Welcome to BOLD Nashville 2008!
BOLD inspires communities around the world to use the Arts to create a new, woman-centered, culture around birth.
WHEN?
- Last year BOLD inspired 75 different performances of Karen Brody’s play “Birth” throughout the world.
- Beyond awareness, BOLD performances raised over $75,000 for organizations committed to woman-centered childbirth.
- Every September, we have a 30-day window of opportunity to become part of this BOLD movement. This is Nashville’s first time hosting BOLD
WHY?
- A woman dies every minute in the world because of pregnancy or birth related complications. That means one million women die every year from these complications.
- The cesarean rate in the United States is 25% higher than the World Health Organizations acceptable percentage for industrialized countries
- The United States has one of the worst maternal and fetal mortality rates of all of the industrialized nations.
HOW?
- Through education, truth, and action BOLD believes that maternity care can change for the better.
- Birth satisfaction for many mothers is low and they feel there are very few satisfying places to discuss their stories. Through the play “Birth”, the Talkback event, and the Red Tent events, BOLD will create this safe environment for women to share their stories, educate themselves, and help bring about change.
We invite you to take a look around to get a better idea of what it is to be BOLD and how you can be BOLD with us in September!
