The Plot
4901. To some those numbers have no meaning, but those who live it, the year is full of memories. Remorse of war, hatred, cruelty, and to some, the destruction of earth. At that point, it was not far from the truth.
Tinen City was once a booming, bright city, with large, glossy buildings, skyscrapers, and little trash. With forests just outside civilization, a lot of normally wild animals migrated into the high-class uptown suburbia, and eventually into the city itself. Wolves, hybrids, and dogs roamed the streets, but mostly they had a human to look after them. Three packs formed, the Junkyard Thieves, mostly known as only the Jai, the Bandits, interesting name, but it fit their character, and the Liren. Today, only the Liren remain, which says a lot. That was nearly 2,000 years ago.
But with age, came destruction, just as many had predicted. After four large Nuclear Wars, the world was in ruins. Smog and ash filled the skies, nuclear waste the air, trash covered the streets, or what was left of them, and foreign soldiers burned every home. It was not a place to live, any longer, but a place to die. In that long period of time, a number of things happened besides wars between humans. There was a war between humans and canines.
The wolf avoided speaking too much, using body language to communicate. The clans mostly believed it was part of the wolven honor, not to use your tongue unless situations called for it. It took a more experienced, balanced canine not to speak when they have other means, whilst a dog would merely open their mouths lazily. That was one reason the wolves resented their cousins, another issue was that they believed dogs unclean, filthy animals. A wolf took more pride and effort to maintain their hygiene, the elders said. And last of all, the greatest that perturbed them, was a dog's loyalty to man. A human was worse than dog in the matters of hygiene, and certainly worse in behavior. But a mutt, giving up their right to be an individual, a free, wild soul, instead of a chained pet, gave up their soul completely.
By this time, there were many hybrids. The elders were angry, and went out on banish all of their blood from the clans. Meanwhile, dogs looked at them strangely, a wolf and mutt wasn’t so uncommon, and they didn’t discriminate between them. As the years went by, there were very few pure wolves left. Allegedly, there’s only one now, and he leads the Liren Pack.
This new species had attributes of both, but especially did not want to be kept as a prisoner of a human under the name of “pet”. They rebelled against humans, and man no longer saw use for them, other than food. With no farms left, no farmers to even make one, they were at a loss to feed their armies and people. So factories were made, chambers, they’re called, to produce any animal into meat, remove the taste and replace it with chicken, beef, etc. The overpopulated hybrids, just known as dogs, were number one on the list to be slaughtered. But they fought back. And started the war.
It did not last long only three years. The dog population decreased to a tenth of what it had been before the war. Humans outlawed them, anyone could use lethal force when encountering a canine. Man’s best friend became his mortal enemy, and vise versa. The second letter of the password for posting your dog's application, is 'o'. Since Tinen City had the highest population of dogs, which wasn’t very much, chambers were set up, and meat shipped to needy armies all over the states. A gruesome project, terrible, but it continues this day.
A dying species, the dogs gathered together, and found a haven. The sewers were something the humans had abandoned years ago. They didn’t smell, because after their waste-storing years, people turned it into a canal system. It was dark, deep, but human-less. They stayed in the sewer for two years, until the disease came. One dog had it, he breathed on another, and he had it. The entire race of dogs that sheltered under the broken roads died of the disease. The one they call the Black Widow.
Few dogs stayed behind, to live in the air instead of the sewer. But with only 50 dogs left, instead of 500, they started the population to growing again. In need of more puppies, they raped the females. In need of more food, they killed anything that walked. In need of more shelter, they turned to the woods, that had burned, grown up, and burned again but they found another refuge.
One day, a bitch from the sewer came to find them, and they knew she was infected with Black Widow. Her fur was falling to pieces, her skin underneath turning black. The colors of her eyes were gone, only black remained. The female’s skin was stretched out against thin, frail bones, and the virus was eating the muscles in her body. Those were the legendary symptoms, and she carried the disease. They told her leave, and pulled their females and cublings away so they wouldn’t have to suffer it. But she stayed, driven mad by Black Widow, as the story said. Eventually twelve died, including the female.
The population is still being restored, but with so many threats, can they live it? With so many trying to kill them, eliminate their race, can they survive? Your decision.
