Past News

April 4, 2004 - Sad to say that BRO will be closing. As of today, it is no more. I'm sorry to anyone who actually looked at this site! I just don't have enough time!  I'll leave a little stuff up just in case anyone comes looking for anything. If you need something on Bobby, let me know and I'll see what i can do. Thanks for an awesome year!

March 17, 2004- WHOA! Hey there! *waves* Happy St. Paddy's day!! So, it's been a MUY long time....derr....although I *did* give you all a warning that I wouldn't be updating too often anymore! So, here's whats going on, after I've said all this nice stuff, if you'd kindly scroll down just a little bit (but before January 1st! ), you'll see all (well, most of it) of the Burn news. OK, well, got an email from the people I pay to have more than 7 pages on this site, and apparently the credit card didn't work when it automatically renewed itself. Cue me frantically heading to the paypal site to try a different card. The stupid site wouldn't let me log in. And obviously it wouldn't help if I started a new account, because then I couldn't access the old card and info. Basically, I have no idea if you guys will still be able to view some of the pages on this site. On to the Burn news (I'm getting it up slowly) -

  • March 2, 2004 - Burn sign Finnish midfielder Simo Valakari
  • March 1, 2004 - Burn top off Norway 2-1 in La Manga Cup
  • February 28, 2004 - Burn tie Dynamo Kiev 2-2 in La Manga Cup

January 1, 2004- Happy New Year! Lots of Burn stuff, so get ready. Also, I don't know how often I will be updating between now and April, so don't expect very regular posts. sorry!! (to the 4 of you that view this website weekly ^.^) Anyways, on to the Burn content...

December 20, 2003- wowzers...long time since the last post. Hmm. Best excuse I can think of is that I was busy studying for exams like the good student that I am. (and yes, i did fairly well on all except chemistry...yuck-but i heard second semester is easier lol so at least that's something to look forward to!) While I'm extremely off-topic, i'd just like to point everyone over to Fàilte ort a dh'Albainn (woohoo for shameless plugs!!) and add that everyone needs to go see Return of the King --right now!!! Go!!! Anyways, on to actual Burn content. Lots of articles to post and such...

Ronnie, I have no idea if you've seen yet but remember I told you I'd give you the link, so here it is (again, i posted it in like...October or so, i believe) not much up yet but I'm working on it! :) O'BRIEN HQ

November 27, 2003- Happy Turkey Day all! Not much new to report, as you may have guessed by the lack of updates...it appears Colin Clarke may have the coaching gig with the Burn, but that's not for certain so don't hold me to that...Burn have waived Mandi Urbas, who had 3 appearances this past season. This does not necessarily mean that Urbas won't be around next year, because LA at one point waived Alexi Lalas and he was around the next season. We'll see. I'll post more when I get more details!

November 19, 2003- A little late with this announcement, but I'm sure if you haven't heard yet, this will make you really happy too! The Burn announced that they will be moving back to the Cotton Bowl for the 2004 season, before they move to their brand new stadium in Frisco in 2005. Full article can be viewed HERE.

November 7, 2003- Get on over to MLSnet.com and vote for Bobby's header in the Goal of the Year contest! The contest goes until November 21st and the field will be narrowed to five, with the winner being announced at MLS Cup 2003.

November 1, 2003- The Dallas Burn have announced their awards for the 2003 season. Our own Bobby Rhine was awared US Soccer Foundation Humanitarian of the Year. Congrats Bobby! Article clip below:

DALLAS - Dallas Burn players Jason Kreis, Brad Davis, DJ Countess and Bobby Rhine have won the following Major League Soccer local awards in a vote of Dallas/Fort Worth-area media members.

Honda Most Valuable Player - Forward Jason Kreis
Despite missing the last 11 games of the season after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee, Kreis was named the Burn MVP for the second time in his career (also in 1999).  Kreis carried the Burn offensively prior to the injury and was leading the team and was tied for eighth in the league in scoring with seven goals and two assists for 16 points.  He is currently just three goals shy of breaking the all-time league record for career goals (88).

Budweiser Scoring Champion - Midfielder Brad Davis
In only his second year in the league, and first with the Burn, Davis became only the third player in team history other than Kreis to lead the Burn in scoring.  Despite missing the final three games of the year with a pelvic bone stress injury, Davis finished the season with six goals and a team-high five assists for 17 points.  A Rookie of the Year finalist with the MetroStars last year, Davis finished the 2002 season with four goals and three assists for 11 points.

ADT Defender of the Year - Goalkeeper DJ Countess
In only his first year as a starter for the Burn, Countess enters the final game of the season fourth in the league in saves with 109, despite playing six fewer games than the goalkeepers ranked above him in that category. Countess also tied three- league records on the season.  He saved two penalty kicks in a 0-0 draw at the MetroStars (a feat only accomplished on one other occasion) and was named MLS Player of the Week following that performance.  Additionally, he saved a league-record-tying four penalty kicks on the year while facing a league-record-tying ten penalty kicks.

U.S. Soccer Foundation Humanitarian of the Year - Forward Bobby Rhine
Rhine was recognized as the U.S. Soccer Humanitarian of the Year for the countless player appearances, autograph sessions and player clinics that he conducted throughout the season.  Additionally, Rhine was actively involved in the Dallas Burn 'N Learn Program, and often took time out of his schedule to visit various schools to read to students and preach the importance of staying in school
.

Congrats to all the award recipients! Also, I'll probably have a new poll up once the Burn are more actively discussing trades and such. Look for it after MLS Cup.

October 28, 2003- The Burn won their last game of the season, 4-3 on Saturday night, in what was an awesome game. Everything was excellent...the atmosphere, the attitude(s) of the players...in my opinion, it couldn't have been much better, except if that last goal (would have been the 5th) wouldn't have been counted offsides, but whatever. They won, it's cool. That last win brings the Burn to a 6-19-6 record for the year. Anyways, 'bout the site. I'm still working on the Interactive pages, but it's up and done for the most part. Again, let me know what you think by emailing me at the link just below.

PS: RonnieO, if you're lookin', your site will be HERE, which is also the link I showed you. Thanks to the #1 Irish homefrog!

October 24, 2003- I added a Site map and an Interactive page today. The site map (duh) tells you what everything on this site is, and the Interactive page takes you to my TagBoard, Guestmap, and Guestbook (same as the link on this menu). Head over and check it out! Please let me know what you think by E-mailing me!!

October 19, 2003- I added a bunch of photos to the Pictures page, check 'em out! Also, pic of me and bobby together on the Webmaster page.

October 18, 2003- The Burn just have not had good luck on the road this year! They played the KC Wizards tonight and the game ended with Jimmy Conrad scoring the only goal for the Wiz. This brings the Burn record to 5-19-5. Ronnie O'Brien was once again subbed into the game, in the 72nd minute for Oscar Pareja. The next home game for the Burn is October 25th, vs. the Colorado Rapids. It is the last game of the season for the Burn, who for the first time in league history failed to make the playoffs. After the game, all fans are invited down onto the field to get autographs. Come on out and support the Burn as they try to pull in one more win for the season!

October 17, 2003- Good news for the Burn with a 0 - 0 tie @ the Metrostars. Congrats to Burn 'keeper DJ Countess for saving not one, but two PK's in the game, tying a MLS record for PK's saved. Tony Meola is the only other goalie who has done the same. The tie brings the Burn record to 5-18-5.

Also, in my opinion the best news, Ronnie O'Brien made his return for the Burn, subbing in for Bobby Rhine around the 77th minute. O'Brien hadn't played since May 3rd (@ DC United) when Dema "the Hack" Kovalenko decided to break Ronnie's leg.

Next game for the Burn is tomorrow night, @ Kansas City. To all you Dallasites out there, come to Pugsley's (I-35 and Walnut Hill Ln.) for the last watching party of the season!

October 10, 2003- Apologies on the delay in updates again....school is so much busier this year! Whoever heard of homework over fall break?! Yeah but moving on:

Burn played the New England Revolution to a 4-1 loss Saturday night at Dragon Stadium. Oscar Pareja had the lone goal for the Burn, assist by Ali Curtis. It was a very, very nice goal, by the way. Curtis had some nice footwork to throw off his man, passed it across the box to Pareja who one-timed it in past Adin Brown.

Next game for the Burn is tomorrow night, @ the Metrostars.

September 30, 2003- A little change on my musical schedule. Rehearsals start next week, but I'm going to do all of my computer updates on the weekend, so hopefully updates shouldn't be a problem this time around. Off topic, but I'm really happy because my tech theatre teacher wants me to learn lights for the One Act Student Directed plays. Woohoo! Anyways, on to Burn updates.

The Burn traveled to San Jose this past Saturday and suffered a 5-2 loss. The Burn goals were scored by Ezra Hendrickson in the 8th minute and Ali Curtis in the 14th minute. Dwayne DeRosario had a hat trick for the Quakes, and Landon Donovan had two goals. This is the Burn's first loss since Mike Jeffries left the Burn, and it brings Colin Clarke's record so far to 1-1-0. The next home game for the Burn is Saturday, October 4th vs the New England Revolution, and the first 5,000 fans will receive an Oscar Pareja bobblehead.

September 21, 2003- Mucho long time since the last update, apologies for that. The past two weeks I've been really busy with our school play, but it ended last night, so updates should be more normal til November, when the musical starts. Big news on the Burn front, and lots of it, so here we go...

  • Mike Jeffries was fired on Monday, and assistant coach Armando Pelaez decided to step down as well, so we went from 4 coaches to 2. Colin Clarke has taken over temporarily as coach, and Steve Morrow is now an assistant coach as well as player.
  • Greg Elliot is the new Burn GM/President. He came from San Jose and supposedly has a lot of experience. Check out the Burn site for full details.
  • Sept. 6 - Burn @ Colorado Rapids - L 1-2 - Goal scored by Brad Davis. Summary can be viewed Here.
  • Sept. 13 - Burn @ Columbus Crew - L 2-3 - Goals scored by Brian Dunseth and Eddie Johnson. Summary can be viewed Here.
  • Sept. 20 - Burn vs Chicago Fire (2nd leg of the Brimstone Cup) - W 2-0 - Goals scored by Toni Nhleko and Eddie Johnson. Although the Burn lost the first leg of the B.C. they retain the Cup because they won it last year. Too complicated for you? Check out the link above.

Off topic, but the USWNT opened up their World Cup play today with a 3-1 win over Sweden.

Next game for the Burn is Sept. 27th @ San Jose. It will be shown on Dallas channel 52 at 9 pm. Next home game for the Burn is October 4th vs New England, at Dragon Stadium, starting at 7:30 pm.

September 3, 2003- Clash of the former Burn players at the HDC Saturday night, when the Burn traveled to take on the Galaxy, unfortunately suffering a 2-1 loss. The ref (Noel Kenny, i think?) was awesome though. Kudos to the ref. Lone Burn goal was scored off an 'indirect free kick' by Brad Davis in the 12th minute.

August 25, 2003- Happy birthday to me! (16th b-day yesterday! we had our celebration at the game, which was awesome. yay!) Anyways, the Burn lost 2-1 to Columbus. The lone goal was scored by our very own Bobby! Congrats to Bobby. You can vote for his goal at MLS Goal of the Week. Also, new layout, practically the same thing as Ryan Suarez's site, but I prefer this layout, it seems less cluttered to me. Feel free to let me know what you think by emailing me!

August 17, 2003- Burn are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I guess, cuz they pulled off a 3-2 win against KC last night. Goals scored by Vaca (asst. by Nhleko), a PK by Brad Davis, and the third by Eddie Johnson. Next game for the Burn is Sat. the 23rd vs. Columbus, hopefully they can keep up the wins.

August 15, 2003- Muy long time since the last update, mostly due to my being out of town for three weeks and starting school last Monday. I was hoping the Burn could turn the season around while I was gone, but they didn't. Someone needs to convince the Burn that it's OK to win. No wait, that it's OK to try. I probably won't get the Burn schedule up until about Labor Day, because that's the first break we have off of school, so in the meantime if you want to see the Burn schedule with results, please go here.

Also, three big things: Jason Kreis is out for the season with a ACL tear in his left knee. Kreis was leading the team in scoring and was just three goals shy of the All-time Goals Scored record. The Burn have acquired Mandi Urbas as a discovery player. Urbas will wear #13 for the Burn. Ronnie O'Brien met with the doctors last week and was told that his leg had not healed enough to start jogging until at least September. The Burn say he won't be back this season, but Ronnie says he will be. Should be interesting to see how things turn out.

July 13, 2003- Friday it was announced that the Burn traded Ryan Suarez, Paul Broome, and Antonio 'Chivas' Martinez to the LA Galaxy for Ezra Hendrickson, Gavin Glinton, and a first round draft pick.

Also, the Burn played Kansas City last night to a 5-1 loss. This brings the Burn's record to 2-8-4, and the Burn are in 5th place in the Western standings. Toni Nhleko (the new player from South Africa) is supposed to arrive sometime this week. Normally I had put up a bunch of Burn stuff on my site for Ryan Suarez, such as the schedule and some little things like that, but since he's now a member of the Galaxy, I'll be putting up the Burn schedule on this site. Major Burn updates will also be posted here.

July 10, 2003- The Burn played CD Aguila of El Salvador in the American Airlines Cup last night at Dragon Stadium. After 90 minutes, the score was tied 3-3 and the game went into PK's. The Burn made all 4 of their attempts, while Jeff Cassar saved 3 of the 4 Aguila attempts. Bobby Rhine scored two goals in the game. Congrats to Bobby! The other Burn goal was scored by Mandi Urbas, who is currently in camp with the Burn, with the assist by Dario Muchotrigo, a Peruvian who is also in camp with the Burn. Jason Thompson, who tore his ACL while training with the US U23s in Portugal in January also played last night. Tenywa "T-Bone" Bonseu played 45 minutes, his first since suffering a thigh contusion in the game against Colorado June 21st.

July 5, 2003- Burn lost 3-1 to DC the other night at Dragon Stadium. The only goal for the Burn was off a PK by Jason Kreis. The MLS Disciplinary Committee fined Brandon Prideaux $250 and he must serve a one game suspension due to being red-carded out of the match. Incidentally, he wasn't sent off, but should have received a second yellow card. The referee did not communicate properly with the linesman, and wrongfully awarded the yellow card to Brian Namoff. Had Prideaux been sent off for the second yellow card, there is no doubt in my mind that the Burn could have kept the game at 1-1 for a tie. DC went on to score twice more shortly after. Next game for the Burn is tonight at 6:30 (central) at Columbus.

June 29, 2003- The Burn were flattened by the Galaxy last night at the Home Depot Center with a 3-0 loss. Next game for the Red n Black is Wednesday vs. DC United at Dragon Stadium at 8 pm.

June 27, 2003- BRO now has a Forum! Feel free to discuss whatever you'd like on it, just keep it appropriate, please.

  • Also, there is a new poll up, entitled 'Who is the best player on the Burn?'. Not very original, but it was all I could think of on short notice.

June 26, 2003- Bobby will be on 'Inside Soccer' tonight on Foxsports Radio 1190 from 7 pm til 8 pm. 'Inside Soccer' is hosted by Buzz Carrick and Brad Sham, but Tobias Lopez from the Fort Worth Star Telegram will be filling in for Brad Sham tonight. Check it out.

June 22, 2003 - The Burn took on a struggling Rapids last night at Dragon Stadium, and came out on top with a 3-1 result. Goals were scored for the Burn by Brad Davis, Jason Kreis, and Joselito Vaca. John Spencer scored the lone goal for Colorado off a PK.

June 20, 2003- A lot of stuff has happened since the last update, these past two weeks have been extremely busy for me. I'll work on getting a better update system going though. What has happened:

  • Burn @ Chicago. The Burn conceded an early goal off a PK (taken by Razov), and things sort of spiraled downhill after that. Ryan Suarez scored the lone goal after a free kick for the Burn, ball was in and out for a bit, then Philip Salyer found Ryan through the mess of players, and Ryan one timed it past Zach Thornton. The game was tied 1-1 up six minutes from the end, then the Burn defense seemed to stop playing, because Chicago scored three times to make it 4-1, which was how it ended. This most recent loss brings the Burn to 1-5-3, and 5th in the Western Conference.
  • Burn vs. San Jose. The Burn lost 2-1, which brought the record to 1-4-3. Jason Kreis with the only goal.
  • Scrimmage- Texas Spurs vs. the Burn. The Burn won 5-0 with goals by Bobby Rhine, Paul Broome, and Ronald Cerritos. Brad Davis and Antonio 'Chivas' Martinez scored off of free kicks.
  • Some photos have been moved off of the Photos page, mostly due to the time it took for them to load. If you'd like to see them, they can be found Here.

The next game for the Burn is tomorrow, June 21st, at 8 pm at Dragon Stadium, against the Colorado Rapids, who are 2-6-2. Be sure to get there early, the first 5,000 fans get a Dallas Burn team poster.

June 10, 2003- The Burn will be playing a scrimmage against the Texas Spurs (PDL) on Wednesday, June 11th at UTD at 7:30 pm. Admission is $5 for Adults and $3 for Children. The Burn will most likely field a mix of starters and reserves, and the Spurs coach used to play for the Burn and was asst. coach for a while, so it should be a good game. Come out and support the Burn!

June 1, 2003- Well, that game was definitely fun. Revenge is sweet, oh yes it 'tis. If you didn't hear already, the Burn picked up their first win of the season, a 3-2 win over DC United, which brings the Burn to a 1-3-3 record. The next game is June 14th vs. San Jose at 8 pm at Dragon Stadium. If you were at the game, you may have seen a girl, me, in the GA section hobbling around on crutches with a knee brace and a sign around her neck that said "Dema got me". Hope everyone enjoyed our signs and shouts, I know the DC guys weren't too pleased with them. So everyone make sure you come to the game on July 2nd, which is the next and final time DC comes to play here this season. It should be most interesting.

May 29, 2003- AC Milan won on PK's, successfully making 3, while Juventus only made 2. Woohoo! Everyone make sure you're at the game Saturday at 8 pm cheering for Bobby and the Burn. Come sit/stand with the Inferno and maybe we'll yell "rude" (kevin..ronnie..haha) comments at Dema Kovalenko. "Maybe".

May 28, 2003- The UEFA Champions Cup Final is being played today, in Manchester, England. Juventus vs. AC Milan, it should be good. It's on ESPN2 at 2:30 ET.

May 26, 2003- It's finally summer! three cheers for summer...haha...anyways, lots of stuff has happened since the last post. Here we go...

  • May 17th . LA @ Burn . 1-1 tie, with Burn score by Brad Davis, followed by a fence-hop/run into the Inferno. If you go to the MLSnet past goal of the week thing, you can watch it. Serious props to Brad for the run into the Inferno. If only I had been there, right? haha
  • May 24th. Burn @ Metrostars. 2-1 loss, with Burn score by Jason Kreis. The Burn now have an 0-3-3 record after the loss to the MetroStars and tie w/LA.
  • US vs Wales game summary can be found HERE. It's also linked off the Archives page, along with the US vs Mexico summary.
  • Next USMNT game is June 8 vs. New Zealand, in Richmond, VA. I'll be doing a summary for that as well, so look back here soon for more details.
  • Congratulations to Bobby's teammate Ryan Suarez, who earned his first USMNT cap today, starting the game vs. Wales and playing 78 minutes.
  • Tonight, the US played to a 2-0 win over Wales. See my Game Summary for anything you might have missed.
  • And if you've noticed that some past news has gone missing, that's because it's been moved to the Archives page. I kept most of the important stuff if you were looking for something. If you need something that's not there, email me at Webmaster@rhineonline.cjb.net and I'll see what I can do to help you.

Everyone make sure you come to the game on Saturday at Dragon Stadium vs. DC United. You should come sit in the Gen. Admission section w/the Inferno so you can yell at Dema "Hack you very much" Kovalenko (as dubbed by the Burn's own Ryan Suarez) with the rest of us.

May 16, 2003- Well...nothing really new...I'll be putting up an Archives page for old stuff (right now mainly just the US/Mexico thing) possibly this weekend, but I've got exams to study for (they're next week). If I haven't updated by Monday, please be patient until probably Saturday the 24th, as that is the next convenient time for me to update. After that, its summer! Thanks for being patient!

May 11, 2003- Last night at the game, I talked to Jimmy Conrad (KC player) about his past posts on Sports Illustrated. In one of his past posts he did a mini-interview/quiz thing with some of his then-teammates. Anyways, I was talking with him about it, and he said that I could use his questions to do a similar thing w/some Burn guys. Look for that sometime in June, as the next game I am attending will be the May 31 matchup against DC. Be there...and be sure to yell some stuff at Dema "hack you very much" Kovalenko. It's not like he doesn't deserve it...

By the way, the Burn's 3-1 loss to Kansas City leaves them with an 0-2-2 record for the season so far. Hopefully they can redeem themselves once Oscar Pareja gets back. Oscar told me he's coming back next game though, so we'll see how things go once El Capitan is back.

May 8, 2003
- A couple new things to mention. I had been thinking on a better name for the site (Bobby Rhine: The Rhine-oceros didn't really satisfy my creativity, and it's too long anyways...) and last night I decided on Bobby Rhine Online, or Rhine Online as it will be referred to in banner links and such. If you ever see 'BRO' anywhere, it will be referring to 'Bobby Rhine Online'. ALSO, The site can now be reached at www.rhineonline.cjb.net . It's still the same site, obviously, just a URL forwarding thing. Makes the site name sound simpler too hehe.

US (0) Mexico (0). Well, you can't say it wasn't a good game. Click Here to see my Game Summary.

May 6, 2003- Burn (0) @ DC (0). The good part about this game is we get a point on the road. The bad part is that Dema Kovalenko tackled Ronnie O'Brien and broke ROB's leg. ROB is out for the season, has had surgery to put a rod in his leg, and the rod will stay in for a year. He can play with the rod, but he's still going to be out for the season. This does, as you may have guessed, cause somewhat of a problem for the Burn on the right side. Joselito Vaca may fill the spot, but there has also been speculation that Brad Davis could go in behind Eddie Johnson. We'll see how things play out for the Burn in their first game without ROB, against Kansas City, this Saturday, 7:30 PM at Dragon Stadium.

April 23, 2003- I've put a poll up, and yes, it IS the same one that's on Ryan Suarez: A Rising Star. That should've been obvious from the fact that it says 'Back to Ryan Suarez: A Rising Star' at the bottom. Right now you can get to it either by clicking Here, or on the menu bar, clicking 'Poll'.

Dallas Cup Final Standings- SuperGroup
1. Tigres of Mexico
2. US U17s
3. CD Guadalajara
4. Newcastle United

April 4, 2003- Well, as you all may have noticed, this site "disappeared" for about two months. This is due to me deleting the original site (Bobby Rhine: The Rhine-oceros). I had to delete it due to lack of time, but after speaking with Bobby at the Burn Open House have decided to put the site back up. This will of course be rather slow going, partly due to the fact that school finals are next month, I have massive amounts of schoolwork. I will, however, try to get a somewhat regular update system going on. For major Burn updates, please see the News page at Ryan Suarez: A Rising Star (RSARS), because there will be times when I get things posted on RSARS and not on this site.

Please bear with me while I am getting everything back up! Thanks!
