HED 297a: Exploring Leadership (2 credits)
This course will cover a broad range of areas associated with effective leadership. These include the following: leadership language, theory, and style; communication; diversity; values, ethics and legalities associated with leadership; globalization; group member behaviors; and productivity through appropriate uses of delegation, meetings, decision making models, and power. 5 sections of this course are offered in the fall for students in Phase II of the

This course offers students an opportunity to understand multiculturalism and globalism from a leadership perspective. Students will be exposed to leadership models and theories specific to a variety of cultures and subcultures as well as learn skills to be an inclusive leader in a global society.

This course offers students an opportunity to link the concept of service to leadership development. Students will learn about the basic foundation and history of community service and non-profit organizations, gain historical perspectives on social problems addressed through service, be able to critically examine the effectiveness of service organizations, as well as understand and implement the SERVICE model. (2 credits)

EDL 272: Professional Development & Leadership
This course is taught within the Undergraduate Initiatives Department for students to explore the option of graduate school and other post-baccalaureate opportunities and be prepared for the processes involved in selecting and applying to graduate school.

EDL 280: Peer Leadership and Education: Essential Skills Leadership (2 credits)
The purpose is to enhance interpersonal leadership competence by building the practical skills necessary to effectively lead. Class will be devoted to conducting self and situational assessments, receiving feedback, and heightening personal awareness. As well as participating in structured role-plays, simulations and learning activities to practice and build interpersonal skills.

EDL 280: Peer Leadership and Education: Professional Intern Program (2 credits)
This course is designed to train Professional Interns in the Arizona Student Unions on leadership and management for Student Union student employment positions. This course is designed to be a training course for Professional Interns. Please contact the Student Union Administration Office for more information about application procedures for Professional Intern positions. Students must be selected as Professional Interns to register for this course.

EDL 280: Peer Leadership and Education: Violence Prevention Education (2 credits)
This course is designed not only to educate student peer educators on the issues surrounding interpersonal violence, but also to train these students to be positive and effective role models within the campus community. In addition, students who take this course will have the chance to learn, develop, and practice the skills necessary to effectively educate their peers through presentations, dialogues, and both discussion and activity based facilitations. By doing this, student peer educators will not only be improving student learning, but will also be encouraging healthy and responsible student behavior and will be promoting positive student growth and development.

EDL 281: Event Planning and Leadership (2 credits)
This course is designed to train students involved as committee chairs for the National Collegiate Leadership Conference held annually in February. This course will prepare those coordinating the conference on working with teams, marketing strategies, budget management, networking, and conference design. Available for NCLC planning committee only.

This course is taught within the Student Support Services/TRIO Program for students to develop effective team building and group interaction skills, sharpen presentation skills, explore professional career tracks, engage in service learning, and increase personal growth through the college experience. This course is designed for Second Year students in SSS and focuses of leadership skills, civic engagement, and career exploration.
Section 1 W, 3:30-5:20 pm Restricted Registration
The primary purpose of the internship is to provide leadership opportunities to students to do more in-depth application of their skills in a structured setting. Students will be challenged to work behind-the scenes, conduct research or assessment, design programs, or other special projects to enhance their leadership development. The internship is tailored and is created in collaboration with a staff member from the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership. Time to be determined in collaboration with internship supervisor.

EDL 293: Leadership Preceptorship (1-3 credits)
The primary purpose of this preceptorship is to provide hands-on leadership opportunities to students who have taken on a very large leadership role in assisting with Center for Student Involvement & Leadership programs. This course allows students who serve as coordinators, teaching assistants, and high-level facilitators for Greek Life, Leadership, Campus Activities, Commuter Student Affairs, and Student Organizations to not only practice the leadership skills that they have learned through educating others, but also reflect upon their leadership experience in a meaningful way. The preceptorship is tailored to each individual student’s role and is created in collaboration with a staff member from the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership. Time to be determined in collaboration with preceptor supervisor.
