked one of Stallard's pitches out of the park for his 61st homer. Mr. Stallard signed 3 ICs for me, and an Archives card of Maris' 61st homer! Very cool!

George Thomas  ~ 44 Days c/o Home ~ George Thomas was a member of the '67 Impossible Dream Red Sox. He nicely signed 3 ICs for my collection. He also inscribed them! That brings me up to 58.8% of the team.

I also received an Ebay item. I purchased a signed ball by Hall of Famer Frank Robinson! The sig is in mint condition, and came with a COA from PSA/DNA. I will post a scan in the future!

Wednesday, April 25

Finally a success!!!

Reggie Cleveland~ 66 Days c/o Home ~ Reggie Cleveland was a starter/reliever for the Red Sox in the mid-70s, including a 13-9 record for the 1975 Red Sox. He signed some vintage cards for me, including a Red Sox card, which I needed for my '75 team set.

Doug Griffin ~ TRADE ~ I was able to add Doug Griffin to my 75 team set via a trade on SCN with Mike. I sent him a Bill Mueller signed card in exchange for this. It now brings me up past 56% for the entire team!

I know I haven't been updating much recently. It's because I haven't sent much out. I am focusing a little more now on completing my two team sets, and collecting HOF autographed baseballs, so I'm saving some of my money up. If anybody has any signed baseballs to sell or trade, please email me at Allon_Porter@hotmail.com. Let's see if we can work out a trade!

Friday, April 20

Hey, I just wanted to put it out there that I'm looking for the following HOF signed baseballs. I plan on purchasing some from the players themselves, but I would love to work out trades, or purchase from fellow collectors, (if the price was right)

Nolan Ryan ($55 thru site)

Johnny Bench ($40 thru site)

Frank Robinson

Luis Aparicio

Orlando Cepeda

Pete Rose

Rollie Fingers ($8 donation)

Gaylord Perry ($15 donation)

Carlton Fisk

Dennis Eckersley

and anyone deceased.

Thursday April 19

Don Demeter  ~ 20 Days c/o Home ~ Another member of the '67 Impossible Dream team. He signed 2 ICs for me in 3 weeks. His signature is quite messy, but I think I can pick a "meter" out of the end of it!

John Mackey  ~ 23 Days c/o Home ~ Despite his disability, Mr. Mackey signed a couple ICs for me from his home. He was the revolutionizing influence on the Tight End position in football, making it a receiving position as well as blocking. He included one of the ICs, "You will score big in life. I am blocking for you (winner)"

Sparky Lyle  ~ trade ~ Another SCN member hooked me up in a trade. This member was able to get two Sparky Lyle autographs at a Somerset Patriots fanfest! He signed one index card, for my '67 collection, and a Yankees card, as part of my Cy Young Award collection! Awesome!! MANY THANKS TO THAT MEMBER!!!

I am now at 55% for the '67 team. If anybody has any members that I do not already have on index cards, PLEASE EMAIL ME!!! Allon_Porter@hotmail.com

1 success today

Jim Landis ~ 17 Days c/o Home ~ Jim Landis was a reserve outfielder for the 1967 Red Sox for a very short time. He signed 3 index cards, inscibing one with "1967 Impossible Dream" This success brings me up to having 50% of the entire '67 team!

One link to share with you guys today. Brian's Red Sox Autos is a pretty cool site, featuring the Sox. He has some really cool stuff! Check it out!

I'm also looking to make some trades. E-mail me if you would like to see my tradelist, or email me anything you collect. Maybe we can work something out. Allon_Porter@hotmail.com

Friday, April 13

Well, Friday the 13th was not bad luck for my mailbox! Check out today's awesome successes!

Gene Tenace ~ 48 Days c/o Home in OR ~ Gene Tenace was the MVP of the 1972 World Series, when he hit .348, with 4 homers and 9 RBIs. The former A's slugger and All-Star signed 3 vintage cards for me in about a two months. I love the way the '74 Topps cards look!

John Madden~ 28 Days c/o Home ~ I was very happy to see this new HOF member in my mailbox today! He is known best by my generation for being an excellent announcer. Before his days in the TV booth, of course, he was an excellent coach for the Oakland Raiders. He signed my HOF card in 1 month.

Dalton Jones ~ 14 Days c/o Home ~ Another '67 Sox team member to add to my collection. Jones put up a .289 average for the '67 season.

Russ Gibson ~ 14 Days c/o Home ~ Again, another member of the 1967 Red Sox signed for me, bringing my total up to 47% of the entire team! Mr. Gibson responded by signing two of my index cards, and answering a question on the back of my letter. He wrote: "Thanks for asking. I hit a 3-run homer against the Yankees and we won 3-1. Good luck with your autographs!"

Steve Blass ~ 11 Days c/o Home ~ Steve Blass was an excellent pitcher during the late 60's and early 70's. He was the star pitcher for the Pirates in the 1971 World Series. He signed an 8x10, and card for me. He inscribed the 8x10 with the following statistics "1971 World Champs. 2 Shutouts (#3 & #7). 2 Complete Games. 18 Innings. 2 Runs. 7 Hits" Now that is a great line for a WS!!!

Wednesday, April 11

4 more members of the '67 Impossible Dream in today!!! I am now at 41% for the whole team!

Jerry Stephenson ~ 12 Days c/o Home ~ Stephenson was a rookie in '67, and signed a couple ICs for me in black pen

Darrell Brandon ~ 10 Days c/o Home ~ Another member of the '67 Impossible Dream Red Sox in today. Mr. Brandon signed 1 trading card, and 2 index cards for me. He won 5 games for the '67 ball club. He signed my 8x10 and inscribed it "1952 AL MVP" He also signed a trading card I had included! The signature is in bold blue sharpie, and will look FANTASTIC framed!

The 8x10 I used for this is an example of the digital pictures I have for printing your own 8x10s. Check out what pictures I have here ->  8x10s for Sale

Anibal Sanchez  ~ 37 Days c/o Marlins ST ~ The Marlins star righthander signed 1 of 2 cards in a little over a month from the Marlins spring training site. My ST sendout was small, but has been relatively successful!

Dick Green  ~ 22 Days c/o Home ~ Dick Green was a member of the famed Oakland A's teams of the early to mid 1970s. Those teams have some really great signers on them. He signed two cards for me, and a couple index cards. One of the cards, a 1974 Topps Team card was already signed by pitcher John "Blue Moon" Odom. I will soon send it off to team manager Dick Williams.

Bob Turley  ~ 10 Days c/o Home ~ "Bullet Bob" Turley was a former All-Star pitcher for the New York Yankees. He won the 1958 Cy Young Award while pitching the Yankees to the World Series title that year. He signed an 8x10 for me, and inscribed it "Cy Y. 1958"

Billy Rohr  ~ 8 Days c/o Home ~ Billy Rohr is another in for my 1967 Red Sox collection. He had one of the most famous starts in Red Sox history in 1967. In his 1st major league start, Rohr went 8 2/3 no-hit innings against the Yankees. With two outs in the 9th, and two strikes on the batter, Elston Howard ripped a single to right to break up the no hit bid. "There are 8 hits in the ball game, and all of them belong to the Red Sox"~Ken Coleman.

Also a trade in from an SCN member. I was able to get a signed card of Sox pitcher Roger Moret .

Friday, April 6

1 Trade in today.

Jose Tartabull  - I received an index card signed by Tartabull from Phil of Philly's Sigs By Mail. Jose Tartabull was an outfielder for the 1967 Impossible Dream Red Sox. I now have 8 members of that team on index cards, good for 23%!

I am also putting up for sale some 8x10 files I have on my computer. I have about 40 files, that can be printed on your home computer, or using a site like Snapfish.com. I will sell each file for $0.50 each. Check the link at the top to see what players I have available.

Guys, I need your help. In what ways can I improve this site? Any ideas for additional sites? Of the sites I have made, which ones are a waste? Any info to make this a better place with more information, just let me know by e-mailing me at Allon_Porter@hotmail.com

Finally, I have received many e-mails for matting projects. Still working to finalize those. Keep the ideas coming though. Feel free to e-mail me if you even want to just ask about it!!!

Greg Luzinski~ 30 Days c/o Home ~ Luzinski was one of the greatest sluggers of his era, playing for the Phillies and White Sox. In 1977, Luzinski slugged 39 homers, knocked in 130, and batted .309! He signed 4 cards nicely in blue sharpie from his home.

Milt Schmidt ~ 4 Days c/o Home ~ This old-time hockey legend signed one index card from his home in Westwood, MA. He was a member of the 1939 Stanley Cup winning Boston Bruins. Another great Boston legend to add to my collection!

Please e-mail me at Allon_Porter@hotmail.com to inquire. Prices are negotiable to be fair to both sides. I will also be willing to discuss trades for projects. If you have any ideas of what you want done, e-mail me and we can see if we can get it going. Check the CUSTOM MATTING link at the top of the page to check out examples of my work. Saturday, March 24

I'm still working on a new system for the site. I will be scanning pictures from the last couple weeks to put up. Sorry that it's taken so long! I will try to do a larger update tomorrow, to report the successes I've had while the site was frozen! Here are my successes for the last couple of days, though.

Bernie Carbo ~ 28 Days c/o Home ~ This is the third time I've sent to Mr. Carbo. In my previous two attempts, he has kept my Red Sox card, and returned a card from another team. This time though, he returned my 1978 Topps signed in blue sharpie! Carbo is best remembered for his pinch home run in the 8th inning of Game 6 of the 1975 World Series. His shot tied the game at 6-6, paving the way for Carlton Fisk's shot in the 12th!

Lee Stange ~ 8 Days c/o Home ~ Lee Stange was a member of the 1967 Impossible Dream Red Sox. I sent to him, as I am starting to form together a nicely framed piece about that team. He signed the 74 Topps card I sent, along with two notecards. In addition, he added a Pawtucket Red Sox minor league card of himself! Very nice! He even corrected an error in the stats on the back!

Randy Gumpert ~ 8 Days c/o Home ~ Randy Gumpert is now remembered for serving up the first home run in Mickey Mantle's career. He signed 3 notecards for me, and inscribed one with, "Mantle's 1st ML HR, 5-1-51." I am putting together a piece for Mantle, and now have his 1st, and 500th homerun pitchers with inscriptions. Next comes his 536th (Jim Lonborg). I plan to mat all three together with Mantle's HOF plaque. Should turn out really neat.

I'm also still looking to take on matting projects for people. I've added pictures to my "Custom Matting" page. Please e-mail me if you are at all curious, and we can talk about what you want to do. See if we can work something out!

Sunday, March 18

Well, my site was frozen by Freewebs for like 10 days because there was too much traffic and bandwith usage. But I'm back and will be updating in the next couple days. I've had some great successes, like Trot Nixon, Tadahito Iguchi, Raymond Berry, and Gino Marchetti.

I'll also need to change the format of the site a little, as the many pictures I put up was a reason for the freezing. I will most likely include a link for all my successes!

Thursday, March 8

Rob McClanahan ~ 15 days c/o Home in MN ~ McClanahan was another main contributor to the 1980 USA Gold Medal hockey team. He signed a notecard beautifully in pen, and added his number and USA 1980. I've added him to my projects page.

Merv Rettenmund ~ 12 Days c/o Home AZ ~ Merv Rettenmund was an excellent role player for the Orioles of the late 60's and early 70's, as well as the Reds in the mid-70's. He batted .322 in 1970, and .318 in 1971. He was also on the 1971 AL All-Star Team. He signed 3 cards for me in 12 days from his home. One of those cards was a 1971 Topps playoff card, previously signed by Paul Blair.

Tuesday, March 6

Stu Miller ~ 10 Days c/o Home ~ Stu Miller was a standout relief pitcher for the Cardinals, Giants, and Orioles in his major league career. He was an All-Star in 1961. He is also the pitcher that served up Mickey Mantle's 500th homerun. He even inscribed a notecard referring to that event. He signed a card and a few index cards in 10 days from his home in CA.

I have sent a few off to spring training, hoping to add a couple new signatures to my collection. I'd love to hear back from anyone who had some great grabs from spring training!

Saturday, March 3

5 Successes today, including the success of the year so far!

Herb Score ~ 20 Days c/o Home ~ Mr. Score signed 2 of 3 cards nicely in thin blue sharpie. Score, the 1955 American League Rookie of the year was superb in his first two seasons in the major leagues, setting a rookie record for strikeouts in '55. He also won 20 games in 1956. After that, however, he was hit in the head by a line drive, and was never able to regain his effectiveness again.

Jack O'Callahan ~ 8 Days c/o Home ~ Jack O'Callahan was one of the leaders of the 1980 USA Hockey Gold Medal team. He was injured in the preliminary USSR game before the Olympics, and was therefore only able to play sparingly during the games themselves. 4 more successes!

Mr. Gutteridge signed the index cards I sent to him, but surprised me exceptionally by sending me a card of his own, and a signed computer photo of him in a Red Sox uniform!!!

Carl Erskine ~ 13 Days c/o Home ~ Carl Erskine is another of the greatest signers out there. He is very generous. He was also a great pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1950's. He signed the 3 cards I included, and responded to a question I asked in my letter. Really neat!

One of the cards, celebrating the Orioles 1970 playoffs, has since been sent to Merv Rettenmund to also be signed.

Don Larsen ~ 15 Days c/o Home ~ Don Larsen is famous simply for throwing the only no-hitter in the history of the postseason! He threw a PERFECT GAME in the 1956 fall classic against the Brooklyn Dodgers, earning him MVP honors for the series. Mr Larsen signed 3 cards, for me, and sent along a pricelist for various items. Some great deals. E-mail me if you'd like to know what they are.

Darold Knowles ~ 14 Days c/o Home ~ Darold Knowles was a relief ace, along with Rollie Fingers for the vaunted Oakland A's teams of the early-to mid 1970's. Although arm trouble ended Don's career early, he did put up some fantastic numbers. He signed 2 cards for me and a couple index cards as well.

Ned Garver ~ 16 Days c/o Home ~ Mr. Garver was an All-Star pitcher for the St. Louis Browns and Detroit Tigers. He wrote me a nice note (pictured below) talking a little about Ted Williams, about whom I just finished reading a biography. He also pointed me towards purchasing his book, "Touching All The Bases." If you are interested in purchasing an autographed copy, E-mail me and I will send over the address/phone number for ordering.

Bobby Thomson ~ 16 Days c/o Home ~ Bobby is most famously known for his "Shot Heard Round the World" in the 1951 playoff game with the Brooklyn Dodgers. His homerun brought the Giants the N.L. Pennant. He signed 3 cards and a couple index cards for me in 2 weeks. He has always been a very gracious signer.

Andy Pafko ~ 14 Days c/o Home ~ Mr. Pafko was a member of some very famous teams, including the 1945 Chicago Cubs and 1951/52 Brooklyn Dodgers. He wrote a note saying his greatest thrill was hitting a grand slam with his mother in the stands. He also signed 2 cards and 2 index cards for me.

Eddie Kasko ~ 13 Days c/o Home ~ Eddie Kasko is a former scout and manager of the Boston Red Sox. He managed the team in the early 1970's. He signed a '74 Topps team card, one of the teams he managed. He also signed a couple index cards for my collection.

Bill Campbell ~ 12 Days c/o Home ~ Always a reliable signer, Mr. Campbell misplaced a couple cards I sent him last year. I resent to him this time around, and he signed 3 cards for me in 2 weeks. I am really glad to add him to my collection. He was a fantastic relief pitcher for both the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins before that. He once won 17 games out of the bullpen for the Twins.

Mike Vrabel~ 3 months c/o New England Patriots ~ One of the best players on the Patriots signed a Super Bowl XXXIX 8x10 in about 3 months from the team address. I am psyched to get this back, as I thought it was lost forever. What a great addition to the Patriots collection! Eddie Yost ~ 3 Days c/o Home ~ Mr. Yost played in the 1950's for the Washington Senators. Known as the "Walking Man" because of his high walk totals. This is another addition to that collection! Mr. Luscutoff added his years with the Celtics.
