- In the Beginning ..............

A new parcel has arrived, but before we open it  .................  some historical data -

Lenco developed the L59, the first heavy platter Lenco, based on their successful light platter B51.  However, they sold it originally without arm, in this Goldring price list (dated April 1960) the 'GL59 Unit without pick-up'.  Goldring fitted their popular G60 arm, and named it the GL60.  It is probable that the first heavy platter Lenco that customers could buy, ready to play, was the GL60.  When Lenco released the 59 with Lenco arm, Goldring carried the GL59 on, now with arm, and discontinued the GL60.  This gives the GL60 a special place in Lenco history, and because of it's short lifespan the GL60 is not only special but very rare.

So here it is, the elusive GL60.  In need of tlc, but all important components are intact.

The speed change plate is plastic, on later models this is changed to alumiium.  At LencoLand the picture of the GL60 has no scratch plate under the on/off switch, but this one has a black rounded-triangle scratch plate.

There are many 'first tries' under the bonnet, making this look a little like a prototype.  Notice the green paint on the Lenco screws, and the red paint on the Goldring screws for the arm collar.

This is another deck owned and refurbished by Martin, so as usual the end result is superb ..............
