The Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss

"I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.
My name is Kvothe.  You may have heard of me. "

This is quite simply one of the best fantasy books I have ever read.  Amazing characterisation, gripping storyline, coupled with an interesting world and magic system make this a must read for any true fans of fantasy.  The only negative is the long wait for a sequel!!  Currently due out in the April of 2008, The Wise Man's Fear will continue the story of Kvothe and I, for one, cant wait to find out what happens next.

Gardens of the Moon - Steven Erikson

The first in the epic Malazan book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson.  This series quite simply gets better as it goes on, with some of the most involving and complex plot I have ever seen.

With the entire series in brand new jackets and the first book at the startling price of £3.99, now is the perfect time to get lost in the Tales of the Malazan book of the Fallen.

Complete Chronicles of Conan - Robert E.Howard

Too many people only know Conan from the awful Arnie movies, and they are missing out on a legend.  The opening paragraph (page 25 if you can get a chance to look!) both creates a world and sends a shiver down your spine with only a few lines.

Conan and his world are both complex and deep, with a quality of prose you simply do not find in modern fantasy.  I urge everyone, genre fan or not, to read this - a classic in every sense of the word.

Necronomicon - H.P Lovecraft

H.P Lovecraft is one of the founders of modern horror.  His work has become so well known that stories are still written today either heavily influenced by, or set entirely within the Cthulhu mythos which has sprung up around his stories.  This is amazing leather bound edition collects all of Lovecrafts horror tales and also contains some exceptional art work.  This is an amazing book, especially considering it only costs £16! (reduced from £20 for a limited time)

World Of Darkness - Innocents

Full rules for playing a child character in the world of darkness setting.  Using a slightly modified World of Darkness system this is actually a self contained book, not requiring the W.O.D rulebook to play, although it is fully integratable with all pre-existing W.O.D systems.

Exalted - The Abyssals

Exalted using Solar essence corrupted by their slain Primordial masters, the Neverborn, these twisted reflections of the Solar Exalted serve one purpose, to destroy creation.

This sourcebook contains all the rules needed to play one of the twisted Abyssal Exalted, including new charms and Necrotech, a dark necromantic version of magitech.  A copy of the Exalted rulebook is still required for play.

The Lies of Locke Lamora - Scott Lynch

Following the exploits of Locke Lamora and his gang of thieves and con-artists, the Gentleman Bastards, this is an excellent fantasy novel which offers something truly unique and orignal.  The sequel, Red seas under red skies, is equally entertaining, and two more books are due from Lynch in this series over the next year.  The Bastards and the Knives, a compillation of prequel novels, is due in the winter of 2008, with the next in the series, Republic of Thieves, to follow at the beginning of 2009.

Elric of Melnibone - Michael Moorcock

The father of modern fantasy, Michael Moorcock was one of the first authors to steer away from the Tolkienesque simplistic black and white, good and evil and bring in more complex conflicted characters.  Of all of the reality spanning tales of the Eternal Champion, Elric is probably my favourite incarnation, Last Emperor of a depraved inhuman race, a weak blooded albino who must rely upon arcane concoctions or the soul devouring power of his cursed sword to keep him alive.  This is an awesome series and this book collects many of the Elric tales into one volume.

Horus Heresy

Having reached an age where I can't waste, sorry devote, that much time to painting little men, I can at least satisfy my sci fi cravings with this series from The Black Library.

Set in the Warhammer universe, 10000 years before current events, it describes in bloody detail the schism that left the Human Imperium in tatters.

Age of Legends

The Age of Legends series intends to due for the Warhammer world what the Horus Heresy series has done for the 40K universe, and if Heldenhammer is anything to go by then its making a good start.  Heldenhammer follows a young Sigmar and his goal to unite the tribes of humanity into the Empire, this is to be followed by Nagash the Sorcerer in september with further titles to follow, definately a series to watch.

Elric - Stealer of Souls

Last mad emperor of a decadent and depraved race, Elric is the most tragic of all of Michael Moorcocks incarnations of the Eternal Champion.  This new series of imported American titles will compile all of the Elric tales into new illustrated versions, making it far easier to track down the entire Elric chronicles, a feat which has proved very difficult in the past

Hunter - The Vigil

White wolf have well and truly delivered with this, the latest game line in the World of Darkness.  This is the most comprehensive system to date, offering rules ot include all of the other supernaturals as antagonists without having to access the othe core books is a very nice touch.  Hunter also seems to offer the most varied choice in types of game in any NWOD title released so far, with three tier choices of games to play, and every Hunter group offering a completely different type of game and Hunter there is definately a lot to do here, and something for all fans of the World of Darkness.
