Welcome to Year 6

First session

Clwb Coginio Cwl had its first session on Wednesday 12th November. The after school club is aimed at teaching children how to cook healthy food, using good hygiene and safety when preparing food. All the children involved had a lot of fun making fajitas and trying new foods such as guacamole and salsa! Next week.........Apple Spice Muffins!!!

Second Session

Clwb Coginio Cwl decided to try a new healthy recipe in their second session on the 19th November 2008. The children remembered the importance of hygiene and safety and were clearly up for a new challenge! We decided to make ‘Apple Spice Muffins’ (which was a recipe sent to us by Gary Rhodes).  All the children involved had a lot of fun making the muffins and learnt lots of new skills; separating eggs, measuring, weighing and mixing. The smell of the muffins cooking was delicious! Unfortunately, they did not live up to expectation. This was disappointing, but all the children agreed that they had learnt a lot and they would chalk this one up to experience!

Third Session

Clwb Coginio Cwl went all Italian in their third session on 26th November 2008 and made 'La Pizzas'. Everybody was very excited about our recipe this week and very keen to get started on this yummy snack. We created our own tomato sauce and chose our favourite toppings from a varied selection. Every week we try to eat something new and this week we all gave olives a taste test,  although most of us agreed that they are an acquired taste and left Miss Thomas to finish them off!! (She loves Olives!) The smell of the pizzas cooking was delicious and we were not let down this week, they looked fabulous and they tasted even better. Well done Clwb Cognio Cwl !

Spring term!

Eight new children have been chosen for the 'Clwb, Coginio, Cwl' this term.

We have repeated a few recipes from last term because they were so successful!

We have made pizzas, fajita's and delicious Honey nut flapjacks in honour of Comic relief! - these were a favourite!!!

Our last two sessions will be a savoury and sweet treat!

We will be making delicious cheese scones and Easter biscuits

(with icing of course!)

We have focused on creating a range of dishes that require traditional cooking methods, which all children need to learn. We have also focused on creating balanced dishes, in which all the food groups that are necessary for a balanced diet are apparent.

'Clwb, Coginio, Cwl' has been a fantastic success and yet again these sessions will be repeated in the Summer term with different children!

SUMMER TERM

'Clwb, Coginio, Cwl' has started again!

Eight different children have been chosen to participate in this 'Skills based' Healthy Eating club. We are repeating the same recipes in the main, but have changed some things.

We are involving the community in our club, by asking a few members from local group 'Merched y Wawr' to pass on their expert cooking skills to the children. This session was extremely successful!

As much as Miss Thomas and Miss Fraser are quite knowledgeable about different cooking techniques, these ladies were definitely experts! We are all looking forward to starting this very successful club again in the Autumn term with new recipes and brand new Year 6 children!
