GENERAL CAT CARE

Cats in general are a relatively easy pet to look after, this is because cats are very much indepedent and dont depend on others like a dog would. Cats are purely canivores unlike dogs who eat both vegetables and meat, cats do not need to eat any vegetables or cereals in their diet. If you are thinking of purchasing a kitten or already have, there are a few essential items you will need, a cosy bed placed in a quiet spot away from draughts, food and water bowl, litter tray, litter, and various cat toys. Litter training is nesscary unless you choose to have your cat living solely outdoors (some sort of cat kennel lined with blankets will need to be provided if your cat is to live outdoors)some cats however don't use their litter tray even though litter trained (eg-my cat!) and they will just go to the toilet ouside when they are out playing, a cat that only goes to the toilet outside is a very good cat to have, as it means no nasty litter trays to clean. On the other hand cats who use their litter trays only, such as cats living solely indoors, will need their tray emptied and cleaned once a day, cats being very clean animals unlike dogs will not use a dirty litter tray and may find another clean quiet spot in your home to go to the bathroom!! So be sure to keep the litter tray clean, and placed in a quiet spot.

Amusing your cat

Whether your cat lives indoors, outdoors or a bit of both like most cats they still need toys and their owners to amuse and stimulate them. Cats with no toys and little human contact will get very bored and lazy. Toys like jingly balls, furry mice, catnip toys, dangling feathers, strings, cardboard tubes, boxes, scratching posts, rolled up paper etc all make excellent toys for cats to play with, and most cats will enjoy going crazy for a while playing with their owner and their toys! Some cats just arent playful, or prefere to play on their own, on the other hand some cats love their owners to play with them, and many cats like my own love to chase their owner around the house, or get chased by their owner around the house, this is them playing a fun game, if your cat suddenly jumps up from playing with you and darts out of the room, then meows, or peeks out from a hiding place at you, the chances are your cat wants you to chase him/her, so get up and run after your cat until you both get tired out! Cats are very playful animals, but like with any animal there are many variations and some are more playful than others.

Grooming your cat

Cats are always very clean animals unlike dogs who carry many germs and bacteria! Cats groom them selves alot during the day, forever licking their paws, faces, bottoms, legs and tail, therefore cats generally take care of grooming themselves and don't really need aditional grooming, unless your cat has a long coat, then your cat should be brushed every day with a soft brush and slicker brush. When your cat is molting you may also brush them with a slicker brush to remove excess fur to stop your cat swalloing it when he cleans himself.
