B.O.A.S.C.

Building Officials Association of Suffolk County

1. How much is the annual dues?  Dues fee is $45 for certified code officials and $65 for associate members.

2. I want to register for seminar dates in Suffolk County but do not see them listed on this site.  The only courses we are affiliated with is the ones listed on our site and only for the locations listed. Any course you see listed on any other website requires that you register directly with them. The opposite is true as well. You can not register for our courses through anyone but us.

3. I registered for a course with the Department of State but was not on the attendance sheets on the day of the seminar.  Check to make sure you had the correct course date and location. In addition, you must register directly with the BOASC for courses being offered through us.

4. Why am I being asked to pay for attendance at a BOASC sponsored seminar? When the BOASC hosts a seminar it costs us money. We have to pay for use of the facility and clean up. We also provide coffee, tea, juice, breakfast and lunch. The fees you are asked to pay are simply to pay for the expenses we incurred.

5. I do not see my name on the Department of State Codes Division list of Certified Code Officials. What do I do? Contact the codes division regarding your status. The BOASC has no control over it. Many times it turns out that you did not have as many credits as you thought you did. It is a good idea to keep your own log of attendance. It also never hurts to take an extra course during the year instead of doing the minimum 24 hours.

6. I requested email notification every time there is a new course offered but, never received anything. There are over 360 BOASC members and only one secretary. I do this in my spare time in between everything else that life demands. At this time I do not have the ability to notify individuals. The best way to keep up to date is check the website regularly.

7. I am unable to attend the date(s) I registered for and want to attend a different day. Can I just show up? No. Just because the same course is being given on a different day in Suffolk County, do not assume that the BOASC is hosting it and vice-versa. The are several different groups that have been offering training and each has their own registration process.

8. How do I confirm my registration for a BOASC course? When you register for a course with us you will find your name on a list on the training page. It is not an instant process. I have to physically update the list and it may take a little time.

9. Can I call to confirm registration, membership or ask other questions? It is appreciated that you do not call my office looking for information. The staff in my office does not work for the BOASC and can not provide you with information. In addition, it is unfair to my employer for you to assume I can take their time to respond to questions. You are free to email me at inspector7515@optonline.net or leave a message on the BOASC voice mail. 631-226-4256. You will get a faster response using email.

10. Can I pay using a credit card? The BOASC does not currently accept credit card payments.

11. Can I pay using a voucher? We will accept vouchers provided they are filled out entirely and require only a signature. If there are other requirements, such as billing or vendor questionaires, we request you pay by cash or personal check and seek reimbursement on your own. Each municipality has different requirements and it is impossible for us to accomodate them at this time.

12. I am interested in contacting other or all members of the association. Can I obtain the mailing list for the members? Due to the privacy concerns of our members we do not share any information with any 3rd party.
