Gaia Online is the largest forum on the internet and I happen to be a part of it. Gaia was started back in early 
2003 by a man we call Lanzer. He and a group of others have been diligently working on this to greatly change it in shape and size. I started back on May 1st 2004 to become member #549598 more commonly known as bluecelebi. What makes this site so interesting is that with every account you get your own "virtual person", called an avatar, to represent you. For whatever you do on the site you earn gold which is the sites form of money which you can use to buy clothes, accessories, whatever for your avatar. Although, many people joined because this site is completely free!
However, many, including myself, donate to gaia to keep it this way. You see, being the biggest forum on
the internet, gaia needs many servers to handle all the information and it costs a ton of money (somewhere in the hundreds of thousands) and to keep up with it, gaia set up a donation system so that gaia can stay a pay-free site. Using paypal you can donate to gaia and with every $2.50 you give them you get a limited edition letter that contains two items and a the end of the month you are allowed to open it and choose one of them to keep. The hard part is that you need to keep donating every month because once the month is over you can't get that one again, you'll get the current month's letter.
