Leaving a harmless wiccan mark attributed to European Wiccan groups on the hands of the children, and then appearing to members of the community in the forms of the children, the demon led to chaos and persecution of those believed to be involved in witchcraft. The demon thrived on this energy and therefore simulated the same crime in a different community every 50 years, as far back as 1649. In 1999, the demon tried to do this in Sunnydale. Just in time, however, Giles was able to lift the veil that the demon created and reveal its true form. Buffy then slayed him, but not before Amy turned herself into a rat to escape persecution.
