Black Skull Games: Netherworld

Hello, and welcome to the homepage of the Netherworld Campaign Setting created by Black Skull Games.

Netherworld is an original fantasy role-playing game world which utilizes some aspects of the OGL (Open Gaming License) and d20 licenses created by Wizards of the Coast and is inspired by the game worlds and literature of the Dungeons and Dragons Fanstasy Role-playing  Game.

In order to understand alittle bit more about Netherworld's origins and high fantasy setting the following excerpt has been taken from The Black Fortress: Death Master fantasy module.

 Where are we?

A Brief History of the Continent of Arlanyn

Thousands of years ago, long before the army of the Black Emperor Perdivius Xal spread across the lands corrupting everything in its path like a plague, before Old Dolanthus was laid to waste by Dol the Undying, and even before the human king Rath led his people out of slavery to the Serpent Lords and smote his best friend Sesser'raath down upon the mountains of Belnack Ridge, our world was covered in the mists of antiquity.

Like other worlds through out the Prime, Netherworld was forged by the hands of the Great Creator from beyond the Void, who being pleased at what he had wrought decided in HIs wisdom to create lesser beings to inhabit this world and greater beings to watch over them. To insure his creations would understand their place in the cosmic scheme of things the Creator shrouded our world in deep dark mists and isolated it from the direct influnce of the gods, both our own and those from other worlds.  Eons ago, they had waged war with one another in order to decide who would claim dominion over the new races that had been created and these wars went on for millenium untill even the lesser creatures upon the surface had been brought into the conflict. The Creator of All Things upon high, in his anger at the squabbling of his children, finaly decreed that just as no mortal would ever again gaze upon the beauties of the heavens, so too would no god ever again set foot upon the surface of Netherworld. Then with his great power did he form deeper and darker mists in order to isolate the many races of mortals from one another and protect them once again from the direct influence of the gods.

Or so he thought...

The Black Fortress...

For well over a thousand years this impenetrable and mysterious stronghold, set deep in the heart of the Negative Energy Plane, has remained a silent observer to the events transpiring upon the surface of Netherworld: a fortress rumored to house the deepest and darkest secrets of arcane necromancy until the end of time. Unknown to even the most experienced of magic users, The Black Fortress is also the last known location of The Black Skull Staff, an artifact of arcane sorcery believed to be strong enough to destroy the deadliest threat to Netherworld's continued existence, the Greater Demon Holofax. Equally as dangerous is the staff's last known owner, an enigmatic wizard known only as the Death Master.

Intended for a party of 4-6 brave adventurers of 8th-10th level Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 Edition characters, The Black Fortress: Death Master is the first module set in the Netherworld Campaign Setting and introduces players to a brand new world of races, monsters, classes, feats, spells, and magic items unique to that realm.

Module Highlights Include:

  • Full Color Cover Art by Wayne Reynolds, one of the industry's premiere artists.
  • 90% all inclusive module is ready to play, meaning most of the monsters, characters, spells, feats, and items are included in the Appendix so you don't have to stop the game to look up things.
  • 4 original pre-generated characters ready to combat the undead threat and tackle The Fortress.
  • A horde of original monsters like the Abominations, the Kthuloi, the Cobalt Behemoth, and the Dark Harvester, to test your player's mettle.
  • All new creature templates like the Unliving and the Half Undead.
  • New feats and spells like Vampirc Rage, Mist Form Mastery, and Spine Demon.
