I love engineering!
My professional interests in engineering are broad ranging from RF through to HV systems. Some example of my recent work include circuit board design, fault finding, experiental antenna design and installation. Electronics has been my main hobby along side amateur radio for about ten years, beginning with simple experimentation and fun projects to what is now a professional level.

I qualified as an electronics technician a few years ago whilst I was working as an electrician, this prompted me to enrol as a mature student at the University of Surrey to read for an engineering degree in electronics. My interests are specialised in optical electronics, semi-conductor physics, R.F and network communications. In my spare time I enjoy building radio related projects and I also enjoy designing and building fun projects for my personal use and enjoyment, for example a recent project has been the design and building of an electrical wire tracer.

As a note of interest for any apprentice electricians reading this:
I was fortunate in that I took the dreaded AM2 examinations at Crawley college, the final exam for nationally recognised professional electricians. The Achievement Measurement 2 (AM2) is a 3-day, industry recognised, Practical Performance Assessment (PPA) test that is conducted under nationally set controlled conditions. Electricians who have taken this test and lived to talk about it will no doubt quiver when hearing it mentioned... It is a gruelling experience although very good in the way that it pushes you and your abilities to the very limit under extremely strict time deadlines. I found that the best way to deal with the time deadlines was to take a stop watch and time every seperate part of the exam, setting strict guidelines for how long a task should take me. I only came up with this method on the second day of the exam, although I hope it may help any electricians about to take their finals who are reading this now. I passed first time and scored 92 out of 98, which entitled me to be entered for an ECA prize.
