2006/07 Season News

Welcome to our new cheer year. We can't wait for the season to start and looking ahead already it's going to go with a bang. Just a months training before the first comp!! Keep checking back here for news reports on any cheer events. Details of upcoming events can be found in the box below.

PS All old reports can now be found via the Team History page.

A big "hi" to the Scorpion Cheer Team and an even bigger welcome to the new Fleetwood branch of the Scorpions. It's finally time for the Scorpions to branch out due to such a high demand in the local area and this means we have opened a new training session in Fleetwood and the training times of all squads has been re-arranged to accommodate the new requirements (see the Training Schedule page for updated details). With a whole new addition to the family, the new Season really will be something different.

Well we've had an interesting time this season. Last year we had a number of leavers. We also had a number of returners as they realised Scorpion Cheerleading was in their blood and they just couldn't get enough!! The Blackpool competition (Nov 06) is plagued with issues every year for the Senior team and this year was no exception. We had a flyer go really sick (again) moments before the team was due on the floor and once again knocked the team side ways. It was a real shame after such a great performance at FC Jungle Fever. The PeeWee and Junior teams, however, fared much better and have continued to do so, pulling in a number of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place positions over the last 9 months. Way to go team. Your coaches have made great progress with you guys. And they couldn't have done it without every one of you.

At the end of 2006 came a new Senior Cheer routine ready for a new year (thanks Pete) but with so many fliers out of action, it was difficult to pull anything, let alone something good enough for competition together. However, that's just what Ellie managed to do with the Senior team....entering the FC Midlands comp, but unfortunately it ended with the most disappointing results of the team history. The team decided to try again for UKCA and all practices were going to plan UNTIL two weeks before the competition. Two cheerleaders had to leave due to serious injury/illness, one couldn't compete after being particularly poorly and another decided it was also her time to leave us. A small team of 12 cheerleaders down to 8 and with no way of rearranging for a good enough performance meant for the first time ever, the team had to pull out. After being national champs three years in a row, this was a truly difficult decision for the team. More of the older team members decided to leave and so the only way to put this behind them was to start again and give the final comp of the Season one last go. IDTA Blackpool, May 2007 was the comeback.

And after one last run, the last of the original squad members, Jenny, Stacy and Amy decided it was time to head off for new ventures in life. They did, however, after much determination and dedication leave on a high. The Seniors managed to pull in 1st for Senior Cheer and 1st for Senior Individuals (Stacy). So all went the best way it could.

So long to the old team members. We hope you'll visit back often. And best of luck for next season everyone. It's all to play for!

PS If anyone has any photos from this year's cheer season which they would like adding to the site, please send them into scorpioncheerteam@yahoo.co.uk and we will add them, where appropriate to the site.
