bombsite

Vivian has Bombsite #1 in her hand, and the Prefects are reading a copy.

The first Slits gig was supporting The Clash at the Harlesden Coliseum in March 1977 and on May 1st supported The Clash at the start of their White riot tour.

Earlier Viv was in a band called The Castrators, but before playing any gigs, she joined with Keith Levene, Sid Vicious and the Flowers of Romance. Keith and Viv were close, they would play guitar together, and Kieth played live with The Slits on a couple of occasions.

Vivian states that "The Flowers of Romance, were a bunch of interesting looking people so we'd get interviewed and we'd never done anything and could hardly play."

The Slits had strong connections with the tight-knit London punk community: Palmolive lived with Joe Strummer, Vivian Albertine dated Mick Jones, and Ari Ups mother Nora dated John Lydon, whom she eventually married (they remain married to this day).

Shown Left; Original Bombsite billboard posted around Liverpool, Chester and Manchester during 1977, interesting to note the listing of record store sales outlets used by the fanzine.

Probe Records was located down the street from Eric's club on Mathew street, and was always a good outlet for the fanzine.

Many retail outlets would ask the writers to leave as they entered the building.
