Number of volunteers needed:  9
Volunteers will help families experience the Southwest region and culture through traditional musical instruments, animal and nature sounds, and lively storytelling.

Event description:
Hear it, make it, tell it! Experience the Southwest region and culture through traditional musical instruments, animal and nature sounds, and cultural storytelling. Make an ocarina (clay whistle), create a traditional musical instrument loteria (bingo) board and play the game, transform sounds into poetry and stories, listen closely to the sounds of the desert region using a highly sensitive mic to amplify the voices of cacti, pots and other items, and much more!

People Who Light the Way- Candlelighters

 

Who: Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern Arizona – a nonprofit organization that supports families of children with cancer.

 

When: Saturday, February 23rd from 11:30-3:00pm

 

Where: 924 N. Alvernon Way. At the Volunteer Center.

 

What: People Who Light the Way event and opening of new office. You would be helping with games and supervision of children. There is also a welcome table that needs to be staffed (in case you don’t like children).

Project FEED (Feed Everyone Every Day)

 

Who: The Giving Tree

 

What: Project FEED serves over 300 meals each week. They also pass out clothing, toiletries, and provide case managements. Come help serve food to homeless and needy children and families. You can also bring canned food items to pass out to those in need or potluck dishes for the hungry. When you get there, just look for someone in a Giving Tree shirt and ask them what you can do to help, every volunteer will be needed.

 

When: Every Thursday and Sunday evenings from 4:00pm-7:00pm- rain or shine!

 

Where: 22nd St. Between Columbus and Swan (in the empty parking lot West of the Family Dollar Store)

 SAAF Walk in Wednesdays

Who: SAAF- Southern Arizona Aids Foundation

 

What: Come help out with various projects in a fun and social setting. Meet other volunteers and representatives of SAAF. There will be snacks provided. Projects vary depending on agency needs; they typically include hands-on work such as bulk mailings or assembling condom packets.

 

When: Every Wednesday night from 6:00-8:00pm

Southwest Indian Art Fair (SWIAF)

Saturday, February 23 (10 am – 5 pm)

Sunday, February 24 (10 am – 4 pm)

Arizona State Museum Lawn (1013 E. University)

 

Meet some of the most renowned Native artists, experience Native foods, music, and dace as well as shop for wonderful art work. No experience is necessary.

 

Volunteer for a few hours (on either day or both) and get a chance to work side by side with artists, curators, educators, and musicians. Admission is free on the days you volunteer!

 

Volunteers needed for set-up on Thursday (Feb. 21st) and Friday (Feb 22nd) and with the events on Saturday (Feb 23rd) and Sunday (Feb 24th).

Culture Craft Saturday

Archaeology Expo Arizona State Museum’s lawn will come alive with the Arizona Archaeology Expo.

 

Volunteers are needed to help with hands-on activities such as making a pot puzzle, using a pump drill, spearing a mammoth, and much more. Volunteers will also be able to tour the museum’s archaeology labs and see the new Pottery Interpretive Gallery.

Moda Provocateur (Provoking Style)

This unique fashion show begins with the hair salons rather than boutiques, and encompasses dance, music, and theatre to deliver stunning entertainment along with a message abou the mission of the southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF)
