Off a spur on the BVR line was the main loco shed and works of the line. It was in a tiny space but had a turntable, two-road shed and coal siding off the entrance road.
This has been recreated in 7mm scale, in a box file! This is my entry to the 7mm NGA online challange Build a Layout in a Box File, that I started, don't ask how!
The Prototype
Balmer Quarry is to the west of crowsnest and was a small byrites quarry that was served by a 4 chain long branch off the main line. At the end were three sidings in a very small space. As you came into the side there was a point that led either straight on into a loading shed or round to the right and onto a second point that led to the workshop or a small loading dock
The Model
The model is the fifth or sixth layout on this tiny base board, it is only 6 inches by 30 inches, but is made out of 18mm MDF and is 3 inches deep! The track is all Peco 00/HO buired in plaster of paris and then painted with artists acrylics. The "scenic-ing" (what little of it there is) is polystyrene covered with mod rock and then a layer of plaster of paris. The layout was then covered with a layer of Earth flock in its entirety and then dyed (with various wood dyes) dry brushed and soaked with paint.
