BORDER COLLIE SOLILOQUY

THE THOUGHTS OF A BORDER COLLIE

My Girl Charly

It's with great sadness I have to say Charly left us to go to the bridge. She was loved by everyone who crossed her path.

The Love of my Life

Charly Girl, she always looks at me this way

I took her on a Date to the Beach

      Taking it easy

Meet Charlygirl...........She's a real doll! She thinks she has me wrapped around her little dew claw, but I  know how to handle her,..........I love her to pieces, we had babies together..........

You should have seen Cathy's face when she came through the door and caught us. Of course it was all Johns fault,........... We boys always get the blame. Cathy had been so careful to keep us apart, she even had Charly wearing knickers! Can you believe that! keeping us seperate when they went out, It was'nt easy I can tell you!

Anyway I got my chance one day when John came home and let Charly out, forgetting we had to be kept  apart. Well, A dog has to do what a dog has to do and Charly was so irrisistable.

So there we were tied together in the hallway (very romantic) and who should walk in??..........Yes, you guessed it,...........Cathy!

Nine weeks later we had five beautiful babies. Four looked like me and one just like Charlygirl. I had to wait a little while before I was introduced to them, but I felt so proud.

All the puppies where found nice homes which were vetted thoroughly before Cathy would allow them to go

CHARLY'S NEW HOME

Charlygirl was the first to come and live with John and Cathy after Chester went to Rainbow Bridge. They didn't want to replace Chester, but wanted another  red & white Border Collie, so this time they went to Windsor Championship Dogshow to speak to Border Collie breeders. They were introduced to Irene Cutt (Westirene) who told them she had a rescue girl of her's that had come back to her after a marriage break-up, or rather the owners had put poor Charly into a dogs home. As the rescue center had also been given her breed papers they were able to contact Irene who went to pick her up and take her home.

So John and Cathy arranged to go to Southampton to see Charly (Tara as she was known then) of course they couldn't resist her charm, she was 13 months old the same age Chester was when they lost him just five weeks earlier. No one really knows what Charly's first year was like but she was so cautious of everything and didn't like raised voices, but she soon overcome that and settled in well.

CHARLYGIRL GOES MISSING.

We lived in Windsor Berkshire, up until moving to Shevington in Lancashire in March 2003. The week before we where all due to move Charly went missing! The three of us had gone into the garden for the last visit of the night, Trooper and I came back in but not Charly, she was one for mooching about so it wasn't anything unusual. John was walking around the garden but she could'nt be seen anywhere.

It was 11.30pm totally pitch black, half the night was spent searching for her,....... they came home and me and Trooper ran to the door, no Charly! We lived out in the country and she could have been anywhere, but it wasn't like her to go off and not return, I was missing her already I knew something was wrong I could feel it.

The next morning John and Cathy set off looking for her again. They had phoned the police, dog warden and council. We are all microchipped and wear ID tags so maybe someone would find her and return her, they came back later that day, still no Charly! Cathy printed off some posters and they were put up in the area, then I went tracking across the fields and forest with them to see if I could pick up her scent but still nothing, where had she gone? Two days had passed now, I was missing her so much I went very quiet and off my food, Trooper didn't seem to realise the seriousness of it, but I had been with Charly since I was a little puppy and I wanted her back!

Day three. Charly had been sighted with a man walking around the area! We went searching in the direction he had been and all the posters got changed and a discription of the man who had been seen with her added plus a reward. The next day there is a phone call, from a girl who lived in Brighton! She tells John her boyfriend has Charly and he is taking her to Southend with him, she doesn't want the dog so if we want her back we better move quick as he was leaving the following morning. We were told where Charly was. It was so close to us it was unbelievable, she was up a lane half a mile up the road from us on a farm. Some fairground travellers where staying there. John ran straight up there and a man was standing holding Charly. He gave the same story as the girl, he said take the dog before the man who had stolen her comes back, here ID tags had also been removed. Oh it was so good to see her! I didn't care is she was filthy dirty and smelly, my Charly had come home!

Cathy was still out searching and her phone was dead so she had'nt heard the news. She arrived home just as Irene from Southampton came up the drive, Irene was also very concerned and had travelled all the way up to help us. What a happy day for all of us! We had My Girl back...............
