Mitchell Stadium

The Bluefield Park and Recreational Department is proud to offer Mitchell Stadium as the home of Bluefield Barons professional minor league football team.  Built in 1936, Mitchell Stadium has seen many football standouts come and go.  Former NFL Players Sam Huff, Fred Wyatt, Bruce Bosley, and Bill Dudley along with local football coaching hero Merrill Gainer are just a few of the many legends who have graced the playing field. 

Mitchell Stadium has a seating capacity of 10,000 spectators with standing room for an additional 2,000 spectators.  Nearly $1 million in renovations were made to the stadium grandstands during 1999-2000, with more schedule in the future as part of Bluefield’s commitment to public improvements.



Alliance Football League

The Alliance Football League (AFL) consists of semi-pro football league currently consisting of nine teams in the Tennessee, West Virginia, Georgia, and Alabama areas.  Teams usually consist of unpaid athletes and a volunteer staff.  Teams in the Alliance Football League consist of: Bluefield Barons, Georgia Gladiators, Georgia X-tream, Knoxville Knights, Montgomery Buffaloes, Tennessee Pioneers, Tennessee Raptors, and Tennessee Rattlers.
