This is one of those "you have to see it to believe it" places. We offer down home hospitality, friendly smiles and free coffee, tea or spring water (when we are open).
We're OPEN from 9 AM to 5 PM during the summer and 10 to 4 in the winter, but only Noon to closing on Sundays. We CLOSE if it snows or there's ice, and then we go home or stay home to stay safe (and to keep all our customers safe, too). With the INDOOR and OUTDOOR Markets to shop from, we're OPEN every day, except Monday - unless it is a holiday weekend and then we're here on Monday, too.
In the Winter, we have the coffee on and hot water for tea or cocoa all day long and we usually have something homemade cooking in the crockpot to share on a donation only basis. Year 'round, we have cold drinks in the fridge at real reasonable prices and we make sure there is something to eat - crackers, chips, fruit, and/or sometimes we order pizza and offer it for $1 to $1.50 per slice.
We are not an early morning, "done by noon" kinda market. Come to set up within our business hours and don't plan on getting here at daylight - you'll get mighty lonesome! We have customer traffic all day (and mostly after 11 AM), LOTS of regulars, and a steady stream of referrals from the hotels, motels and the VA Hospital.
We have free coffee, tea and spring water; covered tables; chairs; bags; tags; clothes racks; and whatever else you might need to conduct your business - all included in your rent. We stock cold drinks, chips and candy. The last Saturday in June every year we give away FREE hotdogs as a thank you for all our loyal customers - please plan on joining us then!
We are not the largest market, but well worth a visit - If you need something, we probably have it; but, if we don't, we'll help you find it anyway! We take the time to chat, to welcome you, to help you get whatever it is you need or want or at least point you in the right direction. We believe in true Southern Hospitality and in the idea that we are all 'family' on this earth and should all act like it!
Come on by and visit with us awhile. We have trouble getting folks to find us as we have a little 'footprint' on the main road; but we never have a problem with anyone REMEMBERING us - and, as a rule, if they come to visit once, we'll see them again, even if they live in upstate New York! (And THANKS Again for telling all your friends up there!!!).
There was a huge flea market in Asheville that began at a Drive-In Theater a long time ago and it ended up as a huge presence in the flea market world. I still have at least 2-3 people a month come from places like Washington State, Califormia, New Mexico, etc. and ask if I know where the "Dreamland" moved to. They grew up here, or they visited here, or their parents or grandparents took them there once, etc. THEY REMEMBER it - not for some trinket they found there, but for the "feel" of the market - the friendliness of the vendors, the spirit of cooperation where someone would send you down the line or one shed over to Miss Ginny's or the Vacumn Cleaner Man to find what you needed or wanted if they didn't have it. I have one of the original t-shirts framed in a shadow box - they may be gone, but definitely are not forgotten. Some of the vendors and many of the customers from that market are with us here at our market and expressions like "the old Dreamland rules" are heard when a regular vendor is trying to explain to a new one that after 11 AM if there is an empty table next to you, it is OK to fill it up! Looking busy is sometimes as good as being busy to draw traffic off the road!
Come on by when you have the time and sit a spell, find a deal, make some money, save some money, meet new friends or just enjoy our hospitality - we'll be glad to see ya' even if you're just window-shopping! You don't have to spend money here to get something - free coffee, tea or spring water anytime, a free toy for every child on Saturdays, or come by the last Saturday in June, and be one of the first 300 customers and get a free hot dog as our way of saying thank you for another great year!
