VEHICLES STILL NEEDED!!!
“Books for
Africa
” is a biannual venture aimed at
distributing textbooks and journals, of Veterinary interest, to Veterinary
faculties in a number of African countries, where these commodities are in great
need. It is made possible by the
donation of books from international benefactors and the Academic Information
Centre of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Onderstepoort as well as the
students who embark on the journey in order to deliver them.
African countries that are going to be visited include
Botswana
,
Zambia
,
Malawi
,
Zimbabwe
and
Mozambique
.
The aims of Books for Africa 2004/5 are broadly defined:
-
To
ensure the safe delivery of these veterinary journals, textbooks and CDs to
the veterinary faculties to the north.
-
To
position
South Africa
as a leading country with regards
to veterinary science as well as to promote the our Faculty
of Veterinary Science as an
institute of academic excellence internationally.
-
To
promote the relations between the different African Veterinary faculties.
-
To serve as a medium for publicity to various sponsors and companies.
To
achieve these goals the project will be during June and July 2005,
starting at Onderstepoort, going north into Botswana.
The precise route is described elsewhere.
Books
for Africa have, over the last decade, proved to be a highly successful
instrument for the achievement of some of the above mentioned goals. We are
planning to build on the historical successes, and in doing so, make a
substantial contribution to veterinary science.
